Chapter 249 - Changing Winter (1)
Click-clack.
The sound of high heels. A sound that could be heard in any office, yet in this situation, it felt chilling. It was understandable.
“Extend your hands, Miss Denson.”
Clad in black suits and coats, a group armed with occasional glimpses of armor.
Clang.
They brandished a pair of cuffs that didn’t look ordinary at all. However, Olivia Denson extended both hands without a word.
Clack.
The oversized shackles, difficult even for an orc to break, locked around her delicate, white wrists.
Then,
Click-clack.
Another set of high heels echoed. A slender woman, cutting through the group in black attire, approached.
“Long time no see, Denson.”
A soft smile emerged from under her sunglasses. Yet, given the current situation, and considering who she was,
“Long time no see, reyna.”
It was clear that smile was a sneer. Olivia Denson knew this better than anyone.
“Looking good?”
Indeed, the woman called Reyna, with that same gentle smile, sneered.
“The one who always pretended to be so haughty… Ignoring even the guild’s orders.”
“They were not the guild’s orders, but the orders of the Guild Master.”
“Aha ha!”
Reyna burst into laughter at Olivia’s response.
“Hey, Denson. Have you lost your mind? Isn’t that essentially the same?”
Still chuckling, she asked incredulously.
“No. They are distinctly different.”
Olivia answered with an unwavering face.
“Ha… I used to think you were at least smart despite being unlikeable. Seems I was wrong.”
With that, reyna laughed bitterly, truly astonished.
Winter Queen Olivia Denson.
Disliking her was personal,
but even Reyna acknowledged her intelligence and abilities.
“Looks like the great Winter Queen has lost her touch. Did you catch something from the Asians?”
Nothing about the current Olivia suggested she was the Winter Queen.
“And recently, your performance hasn’t been great, right? You couldn’t even recruit a player from a tiny country, so you had to establish this branch.”
Crossing her arms,
Reyna glanced at Olivia, trailing off.
“Well, everyone has their prime. I guess your time has expired.”
She chuckled and reached into her coat to pull out a sheet of paper.
“Our Guild Master… Seriously~. In this day and age, he still insists on writing these things by hand.”
Reyna looked at the paper disapprovingly before spreading it out.
Then,
“Olivia Denson, head of the Recruitment Department, ignored the guild’s regulations. In Ukraine, bla bla~.”
Reading through the content on the paper, she ended it in her own way,
“No need to read the whole thing, right?”
She tossed the paper aside.
“Anyway, the judiciary is detaining you for this offense. I hope you don’t have any objections.”
“It’s remarkable that you’ve maintained your position on the judiciary with that attitude.”
“So what? Anyway…”
Reyna playfully waved the paper, which appeared to be a handwritten document by Derick, the Guild Master of American Dream. However, her gaze towards Olivia was anything but playful.
“Once executed, there won’t even be any murmurs about it?”
Her tone was exceedingly chilling. Exactly like a serial killer relishing their kills.
“Denson. You’re lucky that your exterior is useful. You won’t be subjected to organ harvesting or experiments.”
“Have you been doing such things to detained individuals up until now?”
“Oh my, didn’t you know? You pretended to be so close to the Guild Master, but you knew nothing?”
Fwoosh.
In an instant, the handwritten document in Reyna’s hand burst into flames.
“And calling it such things? Recycling traitors in the guild is a very wise decision.”
“Don’t talk nonsense! I will definitely…”
“There you go again with your arrogance.”
Reyna tapped Olivia’s white forehead with her finger.
“The brighter an organization, the darker its shadows. And those shadows are necessary for it to shine.”
“Bullshit! Under the previous Guild Master!”
“Yes, yes, the previous Guild Master saved your life, I know. But let it go and worry about yourself now, okay?”
Reyna’s lips curled into a smirk.
“Like I said, you have a useful exterior. You’ll be used for entertainment purposes, not as a consumable.”
