Chapter 405: Wuhan's Plan And Noah's Dilemma
"Your majesty, joining the sects gives them the security of advancing without taking the risk of joining a battlefield and risking their lives." Shi Tzu came forward and answered. While speaking about the major sects, one could hear a subtle hint of contempt in his voice.
'Those sects are the only things standing in his majesty's way to becoming a great emperor,' Shi Tzu sighed in his mind, thinking Wuhan had been too soft with these sects.
Wuhan scoffed, hearing Shi Tzu's reply. "No risks? The sects give them the illusion of safety. They preach that they won't let outsiders bully their own people. What about those who are inside the sect?"
"Everyone is looking to join the sects so that they can get stronger under their protection."
"They poach all the talents because these young talents only seek easy rewards."
One by one, the officials started to speak in favor of what Wuhan said. Read latest stories on empire
"If we want to make our empire prosper, we need talents in our ranks as well. We need to nurture them ourselves, so they are not just loyal to these sects." Wuhan waved his hand and stopped everyone from speaking anymore before declaring.
"Your majesty, are you saying that you want to take away the disciples from the major clans?" the same official who questioned Wuhan before asked in shock and disbelief.
"No, what I am saying is that we should find raw talents before any sect can get to them."
"Are we going to hold a selection process for that?" Shi Tzu asked to clear his confusion.
"Not yet." Wuhan shook his head in dismissal. "We have to give the people a reason why they should come to us. We will be organizing a friendly contest instead."
The confusion in Shi Tzu's eyes cleared all of a sudden when he realized what was happening. He recalled the conversation they had yesterday and thought in shock, 'To think his majesty came up with such a plan in one night.'
"A contest?" another official came forward in confusion.
"We will let the talents from all across the empire fight against the talented recruits of our Royal Palace." Wuhan got up from his throne. His words, full of conviction and authority, echoed in the silent hall.
"We will announce to the world that the royal family is not any less than any of these sects. No matter how much guidance they have received from the sects, there is one thing that can only be learned in life and death battles."
"That is the will and tenacity of our soldiers. When your life's on the line, a fire to survive and win starts burning in your heart and this fire cannot be extinguished by the likes of anyone." Wuhan's words sent turmoil into the hearts of the people. The sound of their beating hearts could be heard by everyone.
"Your Majesty, even though you say that there are a lot of things to decide. How will this contest proceed? What will be the criteria to participate? What will be the reward for the winner?" Shi Tzu came forward and asked with a concerned look on his face. He did not want Wuhan to rush into anything blindly.
"The contest will be held after three months. We will take a month to prepare for it. And I don't want any knowledge about this being leaked to anyone." Wuhan looked at the people standing before him with a sharp look in his eyes.
"Anyone who disobeys this order will be stripped of their position."
"Please be reassured, Your Majesty, we won't do anything like that." The officials started to sweat and bowed to Wuhan immediately.
"The dates and the specifics of this event will be conveyed through our prime minister."
After finishing up the notice of the event, Wuhan started to discuss the small matters related to the queries
they had.
While they conversed, a pair of predatory golden eyes glowed in the dark in the corner of the room before disappearing.

After the meeting came to an end, everyone left the throne room slowly until Wuhan was left alone in the room.
Wuhan turned his face to the side and saw Noah walking out of the shadow of one of the pillars.
Walking forward, he turned towards the exit of the room and asked, "So that's your plan?"
"You don't think this is a good idea?" Wuhan raised his eyebrows, hearing the tone in Noah's voice.
"Not that." Noah shook his head before turning to look at Wuhan. "You are trying to make a statement here, and if you fail to live up to it, that would make things turn on you."
"I know that, and you know what we are up against. To do that, I need to nurture talented youngsters. It does not matter how small their number is; I just need them to be strong enough to at least reach Soul Formation in the upcoming years."
Hearing Wuhan's words, a smile appeared on Noah's face. "Have you thought of the parameters for the contest then?"
"Not yet. Right now, I just want to return to the sect and meet my disciples." Wuhan shook his head before a warm smile appeared on his face.
The smile on Noah's face faltered when he heard Wuhan, but he did not let it show. "Then let's go back first thing in the morning tomorrow."
Wuhan nodded as Noah turned into wisps of smoke and disappeared from the room. When he reappeared, he was standing on the roof of one of the tallest buildings in the area.
He sat on the roof and looked over the horizon. The beautiful scene of the whole city under the golden glow of the sun seemed calm.
Maybe he wanted the calmness of the scene to resonate with his heart, calming him down, but it was no good. He could not stop himself from thinking about what would happen after Wuhan entered that dungeon under his house.
"Ugh…" Noah's thoughts were broken by a groaning sound that came from behind him.
