Chapter 423: Checking Wu Ping's talent!
Wu Ping was stunned to see Noah. Until the moment Xin Yan walked towards him, she hadn't even sensed that there was someone else in the room. She was even more bewildered upon seeing his appearance.
Just like with Xin Yan, she found herself lost in his face. However, while Xin Yan made her feel protected under the warm sun, Noah gave her the impression of an enormous mountain—unwavering, strong, and reliable. Just looking at Noah, she felt he was someone you could rely on. Yet, she also sensed that this feeling was directed solely at Xin Yan. 'So this is madam's husband?
Then I should call him master, right?'
"Where did you leave all of a sudden before?" Ruo'er asked curiously as she walked towards Xin Yan, not forgetting to cast a glance at Wuhan.
'What did I do to you?! Why can't you let this topic go!!!' Wuhan snapped the spider leg beside him in annoyance and glanced at Xin Yan, also curious about what she had said earlier.
Xin Yan turned her head towards the young woman and patted her head while asking, "Do you know what happens when a strong cultivator gets angry or dies?"
Seeing the dark-skinned girl shaking her head, Xin Yan started explaining about the resonance between cultivators and the world. As she explained, a look of realization dawned on Wuhan, who immediately took out a talisman and began transferring qi through it.
"So when someone strong loses their temper, the world gets affected in some way or another? And if they die, the world is nourished by their bodies and qi?" Ruo'er gasped in shock after realizing the truth of the matter.
Wu Ping, who was hearing everything for the first time, could not even understand most of it. She started to get overwhelmed by all the information she received in one day.
"Does that have to do with why you left?" Ruo'er asked, connecting the dots by herself. Xin Yan glanced at Wuhan and replied, "The beasts in the forest around the sect were riled up and they left the forest to destroy the nearby towns. I was around that area and…"
As Xin Yan explained everything that had happened outside the settlement, Ruo'er's face became more and more aghast. She looked at Wu Ping with sympathy and worry.
Wu Ping smiled wryly, seeing the look on her face. It felt odd to see that the three men beside Ruo'er did not have much of a reaction to the story. It wasn't like she wanted people to pity or sympathize with her, but she had not expected such a reaction from someone. Explore more stories with empire
Noah glanced at Wu Ping and her child, activating his dragon eyes. Using them, he could see through all the mysteries of her body in a single glance.
"I think you did not simply just take her in because you pitied her. I am sure you could have shifted her to a safer town or somewhere else." It was Ming Ye who asked curiously. Ruo'er glared at her grandfather, hearing his merciless words. She did not like how he thought that Xin Yan had another agenda and even asked about it in front of Wu Ping.
Wu Ping was also surprised by the question. Although she had an idea that Xin Yan did not take her as a maid just because of her plight, she was also curious about her reason.
"Indeed," Xin Yan nodded without any hesitation. She did not care about hiding anything from Wu Ping. If Wu Ping was serious about serving her, Xin Yan did not mind being clear about everything to the woman, but that also did not mean she trusted her.
"While the beasts were chasing her, she ran desperately for her life." Xin Yan glanced at Wuhan, explaining, "She kept running using all of her willpower, and more than that, while being a mortal, she was running like a cultivator who just started his journey."
Ruo'er was shocked by Xin Yan's reply and reasoning.
"So you think she has a talent for cultivation?" Wuhan spoke up to ask, engrossed in the conversation before he realized what he had just done. He then looked at Xin Yan warily.
But to his surprise, Xin Yan was focused on Noah, who was walking closer to Wu Ping and narrowing her eyes. Without even realizing it, she replied to his question, "Yeah, I was thinking of testing her to see if she had a talent for cultivation."
Wu Ping blushed slightly, seeing Noah standing before her. His eyes were already back to normal before she could even realize he had done anything.
"Can you raise one of your hands?" Noah asked softly, and Wu Ping looked down at her son.
Seeing her awkward position, Noah smiled and used his qi to help hold her son in the air.
At first, she was alarmed, but seeing him sound asleep in a comfortable position, she let him be and raised her hand, thinking Noah would hold it.
*Drip*
Wuhan and Ming Ye almost ran away, seeing the darkness brewing in Xin Yan's eyes. Ruo'er, clueless about everything, silently looked at Noah, wondering what he was doing.
Instead of taking her hand, Noah took out a fate-revealing orb from his storage ring. This was the same orb that sects used to test the talents of young cultivators.
Noah had gotten his orb from the Soaring Heaven Sect. After destroying it, he looked through their storage and took some things he found interesting to play with.
*Woosh!*
Wu Ping was caught off-guard, seeing a bright light coming from the orb. She thought something bad was going to happen and tried to move her hand away.
"Calm down, it won't do any harm to you." Just as she tried to do that, she found a warm hand holding her hand in place, followed by a calm and soothing voice.
She gulped down her saliva in nervousness and nodded. Noah nodded and took his hand back. Soon the white color of the orb changed and it started shining in red light. Sighs of dejection echoed in the room.
