Chapter 391: Chapter 391: The Tengu and the Fox (2-in-1 Chapter)

"Should I go with you? Hmm… never mind, I think I'll just wait here at the Kamisato Estate and look forward to your good news."

Although Kamisato Ayaka knew how capable Nolan was, as the eldest daughter of the Yashiro Commission, sneaking into the Tenryou Commission was too risky. If they were caught, the consequences could be severe.

"All right then, we're heading out. Wait here for our success," Paimon said with a cheerful nod.

"Yes, I'll leave it to all of you." A sweet smile appeared on Ayaka's fair face.

---

Inazuma City, Tenryou Commission

Nolan and his companions left the Kamisato Estate and quickly teleported back to Inazuma City via a teleport waypoint. After spending some time walking, they reached the Tenryou Commission just as night fell.

"This is the Tenryou Commission. Let's sneak in now," Paimon said excitedly under the veil of Nolan's invisibility domain.

"There are so many Shogunate soldiers here, but with their level of skill, they shouldn't be able to detect us."

Nolan's "Concealment Form" was a highly effective stealth technique. Unless they were physically touched or scanned by spiritual energy, it was nearly impossible for them to be discovered.

Among those in the Tenryou Commission, the strongest individual was likely Kujou Sara, who was only at level 72 and incapable of using spiritual energy detection. This made their infiltration relatively safe.

Using a map provided by Kamisato Ayaka, the group quickly reached Kujou Takayuki's residence.

The building was a traditional Inazuman wooden structure. The front door was tightly shut, and there didn't seem to be anyone inside. However, two Shogunate soldiers stood guard at the entrance.

It appeared that Kujou Takayuki was still at the Tenryou Commission office or possibly meeting secretly with the Fatui elsewhere.

Nolan extended his spiritual senses to confirm that the building was indeed empty.

He silently moved to the side of the house and used his spiritual energy to open an unguarded window. The group slipped inside without a sound.

The room they entered seemed to be a study. Perhaps this was where Kujou Takayuki met with the Fatui on occasion.

Even the study was guarded by Shogunate soldiers outside, which hinted at its significance.

Nolan and Lumine refrained from rummaging through the room's contents to avoid alerting the guards outside. Instead, they used spiritual energy to perform a rapid, thorough search of the area.

They also checked for any hidden compartments or secret rooms.

After a careful search, they found nothing particularly noteworthy. This meant they had to search other areas, such as the bedroom.

However, with soldiers standing guard outside, opening the door and leaving would draw attention.

The group decided to climb back out through the window and moved to the second floor, where there were no guards. This allowed them to search the rooms more freely.

"But is all this trouble necessary? Can't you just scan the entire Tenryou Commission with your spiritual energy?" Paimon asked, scratching her head and throwing her hands up in exasperation as she watched Nolan and Lumine sneak into yet another room.

Nolan and Lumine froze, exchanging glances filled with mutual embarrassment.

The idea was indeed viable, but it would consume a considerable amount of spiritual energy, which they had instinctively avoided using.

"Ahem, we thought of that, of course," Nolan said, placing one hand behind his back and covering his mouth with the other as he coughed lightly. "But we were concerned that someone sensitive to spiritual energy might detect us. Still, if we keep searching like this, who knows how long it'll take? Let's take the risk and try it."

"Exactly," Lumine chimed in, crossing her arms. Her folded arms slightly lifted the hem of her dress, exposing a hint of her soft, fair skin. She nodded in agreement, also attempting to mask her awkwardness.

Paimon rolled her eyes at them. "You obviously just didn't think of it. What's so hard about admitting that?"

Nolan dropped the slow search method. Along with Lumine, he extended their spiritual energy to cover the entire Tenryou Commission, dividing the area between them to reduce the strain.

After about ten minutes, Nolan made a discovery.

"Well? Did you find anything? I didn't find a single clue on my end," Lumine asked, looking at him expectantly.

"I did," Nolan replied. "But it's not in Kujou Takayuki's residence. It's in the reception hall of the Tenryou Commission. On the second floor, there's a meeting room that seems to be used by Kujou Takayuki for private meetings with individuals who need to remain discreet."

Nolan had spotted documents in the meeting room that suggested its purpose.

Kujou Takayuki, that old fox, hadn't stored any evidence of his collusion with the Fatui in his private residence. How cautious of him. But for someone capable of scanning large areas with spiritual energy, unless the evidence was destroyed, no hiding spot would suffice.

