Chapter 19: Chapter 19: I lied, I was jealous, now hurry and comfort me
A joy surged within her, so genuine it seemed to escape the confines of her body. It grew uncontrollably in her heart and spread throughout her entire being.
Unable to suppress her beaming smile, Furina turned towards Themis. Under her watchful gaze, Furina gently cupped her face and pressed a kiss to her forehead.
Meeting Themis's slightly astonished eyes, Furina feigned indignation as she chose to look away. In truth, she kept stealing glances to observe Themis's expression.
"Ahem, don't get the wrong idea. This is merely a blessing from your esteemed Furina," she said coyly.
"Also, I wasn't upset at all!"
"I'm a formidable Archon, after all. Why would I be upset?"
"You must have mistaken!" she insisted.
Even Focalors, the silent stalker who had been secretly observing them all this time, felt a hint of frustration. Who was that pitiful person moments ago, on the verge of shedding tears?
Was it just a simple kiss? Is that enough to satisfy you now?
Themis, her head bowed, a smile playing at the corners of her lips—Very well, she thought, since even Furina feels this way, perhaps I truly was mistaken.
Still, how unexpected...
Furina, wilted like a flower in the heat of Themis's gaze, took a deep breath and rose to her feet.
"Furina, this is actually the first time you've kissed me unprompted."
"Is this what the blessings of the gods truly feel like?"
"My heart is overjoyed, I must say."
Raising an eyebrow, Themis beamed, her eyes full of inquiry.
Furina's composure returned. "Indeed! This is the blessing of the gods—a magic that brings pure happiness!"
Nodding, Themis felt a bit lost. She didn't really understand what the true blessings of the gods were supposed to be like.
But this happiness—it was something Furina reserved just for her!
If anyone else tried to make Furina treat them likewise, they'd find themselves unceremoniously shipped off to the Fortress of Meropide for a taste of rebirth.
"So, oh great god Furina, are you truly happy now?"
"Hmph~ As the very embodiment of water, I've never known sadness. I am the great God of Justice, after all."
Under Themis's smiling gaze, Furina began to feel slightly uneasy. "Hehe, alright, go tend to your duties now. I assure you, I'm perfectly fine—I couldn't possibly have any troubles."
"Compared to me, the situation down below is surely more urgent!"
"Your new blonde friend must be feeling quite troubled right now."
A hint of jealousy crept into Furina's voice as she spoke these words.
"See, you were chatting with her so happily just a moment ago."
"She's distressed now, and I'm sure you want to help her, don't you? So go ahead, quickly."
"I won't mind at all, really, it's no trouble for me."
Furina pursed her lips, her gaze unfocused as her fingers nervously fiddled with the hem of her dress.
Themis had witnessed this adorable quirk in her Lady before, many times.
"So, you do care, Lady Furina," Themis teased softly.
"Are we a little... jealous?"
The light chuckle by her ear made Furina's body stiffen.
"I'm not jealous! I'm a archon - how could I possibly be jealous with an ordinary Traveler?"
"All right then, you're definitely not jealous at all."
Still smiling, Themis bent down to gently stroke the head of the 'jealous cat'.
Looking straight into Furina's eyes, Themis spoke with an expression of sincere love, "No matter what happens, you are the only person I truly love, Lady Furina."
"Please have more confidence in yourself. After all, in my heart, you are worthy of being loved by everyone."
"Don't be afraid, Lady Furina."
"Regardless of how time flows or how the world changes, you are someone I will always love."
"There are no ifs or buts about it; this is simply the truth."
"It doesn't matter about status, destiny, or the world around us."
With a playful wink, Themis nuzzled her face against Furina's cheek.
"So, please stop feeling jealous and don't continue to cry, okay?"
"At least for now, I'm standing here beside you, wanting to stay by your side until you find true happiness."
Themis held Furina's head, gently lifting it as she tried to bury it in embarrassment. Her slightly cool hands on Furina's face made it clear how flushed and warm it had become.
"Seriously, why do you always say such embarrassing things?"
"No, I only say it to you."
"Liar! The previous traveler was smiling so happily. You must have told her too."
"It's all about past relationships! Those cheating people always say that!"
Themis felt a bit wronged; after all, she clearly cared for Furina. She had just said a few extra words to her, hadn't she? Why did it become a thing she'd say to everyone?
And comparing her to cheating people, no less.
Furina grumpily pushed Themis' hand away from her head. Honestly, she had become incredibly happy at this moment.
But after this moment of happiness, Furina noticed the spectators continuously looking up at them.
As someone who cares deeply about her public image, even though she was extremely reluctant, Furina had no choice but to remove Themis' hand.
"Come on, give me some dignity, we're in a public place right now."
Themis understood immediately, "So you're saying it's fine in private, then?"
"Hmph~ And if I decide to give you that chance or not, be careful or I might send you to have a free meal in the Fortress of Meropide for a few days."
"Oh no, I'm so scared! Please, Lady Furina, show some mercy."
"Hmph, good that you know your place."
Furina arched her back and lifted her chin, her smug little expression falling upon Themis's eyes as utterly adorable.
Oh my, Furina looks truly charming with this kind of demeanor.
Under Furina's furious gaze, Themis gently pinched her Lady's soft cheeks, inwardly sighing in relief.
Perfect, this should do the trick, right?
If even this couldn't appease Furina, Themis would resort to her trump card: letting loose a few tears. At that point, it would be Furina's turn to rush over anxiously and comfort her.
Trust Themis on this - this secret weapon was guaranteed to work on Furina. Since it had never been used before, its effect would be infallible!
Before the audience could continue their staring, Themis hastily helped Furina smooth out her disheveled hair, seizing the opportunity to gently caress her soft locks.
"Well then, Lady Furina, shall we investigate together?"
"Certainly not! It's such a minor issue; you and Neuvillette should be able to handle it swiftly, no problem!"
"Of course," Themis replied with self-assured confidence. With the live stream as her cheat, it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say she had a glimpse into the future.
As it happened, Themis had just finished watching the entire trial process for this very case.
The exchange of glances with the Lady of the Waters, followed by Furina's deathly stare during their conversation, left her feeling somewhat guilty.
Thank goodness for the streamer's tip, she mused. Without it, I'd have been racking my brains trying to figure out why Furina was so upset.
Normal humans already have complex feelings—how can one possibly keep up with Furina's ever-changing moods?
Under Themis's unblinking gaze, Furina blushed, covering her face with embarrassment as she repeatedly urged them on. "Hurry up and go investigate, don't just stare at me like that—it's truly impolite."
"All right, Lady Furina, I'll get to work right away."
As they stepped away, Themis didn't forget to take Furina's hand, gently kissing it before successfully eliciting a bashful, curling-up kitty reaction.
However, as they turned to leave, the fluttering ribbons of their dress were tugged, prompting Themis to cast a puzzled glance back over their shoulder.
Furina bit her lip, mustering up the courage to say, "Don't think I'm so forgiving that I won't get upset if you don't reciprocate my feelings."
"So, hurry up and find out the truth, then come keep me company."
"Don't get too close to others, either."
"And one more thing... I lied earlier; I really am jealous."
"Ah..." Themis sounded delighted. "It's my great fortune to make you jealous indeed."
"Well then, I'll ascertain the truth as quickly as possible and come to your side soon. Please wait just a bit."
