Chapter 95: Chapter 95: Doctor Baizhu

As the saying goes, "Don't fear the King of Hell's smile, fear Baizhu's furrowed brow."

After receiving Bai Luo, the professional smile on Baizhu's face gradually faded. In the end, his brows furrowed deeply, and he sighed from time to time.

"Doctor Bai, is my lord going to be alright?"

Dozens of Fatui soldiers had surrounded Bubu Pharmacy so tightly that not even a drop of water could seep through, making the room much hotter than usual.

This group of Fatui soldiers, who had followed from Stone Gate, genuinely cared for Bai Luo.

And who could blame them? It's rare for a Harbinger to fight for them, ordinary foot soldiers, throw lavish banquets, and even get into brawls on their behalf.

Though they couldn't quite figure out why Bai Luo had treated them to almond tofu, he had left a good impression in their hearts.

"You all go outside first. Also, miss, please step away from the patient. You're pressing on him."

"..."

In this world, only two types of people could make the Fatui retreat: their commanders and doctors.

Katarina adjusted Bai Luo's bedding before following the group of Fatui soldiers outside, leaving the inner room.

The space immediately became much emptier, and even the air felt smoother. Baizhu's expression relaxed.

Bai Luo's condition was strange—very strange.

He had checked the sword wound; logically, such a severe injury should have caused significant internal damage.

But aside from some indigestion, Bai Luo seemed perfectly fine, surprisingly healthy.

"Have you encountered anyone unusual recently?"

As his Dendro-element Vision glowed, Baizhu tried channeling elemental power to heal him.

"I met someone at Wangshu Inn who called himself an immortal. Short guy, pretty bad temper," Bai Luo replied after thinking for a moment, testing the waters.

"..."

Baizhu knew a thing or two about immortals. Short guy... if he guessed correctly, that must be the guardian yaksha.

Could Bai Luo have been affected by the yaksha's karmic burden?

"What did you do?"

Immortals protect Liyue. Even though Bai Luo wasn't from Liyue, an immortal wouldn't go too far—at most, they'd teach him a lesson.

Perhaps Bai Luo had done something excessive?

Bai Luo reached into his pocket and pulled out a Sunsetia. "I gave him this."

Baizhu took the Sunsetia, sniffed it under his nose, and, as a doctor, immediately determined it was non-toxic.

He wiped it with a handkerchief, then took a bite.

Gathering herbs wasn't just Qiqi's job. Baizhu occasionally carried a medicine basket and wandered through the mountains himself. When tired or thirsty, spring water and Sunsetias sometimes became his provisions, so he had no qualms about eating them.

Except...

"..."

With a blank expression, Baizhu opened his mouth and spat out the barely-chewed Sunsetia onto the ground.

Do people carry Sunsetias with them? Sure, some parents pack fresh Sunsetias or apples for their children to snack on while playing. These wild mountain fruits are easy to pick and make great snacks.

But... who in the world carries such sour Sunsetias around?

"Sour?"

"Not too bad."

"I've got more. Want another?"

"..."

Seeing Bai Luo's cheerful smile, Baizhu suddenly felt that he might... no, definitely was doing this on purpose.

Baizhu didn't get angry. Instead, he stopped channeling his Dendro-element power, tucked Bai Luo in, and left the room.

"Doctor Bai, how is he?"

The Ninth Company surrounded Baizhu the moment he stepped out, anxiously asking for an update.

Baizhu sighed softly and shook his head slightly.

"The patient's injuries are very severe, and the wound needs immediate suturing. However, Bubu Pharmacy has run out of anesthetics, so it might..."

"Where can we find some? We'll go gather it!"

Katarina was the first to stand up, pounding her chest confidently.

"By the time you gather it, the patient might as well be sent directly to Wangsheng Funeral Parlor," Baizhu replied flatly.

He hadn't expected Bai Luo to be so well-liked among the Fatui, but there was no way he could let these soldiers go hunting for herbs.

"Then what should we do?" Katarina asked nervously, her eyes fixed on Baizhu.

"There's one solution, but I'll need your consent. Otherwise, I dare not proceed with the treatment."

"Doctor Bai, just tell us! As long as you can save our lord, we'll do anything."

"Right! If you need someone dead, we'll make sure they don't see tomorrow's sun!"

"We'll even storm the Golden House for you if that's what it takes!"

The Ninth Company surged forward, shouting fervently. They were ready to overturn all of Liyue if necessary. Baizhu almost wondered if they'd even threaten to flatten Northland Bank, despite it being a Fatui establishment.

"Actually, it's not that dramatic," Baizhu interjected. "I just need to perform the sutures without using anesthesia."

When Baizhu said this, he had already prepared himself for resistance. He even drafted several persuasive arguments in his mind to convince these stubborn Fatui soldiers.

After all, stitching without anesthesia was a form of pure torture. Surely, these soldiers wouldn't—

"Hah, that's it? Thought it'd be something serious!"

"Our lord jokes and laughs with us while carrying a belly full of injuries. How could he possibly fear a little pain?"

"Exactly! That night at Wangshu Inn, he downed an entire bottle of firewater, and later it even leaked out through his stomach wound. A true hero of our age!"

And just like that, the group of Fatui soldiers readily entrusted Bai Luo to Baizhu without hesitation.

Baizhu, true to his word, didn't let them down.

He raised his hands to calm the noisy group. Instantly, the Fatui soldiers quieted.

"Don't worry. I will suture the wound with the utmost precision and care, ensuring it heals quickly and leaves no scars," Baizhu reassured them, emphasizing the words precision and care in his tone, as if to underline his seriousness.

In reality...

"Qiqi."

After entering the inner room, Baizhu called out with a professional smile, one that didn't quite match his true intentions.

"Qiqi is here," replied the obedient zombie girl, standing by his side. Though primarily a herb gatherer, Qiqi occasionally assisted Baizhu in treatments, as her adeptus arts offered some healing capabilities.

"Fetch the largest, dullest needle we have," Baizhu instructed, still wearing his trademark professional smile.

Even the usually stoic Qiqi shuddered slightly at his words. The largest... the dullest...

Puzzled but dutiful, Qiqi jotted down the instruction and headed to the pharmacy.

Not long after, Bai Luo's cries echoed throughout Bubu Pharmacy.

"What? No anesthetic?! You're just going straight for it?!"

"Wait, are you stitching a wound or knitting a sweater?!"

"Argh—! Didn't you say eight stitches? This feels like eighteen!"

"WHAT?! Eighty stitches?!"