"Now that we have a lead, let's head there," Lumine said, pressing her soft lower lip in thought.

"Agreed," Nolan replied.

He led the group to the window, where they leapt out. Activating their wind gliders, they soared toward the main building of the Tenryou Commission.

Because they weren't using elemental powers, they didn't have to worry about disrupting the invisibility field.

---

After a while, Nolan and the others descended in front of the Tenryou Commission building. Ignoring the Shogunate soldiers guarding the entrance, they strolled boldly through the front door.

In the main hall, they saw Kujou Takayuki himself.

He was furiously scolding a Shogunate soldier. From what they overheard, it seemed to be about Thoma's escape.

"Can't even capture a mere housekeeper? What are you good for?!" Kujou Takayuki yelled angrily.

It was clear that he was quite upset about Thoma's escape. After all, the Vision Hunt Decree had been in effect for a long time, and most of the easily found Vision holders had already been captured.

Thoma, the one-hundredth Vision holder captured, had managed to escape. Who knew how long it would take to catch another?

"It's all because of that damned adventurer! If not for him taking Raiden Shogun's Musou no Hitotachi and ruining her mood, the Vision Hunt Ceremony could have been completed smoothly!"

After dismissing the incompetent Shogunate captain, Kujou Takayuki grumbled bitterly once more.

To Raiden Shogun and the common citizens, the Vision Hunt Ceremony was merely a symbol of the decree's progress.

But to Kujou Takayuki, it was something far more personal: proof of his loyalty to the Fatui and the fruits of his efforts to gain greater benefits from them.

"Wow, that bastard is blaming you! I'd love to punch him right in the face!" Paimon said, pointing angrily at Kujou Takayuki.

"Don't worry, he won't be around much longer. Let's focus on getting what we came for," Nolan said calmly, showing no concern for Kujou Takayuki's accusations.

"Okay."

Nolan bypassed Kujou Takayuki, heading toward the side staircase. As they climbed up, they spotted two Shogunate soldiers guarding the way.

However, thanks to their invisibility, the guards didn't notice them, and they made it to the meeting room without any issues.

The hallway was empty, and Nolan used his spiritual energy to quietly open the door. The room was pitch black, with no candles lit, but that didn't matter.

Nolan already knew where the documents were.

Leading Lumine and Paimon to a table at the back of the room—likely where Kujou Takayuki sat during his meetings—Nolan knelt down and opened the cabinet under the table, taking out the items inside.

"Are these the incriminating documents? Why would he leave them here so carelessly?" Paimon asked, puzzled.

"Kujou Takayuki is overconfident. He thinks the Tenryou Commission is so well-guarded that no one could infiltrate it," Nolan replied with a faint smile as he retrieved the documents.

"It's so dark; I can't see anything," Paimon said, squinting at what looked like some papers.

"These are official reports meant to be submitted to Raiden Shogun, along with correspondence between the Tenryou Commission and the Fatui," Nolan explained. Even without opening the documents, he had already examined their contents using his spiritual energy.

"I see. This is more than enough evidence to prove Kujou Takayuki's collusion with the Fatui," Lumine said with a nod.

"Great! Let's bring these back to Ayaka right away. With this, we can bring Kujou Takayuki down!" Paimon exclaimed excitedly.

"Maybe. It'll ultimately depend on how the Yashiro Commission handles it. I'm not well-versed in politics," Nolan said with a light chuckle.

He had faith in the Yashiro Commission, particularly in Kamisato Ayato, whom he had yet to meet but regarded as another "old fox."

With the evidence in hand, the group began their retreat.

Since no one had noticed them, they exited the Tenryou Commission smoothly.

(T/N: Can't Lumine directly teleport to a waypoint..? )

As they were leaving and about to turn into a nearby street, a voice suddenly called out:

"Well, well, little tengu, here's the evidence you've been looking for. Once you see it, you'll believe what I've been saying."

Turning the corner, they were met with two women.

One was Kujou Sara, whom they had seen during the Vision Hunt Ceremony, always by Raiden Shogun's side. The other had long, silky pink hair and a face as radiant and ethereal as a fairy's.

She wore a red and white shrine maiden outfit that revealed her shoulders, with hints of her snow-white underarm and side chest faintly visible under the night's shadow.

