Genshin Impact: My Villain System Isn't Working Properly

Chapter 117: Chapter 117

Jiang Ning watched Shenhe from afar.

She had changed from her adepti training clothes and ethereal Daoist robes into common Liyue attire that carried a more mundane air.

Though the clothes were ordinary, they couldn't hide her ethereal grace reminiscent of a snow lotus atop a mountain.

She skillfully took customers' orders and helped Xiangling in the kitchen.

Although Shenhe had only started working recently, she was already coordinating well with Xiangling.

However, at Wanmin Restaurant's takeout window, two men were lingering, refusing to leave. As they watched Shenhe, one suddenly said:

"You know what I want to say."

"Yeah, I understand..."

While Shenhe was chopping vegetables, Chef Mao noticed these two men and frowned:

"Why are these two here again?"

Some regular customers curiously asked, "Who are they?"

"Ever since Shenhe started working here, these guys come morning and evening, order the cheapest items, and occupy the window for hours just to stare at her," Chef Mao explained.

"Why not chase them away?"

"They're just standing there without causing trouble. Even the Millelith can't do anything about it," Chef Mao said helplessly.

"What does Shenhe think about this?"

The regulars looked sympathetically at the two men. Anyone from Liyue Harbor would know Shenhe's identity - Cloud Retainer's disciple and Ganyu's fellow adeptus disciple. There were even rumors about her brother, known as the "White-haired Demon" among treasure hoarders.

"Speaking of Shenhe, I don't think we should trouble the young lady with this," Chef Mao hesitated.

"Why not let Shenhe handle it herself?" a regular customer suggested.

"I think that's a good idea, Dad," Xiangling agreed.

Jiang Ning appeared almost ghost-like: "I think that's a good idea too..."

He knew Shenhe too well - most likely, these two would end up having their heads pressed to the ground three times before being carried away. Whether they'd end up at the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor or Bubu Pharmacy was anyone's guess.

"Jiang Ning, you're here!" Xiangling's face lit up with joy.

"Yes, I just happened to see... Sister indeed attracts attention," Jiang Ning smiled.

Xiangling asked puzzled: "You're not angry?"

"Why would I be angry? If I got upset every time someone found my sister beautiful or looked at her, I'd die from anger... However," his smile remained but his words turned ominous, "if they look at her lecherously, they can say goodbye to their eyeballs. And if they make any inappropriate comments, there's still plenty of space at Jueyun Karst."

The regular customers shuddered. This must be the infamous White-haired Demon, Yuehai Pavilion's mascot, Lady Ganyu's junior disciple, the well-connected young man.

"Well then, I'll let Shenhe handle this," Chef Mao nodded and spoke to Shenhe, who put down her knife and approached the takeout window.

Nobody heard what she said, but frost began forming around the window, and the atmosphere turned notably chilly.

The two men were so frightened they fled without even taking their ordered food.

"...Little brother?" Upon returning inside, Shenhe noticed Jiang Ning with surprise and delight.

"Sister, you look very responsible at work. I'm relieved," Jiang Ning said with a smile.

"Mm, it's fine..." Shenhe responded.

"Sister, what did you say to them? Why were they so scared?" Everyone around perked up their ears, curious.

"I just kept repeating, asking if they needed to order anything else," Shenhe replied.

Everyone wondered why simply asking about orders would cause the window to frost over.

"What if those two had kept persisting?" a bold regular customer asked.

"Then I would have shown them my fists and reasoned with them in another way," Shenhe said seriously.

Little brother had taught her that might makes right...

Xiangling quickly interjected: "That's- that's not right, how is that reasoning?"

Jiang Ning retorted: "You have no right to talk - you're the one who always says 'if talking doesn't work, beat them up' during fights."

Xiangling could only laugh sheepishly.

Jiang Ning gave Shenhe an approving look: "As expected of someone trained by the same master, that's exactly the right approach..."

The surrounding customers trembled, not daring to listen further.

By Rex Lapis above, why weren't these adepti disciples as steady as their Lord?

If Jiang Ning knew what they were thinking, he would have laughed. Did they know why Liyue had minting rights? Why among the Seven, only their lord's statue was seated?

Rex Lapis might be generous and steady, but Morax was a fierce warrior - just ask the resentful spirits and remnants of fallen gods scattered across Liyue, or the gods still trapped beneath Jueyun Karst.

After enjoying a delicious meal at Wanmin Restaurant and checking on his sister's situation, Jiang Ning left satisfied and reassured.

In the afternoon, he went to see his other sister - Ganyu.

Previously, Ganyu would work endlessly, but under Jiang Ning's guidance, she finally adopted a normal work schedule. Now at Yuehai Pavilion, she even took afternoon naps, unlike her previous irregular breaks.

When Jiang Ning quietly entered Ganyu's office, she was sleeping soundly on the office couch.

He carefully approached and let her rest her head on his lap.

When Ganyu started to furrow her brows, he gently stroked her horns. Soon, her expression became peaceful as she fell into a deeper sleep.

When Ganyu finally awoke, she looked at Jiang Ning with slight confusion.

"...Little brother?" Ganyu mumbled, still somewhat dazed.

"Yes, sister. Did you sleep well?"

"Very well... Why are you here?" Ganyu yawned and stretched, showing her graceful figure.

Jiang Ning replied: "Just missed you and wanted to check on you."

Ganyu felt pleased and happily got up to pour tea for him.

"Sister, I want something else," Jiang Ning said with a mischievous smile, looking at the tea cup.

Ganyu froze for a moment before understanding. Her face turned red with embarrassment. She glared at him nervously, looked around, then whispered in his ear:

"We'll talk about that when we get home."