“Are you saying… you’re reaching into that area too?”
“Haha! You truly know nothing. Since the judiciary was founded, the entertainment unit was the first thing established.”
She laughed loudly, staring at Olivia with a disdainful gaze.
“On the surface, they look fine. But inside, they’re sly traitors. There’s nothing better for recycling.”
“You lunatic!”
“Oh my! Save that ‘lunatic’ talk for yourself. As a diamond-rank player, you’ll be thoroughly drugged with arena-sourced narcotics.”
As if she heard enough, reyna waved her hand dismissively and turned around.
“Reyna!!”
Contrary to her usual demeanor, Olivia’s eyes flared up as she raised her voice, but that was all.
Clang.
The restraints on Olivia’s wrists turned her into an ordinary human, removing her superhuman abilities.
Moreover, “First, we’ll have to start by correcting that annoying temper of yours.”
When Reyna pressed a small button in her hand,
Screech!
A sharp ringing sound pierced the air.
“Aaaah!”
Olivia screamed and collapsed to the floor.
“I’m really looking forward to this.”
Reyna sneered at the fallen Olivia.
“Let’s see how long the great Winter Queen can hold out. How long you can maintain that haughty attitude while wallowing in the mud.”
“You…!”
“See? You shouldn’t have messed with Derick. Oh my! If it were me, I would’ve showered him with affection. Talk about wasting your luck.”
She purred softly. Yet, with a blatant gesture of mocking, reyna shrugged her shoulders.
“Let’s go. We’re taking the traitor to the judiciary.”
“Yes.”
At her command, the members of the judiciary roughly lifted the debilitated Olivia and followed behind Reyna.
Clang.
“Ugh!”
However, their steps didn’t carry on for long. Three men blocked their path ahead. More precisely, it was because of the striking middle-aged man with a cold, blade-like aura standing at the forefront.
Step, step.
Perhaps he wasn’t in a good mood?
“Did you not receive my order?”
The middle-aged man’s voice was as cold as his appearance.
“My, my, what an honor to have such a distinguished guest.”
Reyna greeted the middle-aged man casually. Her composure wasn’t just because she was a top-rank diamond player.
“Well, considering you’re the Director of American Dream’s judiciary, even a reception by the Association President isn’t bad.”
American Dream, the world’s strongest guild alongside Continental. Her calm demeanor also came from her position as a member of the powerful judiciary.
However, “You still don’t get it, do you?”
The Association President of South Korea.
Kim Muyeol, also known as the Ironwood King, didn’t seem the least bit threatened.
“I asked if you received my order.”
Kim Muyeol repeated his question without batting an eye.
No, his voice grew even colder.
“An order? What kind of order did the Korean Association President give to our judiciary?”
Reyna tilted her head defiantly while looking at the blond man standing behind Kim Muyeol.
“Mr. Denson?”
She gazed at Oliver Denson.
Then, “Olivia Denson, head of the Recruitment Department at American Dream, is currently banned from leaving the country due to various charges, including tax evasion and illegal recruitment activities.”
Oliver read out the official document from the Association.
“Ha!”
Reyna scoffed.
Because, “The great Winter Queen committed illegal acts, including tax evasion? In this tiny country?”
Winter Queen Olivia Denson. She knew better than anyone about her thoroughness.
“This is so absurd, it leaves me speechless.”
Moreover, as far as Reyna knew, Olivia Denson wasn’t someone who would commit such petty illegal acts. Even if she had committed such acts, ‘She would have done it in a way that the Association wouldn’t notice. She’s not just anyone.’
She would have carried it out so seamlessly that the Association couldn’t detect it.
‘Annoying as she is, she’s incredibly competent.’
That was why Guild Master Derick kept her close, wasn’t it?
Well, not anymore.
“But these are just charges, aren’t they? Banning someone from leaving the country without concrete evidence—is that reasonable? Moreover,”
Reyna’s eyebrow arched up.