The wide sleeves were detached from the top, resembling arm cuffs fastened around her upper arms.

Her soft, snow-white legs extended from the short front hem of her outfit, while the longer side and back hems trailed down to her calves.

At this moment, Yae Miko stood with her arms crossed, gazing slyly at the empty space ahead, and chuckled as she spoke to Kujou Sara.

"Lady Guuji Yae, please refrain from saying nonsense. There's no one in front of us," Kujou Sara replied, following Yae Miko's gaze but finding nothing there.

"Hehe, that's because your training isn't sufficient yet. Little ones, why not reveal yourselves and have a chat with us?" Yae Miko said with a playful smile, continuing to look at the seemingly empty space ahead.

"Eh? Have we been discovered? That tengu-masked person—I remember she's the sidekick who follows Raiden Shogun around!"

Inside the invisibility domain, Paimon exclaimed in surprise to Nolan and Lumine.

"So we've been found, huh? Looks like you messed up this time," Lumine said calmly, not too worried. After all, even if they couldn't fight their way out, they could always escape.

"Uh, you can't blame me for this. After all, we've run into Raiden Shogun's close friend, the legendary Lady Guuji Yae herself, renowned for her wisdom and beauty," Nolan replied as he dispelled the invisibility domain.

He hadn't expected to run into Yae Miko here of all places—and it seemed she had intentionally brought Kujou Sara along to wait for them.

Could she have predicted their actions tonight?

Nolan's golden Eye of Judgement glanced at the "Level: 96" above Yae Miko's head. His eyebrows raised slightly. Such a level placed her at the pinnacle, even among adeptus-tier beings.

"Wait, Raiden Shogun's close friend? Does that mean the enemy has noticed us?" Paimon asked nervously, shrinking behind Lumine.

"Relax, it's not a big problem. They're probably not here to arrest us," Nolan said, shaking his head.

"Hehe, this little guy is quite sharp!" Yae Miko chuckled, clearly pleased by Nolan's compliment about her "wisdom and beauty." This adventurer who had endured the Shogun's Musou no Hitotachi certainly had good taste.

Kujou Sara, seeing the group suddenly appear in front of her, spoke in surprise.

"You're the Traveler! Why are you here?"

"Hey, shouldn't we be asking you that? Who are you, and why are you blocking us here?" Paimon retorted, trying to feign innocence despite knowing they had likely been exposed.

"Oh my, I wonder which two little fools were carelessly projecting their spiritual energy all over the Tenryou Commission. If it weren't for my kind intervention to cover for you…"

Musou no Hitotachi might have sliced through from Tenshukaku already! Honestly, I'm hurt that you would mistake me for an enemy after I helped you," Yae Miko said, feigning wiping away tears with an exaggerated dramatic flair, leaving Nolan and Lumine speechless.

It was as if they had bullied her like some kind of villain.

Lumine and Paimon, finding it difficult to deal with such an eccentric woman, shifted their gazes to Nolan for help.

Nolan awkwardly scratched his cheek, realizing he had been a bit careless earlier. Thankfully, it was Yae Miko who had discovered them first. If it had been Raiden Shogun, as Yae Miko said, Musou no Hitotachi might have already come for them.

Of course, with their large-scale spiritual energy projection, they would have noticed it in time and teleported away—but doing so would mean failing to retrieve the evidence.

After a brief pause, Nolan expressed his gratitude to Yae Miko and then inquired politely.

"I see. Thank you very much for your assistance, Lady Guuji. May I ask what brings you to us?"

"Oh dear, are we really going to discuss this kind of thing out in the streets? If any passing citizens were to overhear, Inazuma City might end up with yet another 'urban legend,' don't you think?"

Yae Miko chuckled softly, covering her cherry-pink lips with her hand, before continuing.

"Come with me to the Yae Publishing House. I do have something to discuss with you all. Besides, Miss Tengu here has a few questions that your little 'findings' from the Tenryou Commission might help confirm."

Hearing this, Nolan, Lumine, and Paimon exchanged glances.

Out of gratitude for Yae Miko's help, Lumine and Paimon decided to follow her and see what she wanted.

Nolan had no objections either—after all, this was a chance to increase affection points. Moreover, he had a good guess that Yae Miko's intentions likely involved the Vision Hunt Decree and Raiden Shogun.
