Chapter 89: Chapter 89
After knocking on the door, there was only silence.
However, Jiang Ning ignored the "Closed for Renovation" sign hanging on the door and continued knocking persistently.
"Master Diluc, I know you're in there. Please open the door," Jiang Ning called out.
Footsteps seemed to echo from inside, and Jiang Ning stopped knocking. Shortly after, the door opened.
It was Diluc who opened it.
"Come in," he said, stepping aside to let Jiang Ning enter.
"Your decision to close down has really caused quite an uproar among people," Jiang Ning remarked.
Diluc merely grunted, saying nothing in response.
"Hello there! Acting Grand Master Jean mentioned you were here, so I came to check on you," Jiang Ning said, noticing Lumine and Venti peering down suspiciously from upstairs.
"Oh, it's Jiang Ning! You scared me to death. I thought the Knights of Favonius had caught up with us," Paimon flew down, patting her chest in relief.
"You guys are really bold, aren't you? Stealing the Holy Lyre der Himmel... And Venti, stealing your own possession - feeling accomplished about that?" Jiang Ning teased.
"Who said that? I don't feel accomplished at all! I clearly stated my identity, but the nun wouldn't believe me," Venti protested.
Jiang Ning replied, "Walking up and saying that is about as convincing as me grabbing someone on the street and saying 'I'm Qin Shi Huang, send me 50...'"
"Who's Qin Shi Huang?" Paimon asked curiously.
"An emperor from another world... Anyway, I'm just glad to see you're all safe."
"Safe? How are we safe? First, we were tricked by the Fatui, then chased by the Knights of Favonius. We finally managed to get the Holy Lyre back from the Fatui, and now we're wanted! They say someone informed on us. If I find out who did it, I won't let them get away with it!" Paimon puffed up like a blowfish in anger.
"Mm-hmm, definitely can't let them get away with it," Jiang Ning said with a smile.
As for whether this might trace back to him...
Don't be ridiculous, what did it have to do with him? He was just a kind passerby who helped Barbara analyze the situation. Barbara was the one who informed, what did it have to do with Jiang Ning?
"Right, Lumine? Lumine?"
Paimon then realized Lumine was staring at Jiang Ning's face in a daze, practically drooling.
"Lumine! Mind your image!" Paimon scolded.
Lumine snapped out of her trance, wiped her (actually dry) mouth corner, coughed, and said seriously:
"So, this means we're heading for the final battle? Like a final boss in a game?"
Not bad - though that topic change was quite abrupt... and rather shameless.
Jiang Ning said, "Yes, Acting Grand Master Jean has already sent me a battle invitation. I'll be joining you all when the time comes."
"Hehe, having Jiang Ning with us feels really reassuring," Paimon said with a smile.
"Paimon, you never say such nice things when you're with me," Lumine said helplessly.
Paimon flew close to Lumine's ear and whispered, "Well, isn't Jiang Ning supposed to be some big shot from Liyue? So it's never wrong to build good relationships early! We'll be heading to Liyue eventually!"
Lumine looked at Paimon in surprise, wondering when her guide had become so shrewd.
Still, Lumine agreed. After all, who wouldn't want to get closer to such a handsome young man?
From the moment she first saw Jiang Ning, Lumine had already planned to settle in Liyue after finding her brother, proudly telling him:
"Brother, look at the brother-in-law I found for you."
As for Jiang Ning's thoughts... It's fine, a good man doesn't fear a persistent woman. She'll win him over!
"I'm glad to see you're all doing well. I'll head out now. Call me if you need anything," Jiang Ning said. He had come to watch the show, and now that there wasn't much else to see, he decided to return to his senior sister's embrace.
"Yes, someone will notify you when it's time to move out," Diluc said.
"Also, Venti, put that wine down. I haven't agreed to sell you any alcohol. This counts as theft. Has the great Anemo Archon really fallen so low as to become a wine-stealing bard?"
"And we're about to face the final battle. I hope you can keep a clear head."
Hearing this, Venti reluctantly put the wine back.
"A-Alright."
Diluc continued: "There will be victory wine after everything is settled. My treat."
Venti's face lit up with joy: "Hooray! Long live Master Diluc!"
Diluc sighed. With such a deity watching over Mondstadt... the future truly seemed worrisome.
He felt that since meeting Venti, hadn't he sighed more times than in his previous twenty-some years combined?
...
Meanwhile, at the Goth Hotel.
Shenhe lay on the couch with a soft pillow under her abdomen, as if this position might make her waist more comfortable.
Beside her, Huixin was massaging her waist.
"Huixin, I feel like the method you taught me isn't really working," Shenhe said with confusion.
