Genshin Impact: Transmigrated as Furina's Second Personality

Chapter 38: Meeting of the Two Archons

In Neuvillette's amazement at Furina's plan and his heartfelt wish for its success, he was unaware that, knowing the situation in Sumeru would not resolve quickly, Felina had already set her sights on another neighboring nation: Liyue.

At this moment, Felina was in her office, deep in thought.

Her objective was to intensify the rift between the Rainforest and the Desert without sparking a civil war in Sumeru. By fostering mutual resentment between the two regions, she aimed to peacefully incorporate the desert into Fontaine's territory.

These strategies, while far from honorable, involved treating the people of the Rainforest and Desert as pieces on her chessboard. In essence, she was calculating against an entire nation.

Yet Felina carried no guilt. She had never considered herself a "good person." She was simply someone willing to do whatever it took to achieve her goals and secure the outcome she envisioned.

As always, matters between nations boiled down to interests.

A ruler driven by sentimentality and naivety would bring misfortune upon their people.

In this grand scheme:

Sumeru would resolve the Irminsul crisis, gain mechanical beings of godly might, and rid itself of the burden that was the desert. The desert populace, once part of Fontaine, would receive divine protection, food, water, and education. Felina even intended to personally improve the environment there.

Meanwhile, Fontaine would expand its territory and strengthen Furina's divine influence.

This was a win-win-win scenario, and it made Furina a competent leader.

As for the desert folk, Felina believed there were undoubtedly wise individuals among them who might sense something amiss. After all, Fontaine had no reason to expend resources helping them unless there was something to gain.

Even so, it was irrelevant.

The desert's dire condition presented an undeniable opportunity. Even if the wiser desert folk realized Fontaine had ulterior motives, what choice did they have? Fontaine offered them a future, and sacrifices in exchange for that future could be seen as a fair transaction.

Moreover, with anti-Rainforest sentiment running high, even the minority who saw through the facade would be swept along by the majority's collective will, inevitably dragged into the conflict.

"Sumeru's stage is set. Now, we wait for the results."

The developments in Sumeru would take time to unfold. Meanwhile, Felina turned her attention to other matters.

She picked up reports from her desk and frowned.

"The Fontaine Science Institute has been tinkering for two months now."

"Currently, Fontaine has 3,752 Primordial rockets with a range of up to 300 kilometers."

"214 Primordial short-range missiles, capable of striking targets 300–1,000 kilometers away."

"And only 11 medium-range Primordial missiles, which can strike targets up to 8,000 kilometers away."

"As for the long-range Primordial missiles, which could reach any point on Teyvat... Not a single one has been produced."

Frustrated, Felina massaged her temples.

"No, this won't do. It's not enough. Fontaine's military strength is still far too weak."

She pondered solutions to bolster Fontaine's combat readiness. After much thought, she concluded that the nation's high-tier combat capabilities needed enhancement.

Compared to Fontaine, Snezhnaya boasted its 11 Fatui Harbingers, many of whom possessed godlike power.

The Fatui Harbingers, combined with the Cryo Archon herself, made Snezhnaya's high-end power overwhelming.

By contrast, Fontaine had only herself, Neuvillette, and Focalors—whose power was currently locked within the Oratrice and remained untested. That made a total of three at best.

It wasn't enough. It had to be more.

After careful consideration, Felina set her sights on Liyue.

Why Liyue?

Firstly, Felina had already pledged to Sumeru that she would use a Gnosis to create a godlike automaton to augment its defenses. However, Fontaine's Hydro Gnosis was currently bound to Focalors within the Oratrice and unavailable.

To continue the research on these large-scale mechanical weapons, Felina needed to look elsewhere for a Gnosis.

Since Sumeru's Dendro Gnosis was already off-limits, the Gnoses of the remaining nations became her targets.

Additionally, Felina considered recruiting Osial to bolster Fontaine's forces.

Osial, the Vortex God, was a formidable Hydro-aligned god who had been defeated by the Geo Archon Morax during the Archon War and sealed beneath the waters near Liyue's Guyun Stone Forest.

If Felina could bring Osial under Fontaine's control, the benefits would be immense.

However, being a god, Osial would undoubtedly have his pride. Winning his loyalty alone would be a monumental task. Even if Felina succeeded, there was the issue of Osial's lingering grudge against Morax. Once free, Osial would almost certainly retaliate against Liyue, sparking chaos.

Such a conflict would not remain personal. Any attack by Osial would escalate into a war between Fontaine and Liyue.

Furthermore, with Osial sealed within Liyue's borders, Morax would never agree to release him without a guarantee of Liyue's safety.

Thus, Felina faced a significant challenge: how to both subdue Osial and assure Morax of his good intentions, avoiding international strife.

Despite the hurdles, Felina already had a plan. It merely required a meeting with Morax in Liyue to set it in motion.

Another Reason to Visit Liyue

In addition to acquiring the Geo Gnosis and recruiting Osial, Felina had another pressing concern.

After granting rebirth to the lost girls as her Oceanid Servants, Felina had dispatched some to monitor the ocean's depths for anomalies, particularly fluctuations in Primordial Sea levels.

Yesterday, the Oceanid Servants reported signs of instability in the seabed, coupled with tectonic tremors emanating from Liyue's direction.

These geological disturbances threatened to accelerate the eruption of Primordial Sea waters.

Whether for the Geo Gnosis, Osial, or to address these tremors and delay the eruption, Felina's trip to Liyue was now non-negotiable.

One Day Later

This was Liyue Harbor, the southernmost city of Liyue.