Though this was Ganyu's private office and her cautious behavior seemed somewhat unnecessary, Jiang Ning was delighted and nodded in agreement.

Watching Jiang Ning who was happy like a child, Ganyu fanned her cheeks with both hands to cool herself down.

"By the way, Sister, what you said before about sleeping better when someone you trust touches your horns - it's really true," Jiang Ning remarked.

Ganyu nodded slightly: "Yes. For example, with you and Master, I won't react when you come close... but if it's others, I'll wake up immediately, regardless of whether I just fell asleep."

This was probably one of the adeptibeast's talents.

"No wonder..." Jiang Ning mumbled.

It was said that when Ganyu felt sleepy, she could fall asleep anywhere within Liyue's borders, but in all these years, nothing bad had ever happened to her.

So she had such a convenient talent?

"Little brother, I have some documents that need your..."

Before Ganyu could finish, Jiang Ning interrupted: "Stop right there, Sister. I'm on vacation, don't try to make me work."

Ganyu became embarrassed: "Sorry, I forgot..."

So Ganyu continued with her work while Jiang Ning leisurely sipped hot tea on the side.

It felt amazing to be on vacation while watching others work.

During office hours, Ganyu's office was busy with people coming and going, constantly handling documents and receiving instructions.

Jiang Ning took advantage of this time to collect quite a bounty.

Whenever they saw him, the sisters at Yuehai Pavilion would give him delicious snacks.

In the past, he would have enjoyed these alone.

But times had changed - now Ganyu could eat these delicacies too. So while Ganyu worked, Jiang Ning fed her snacks.

His fingertips gently brushed against Ganyu's cherry lips, earning him a reproachful look.

"How am I supposed to work like this?" Ganyu complained.

"Like what?" Jiang Ning played dumb.

Ganyu gave him a side-eye before saying, "Never mind. If you have nothing to do, go take a walk outside. Don't stay here."

Jiang Ning stroked his chin: "Earlier you asked me to come here, and now you're asking me to leave. Heh, women."

Ganyu glared at him irritably: "Don't act so old and stuffy at your young age. Just go."

"Fine..."

"Remember to come back for dinner."

"I know..."

...

Although he left Ganyu, Jiang Ning didn't follow his Master Zhongli's example of becoming a wanderer.

Instead, he was caught by Keqing and pressed into service.

Keqing didn't care whether you were on vacation or not. Once she caught you, she'd say, "How can you sleep at this age? What do you plan to do if you're not working hard?"

Then without further discussion, she dragged Jiang Ning to her office.

Along the way, for some reason, many people were sighing as if their stocks had crashed, while others had knowing smiles as if they'd made a fortune.

In Keqing's office, she got straight to the point:

"Last time you mentioned that gods are symbolic, responsible for protection and military deterrence, while leaving governance to humans with immortals supervising. Take a look at my plans and thoughts..."

Keqing presented a pile of documents to Jiang Ning, giving him a headache.

Really? This girl hasn't given up yet?

"Listen, Keqing, isn't there a possibility that this isn't our decision to make? Rex Lapis hasn't even approved it yet. Why are you so excited?" Jiang Ning said.

Keqing replied: "That's simple. You help me polish this, and at the upcoming Rite of Descension, I'll present it to Rex Lapis."

"Even if Rex Lapis doesn't agree, I'll keep revising and polishing until he does."

Jiang Ning thought to himself - wasn't it possible that his master was already thinking about retirement? Honestly, looking at Zhongli's current lifestyle, it wasn't much different from a retired elder's.

Drinking tea, listening to stories, watching opera, taking walks...

The only unfortunate thing was the lack of retirement pension, with all bills being sent to the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor.

"Well, let me take a look..." Jiang Ning felt that if he didn't review it, this girl might show up at his home.

As he read, Jiang Ning became absorbed in the content. Time passed quietly while Keqing used this opportunity to advance some of her other work.

After finishing his review, Jiang Ning exhaled and stretched his stiff shoulders before saying:

"Overall, there aren't many issues, but if Rex Lapis agrees, we'll need to consider new legal matters. How exactly will the supervision work? The new evaluation system must be strict - how to evaluate is crucial."

Though influenced by his guidance, Keqing had managed to create a primitive form of separation of powers, which was quite impressive.

Keqing nodded: "I understand. I'll discuss it with the other Qixing and seek advice from the Guizhong Ballista's master and Yanfei."

"Alright, if there's nothing else, I'll..."

Jiang Ning was nearly in tears. What was supposed to be a good vacation had been hijacked by Keqing.

"Wait! Are you free tonight? You've helped me so much, I'd like to properly thank you with dinner."

Keqing suddenly became shy as she asked.

Jiang Ning replied: "...I promised Sister I'd eat at home."

"Oh, I see..."

Disappointment was evident in Keqing's eyes.

Shortly after, Jiang Ning made up an excuse and hurriedly left.

Keqing bit her lip, then clenched her fists as if giving herself encouragement before returning to her work.

As Jiang Ning walked down the street, the system suddenly said:

[Host, I think that purple-haired cat girl is interested in you.]

"Are you kidding? What are you thinking? That's impossible!" Jiang Ning rolled his eyes in disbelief.

[Hehehe, she definitely likes you, I can guarantee it.]

"What do you know about Keqing? Back then, she was my only 5-star character when I pulled for her..."

Jiang Ning dismissed it contemptuously.

No one understands Cat Queen Keqing better than me.

However, Jiang Ning clearly hadn't raised enough friendship levels and was unaware of one thing.

When Keqing likes someone or has feelings for them, her way of showing it is...

Making that person work overtime with her, or constantly pushing them to improve.

To be honest, it was quite an abstract way of showing affection.