Huixin sighed and said, "I know, but who could have known Jiang Ning would be so... extraordinary?"
This wasn't human-like at all.
"So what should we do now?" Shenhe asked.
Huixin didn't know what to do either. Her secret technique wasn't working, and she only had experience with her own husband.
"I think Jiang Ning isn't the type to be unfaithful," Huixin said.
"You should trust in the relationship you've built over this long time. Besides, you're his senior sister, naturally closer..."
"Well... alright," Shenhe said.
Though she said this, Shenhe still decided to implement her plan to thoroughly exhaust her junior brother after resting.
After all, if little junior brother enjoyed it, and she enjoyed it too.
Overall, everyone was happy.
Moreover, Shenhe had begun to love that feeling of being filled, that hot sensation, that moment of losing consciousness.
Especially being able to hold little junior brother in her arms at that moment.
"I'm back... Senior Sister, are you alright?" Jiang Ning asked with concern upon seeing Huixin and Shenhe.
"You still dare to ask, showing no consideration for Shenhe at all," Huixin scolded.
Jiang Ning felt somewhat embarrassed.
"It's really fine," Shenhe tried to defend Jiang Ning.
"Fine, I won't meddle in you young couple's affairs," Huixin said with an eye roll, clearly annoyed.
After Huixin left, Shenhe sat up and looked at Jiang Ning:
"Little junior brother, I think after some rest, I can continue..."
Jiang Ning was startled: "No, Senior Sister, you want to continue? Are you trying to kill yourself... Forget it, rest for a while. We probably have important matters to attend to in the next couple of days."
Jiang Ning crossed his arms and walked around Shenhe.
"I have to say, Senior Sister, you're really both unskilled and eager to play."
Though Jiang Ning appeared calm on the surface, he was absolutely delighted inside. After all this time, he finally had the position to say such words to his senior sister. It felt incredibly satisfying.
"Oh..." Though somewhat disappointed, Shenhe still followed Jiang Ning's words.
...
Three days passed in a flash.
They finally collected enough of Dvalin's tears, and with the combined efforts of Lumine and Jiang Ning, they restored the Holy Lyre to its original luster. Venti even played a tune for everyone first.
This convinced both Jean and Diluc that this was indeed their Anemo Archon, Barbatos.
Though both felt it somewhat unreal.
The age-old question remained - what kind of deity was a drunkard?
"Everyone should rest well tonight. Tomorrow morning, we'll head to Starsnatch Cliff to summon Dvalin," Jean said.
"Yes, I need to prepare some talismans just in case," Jiang Ning nodded.
After all, who knew what the Abyss had done to Dvalin now.
Lumine and Paimon also went back early to prepare.
As Venti was leaving, Diluc said:
"Go straight to rest when you get back, no drinking. Once this is over, there'll be plenty of good wine waiting for you."
Venti's eyes lit up: "Then for the sake of good wine, I, Teyvat's finest bard, must give it my all!"
Then he left happily.
Jean covered her face, feeling helpless.
Shouldn't he have said something about helping his servant escape from suffering at a time like this?
Outside Angel's Share, Signora and two Fatui members stood in a hidden spot, watching Venti leave.
One of the Fatui asked:
"My lady, shouldn't we take this chance to steal the Gnosis?"
It was a rare moment when he was alone.
Signora said, "Hmph, wait until tomorrow. After they deal with Stormterror, their strength will surely be greatly depleted. The success rate will be higher then."
"Her Majesty's great endeavor cannot afford any mistakes. It's better to be cautious."
"My lady is wise," the Fatui quickly flattered.
"Besides, do you really think no one is watching us right now?" Signora implied.
"My lady means we're being followed? Since when?!" The subordinate was shocked.
Signora said, "Hmph, just two little mice. It doesn't matter. We just can't let things get too messy, or it would alert other nations. That would be troublesome."
"Let's go. That little wine-stealing mouse will be in our grasp sooner or later."
"Yes, my lady."
Her beautiful eyes swept across the dark corner, and Signora left haughtily.
After the Fatui left, two figures emerged from the shadows.
"As expected of a Harbinger, not an easy one to deal with," Kaeya said helplessly.
"You can come out too, Rosaria. When did you return?"
From the other side, a tall figure in nun's attire emerged, with pale skin and wine-red short hair.
Though... a nun in fishnet stockings seemed somewhat improper.
"Hmph, I've been back for a while. What are these Fatui planning now?" Rosaria said.
Kaeya looked up at the sky: "Who knows... Just keep watching and report to Jean."
Rosaria frowned and disappeared back into the shadows.