At this time, the Geo Archon, veiled in mortal form, walked among the common folk.

Though gods often bore heavy burdens, none more so than Morax. His deep affection for Liyue drove him to tirelessly plan for the nation's future.

Usually, when he sought respite, Morax enjoyed sipping tea and listening to storytellers among the bustling streets of his city.

Today, however, was different.

"In KFC~~~ She savors cola with chicken wings, one bite at a time, devouring eagerly~ Others wonder at her passion, until they learn it's Crazy Thursday~~"

An unfamiliar melody echoed through the streets of Liyue Harbor.

Hearing it, Morax stopped in his tracks, puzzled.

Following the sound, he spotted a storefront designed in Fontaine's style. Above the door hung a sign that read: "KFC (Kaifeng Cuisine)."

Standing before the Fontaine-styled establishment and hearing the peculiar abstract melody emanating from within, the Geo Archon furrowed his brows.

By nature, he was a traditionalist. To him, adapting Liyue opera to such abstract lyrics felt like a desecration of culture, a descent into chaos and impropriety.

He intended to leave, but his gaze fell upon the sign by the entrance: "Kaifeng Cuisine—Authentic Preparation, Personally Endorsed and Sung by the Fontaine Hydro Archon Furina."

Given his recent involvement in the Osial incident, he was already intrigued by Fontaine's Hydro Archon. Driven by a sense of obligation as a fellow god to explore new things, the Geo Archon stepped inside.

Unlike the more subdued aesthetics of Liyue's establishments, the restaurant's interior was brightly lit and immaculately clean, giving an impression of modern sophistication. It felt refreshingly different and inviting.

He had just seated himself when a server approached, asking for his order.

As everyone knew, Teyvat's universal currency, Mora, was crafted from Geo energy, a creation of the Geo Archon himself. In fact, legends claimed that each Mora contained a fragment of his essence. For this reason, Morax was also revered as the God of Wealth and Commerce.

Possessing the ability to conjure Mora at will, money was of no concern to him. Without even glancing at the menu, he said calmly, "One of everything on the menu, except for seafood."

In no time, the table was laden with an array of dishes: fried chicken wings, Orleans roast chicken, burgers, wraps, fries, ice cream, and Fontaine's signature soda.

Before he could begin his meal, a young woman with blue and white hair suddenly appeared before him.

"You seem to have ordered quite a bit," she remarked with a polite smile. "I happen to be hungry myself. Would you mind if I joined you?"

The Geo Archon looked up at her. Instantly, he discerned her identity from the aura she exuded.

Choosing not to expose her, he smiled faintly. "Good food is always better when shared. It would be my honor if you joined me, Miss."

In the bustling restaurant, two gods now sat across from one another. Though both wore amiable smiles, an unspoken pressure radiated from their presence.

No one else noticed them.

The moment Felina sat down, both she and the Geo Archon instinctively used their powers to isolate their corner of the world. Within this invisible boundary, their words would go unheard, their presence unfelt by others.

"Should I address you as Morax or Zhongli, then?" Felina asked with a faint smile.

Her words made the Geo Archon's brow rise slightly.

Zhongli was the name he often used during his mortal wanderings, yet this young Hydro Archon had revealed it without hesitation.

"It seems Fontaine's intelligence network is quite thorough," he remarked. "Zhongli is indeed the name I use while among mortals. Since we meet here, in a mortal realm, Zhongli will suffice."

"And how should I address you?" he inquired, his gaze steady.

"Furina will do."

"In that case, Miss Furina, I personally welcome you to Liyue." Zhongli's tone was courteous but formal. "May I ask the reason for your visit?"

"I dislike beating around the bush, so I'll be direct," Felina replied.

She proceeded to outline her reasons for coming to Liyue.

A few minutes later.

"I see. I now understand your intentions," Zhongli said.

Having listened to Furina's plans, his expression remained impassive.

Setting down the chicken drumstick he had been eating, he looked at her calmly.

"Miss Furina, you must be aware that Liyue is the Nation of Commerce, a land defined by Contracts. Here, trade is constant, and every interaction carries value.

"Knowing this, I must ask: if what you seek is part of a transaction, what can Liyue or I gain in return?"

Felina had anticipated this question.

Her gaze shifted to a tofu stand outside the restaurant.

There, a man in his seventies was chatting with regular customers.

"Age has caught up to me," he said, his voice tinged with weariness. "But I'm proud of my boy—he's learned my craft well. Starting tomorrow, I'll hand over the stall to him and finally enjoy a well-deserved rest."

The regulars congratulated him, praising his son's skill and wishing him a peaceful retirement.

Inside the restaurant, both Felina and Zhongli withdrew their gazes simultaneously.

"It seems your people have already answered your question, Mr. Zhongli," Felina remarked.

Though she was speaking to a ruler who had lived for over six millennia, her demeanor was unwavering and composed.

"Morax, the Geo Archon. For 3,700 years, you have upheld contracts with the people of Liyue, guiding this nation through countless storms.

"You meticulously plan each year's development during the Rite of Descension, ensuring the prosperity of your land.

"To the people of Liyue, you are their most revered Godfather figure. And to you, Liyue is the child you have raised with care and devotion.

"Yet as that vendor just said, fathers grow old, and children eventually grow up, ready to shoulder the burdens of their family.

"You are a god, yes, but even gods cannot protect forever. One day, you will step back, and Liyue, like a grown child, will seek independence.

"Surely, you understand this, do you not?"

When Felina finished, Morax fell silent.