“I heard you say ‘my order’. To me, that sounds like an abuse of personal power by the Association President.”
“So what?”
“So, there’s no reason to obey the ‘Ironwood King’s’ orders. It would be the same even if it were an order from the Korean Association.”
Reyna emphasized the title “Ironwood King” with a particular disdain, indicating that she was accusing him of personal abuse of power rather than acting as the Association President.
Kim Muyeol didn’t bat an eye.
“You’re refusing to comply with my order?”
He merely repeated her words.
At that, “Well! Do you think I have to take orders from just the Association President of Korea?”
Reyna’s response was cut short.
Bang!
A sudden explosion echoed from the wall.
Crunch.
Thick brown roots burst forth. Yet, as expected of an executive of American Dream’s judiciary, reyna immediately raised her arm, cloaking herself in protective energy, she blocked the massive root charging at her head.
Crack!
Still, it wasn’t a perfect block.
“Ugh!”
Reyna was pushed several steps sideways. And into her ears, a voice sharp enough to cut through could be heard.
“Chris, the head of the judiciary, doesn’t dare, but mere executive like you…”
Not just the voice, “You dare display arrogance to me?”
Kim Muyeol’s icy gaze was even more chilling. At the same time, A powerful aura like a physical force enveloped Reyna entirely.
Whoosh.
Reyna involuntarily swallowed hard.
‘The Ironwood King… Truly a first-generation active high-ranker.’
Despite being a top-rank diamond herself, the sight of the Ironwood King in front of her made her break out in a cold sweat.
The judiciary members behind her, merely trembled and groaned under his sheer aura without even being physically attacked.
“Ugh!”
“Grr, ahem!”
Of the twenty-odd members, only two remained standing unaffected. Considering that the minimum spec required for the judiciary is platinum,
‘Even in old age, a tiger is still a tiger…’
Kim Muyeol’s aura was as formidable as his legend.
However, reyna deflected the root with her protective energy and stepped back,
Crack.
“If I was disrespectful, I apologize, but please do not forget my position.”
“Position?”
“You might not be aware, but I’m an executive of American Dream.”
No matter how great the Ironwood King was, he couldn’t oppose the world’s most powerful guild, American Dream.
Had it been possible, numerous conflicting forces would have already attacked.
Naturally, they would not have achieved the title of world’s top guild otherwise.
“But if the Association President continues to act like this, it could become an international issue.”
So,
“If you step back now, we’ll keep the matter of attacking an executive of American Dream under wraps.”
However, “Ha… Chris hasn’t trained his subordinates well. Well, he was an idiot in the arena too.”
Perhaps she only knew the Ironwood King by reputation, but Reyna’s response lacked wisdom.
“Listen well, woman. In this country…”
Kim Muyeol’s tone grew icier.
“There is nothing I cannot do.”
Boom!
Another explosion rang out.
This time, the attack came from both above and below.
“Ugh!”
Reyna, unable to completely defend with her protective energy, was sent soaring through the air.
Then, the ceiling and walls exploded simultaneously.
Bang!
Where were these roots hidden in the building?
Crunch.
Thick roots, as large as a troll’s forearm, shot towards her as if to impale her.
Cutting through the air,
‘Damn! I can’t block this!’
A look of panic immediately crossed Reyna’s face.
Without hesitation, her gaze shifted while airborne, towards the two individuals watching the situation unfold from behind.
‘In that case…’
Those two, seemingly ready to intervene, began to move.
“Whoa, whoa. Calm down.”
A clear voice cut through, halting the massive roots in an instant.
Crunch.
The skill to immediately stop an already awakened supernatural power was impressive.
“Gasp!”
Reyna barely managed to land, and the two who were about to help her didn’t have the luxury to admire Kim Muyeol’s technique.
And rightly so.
“I only asked to stop her from leaving, but what’s with this… Oh? Secretary Choi, you’re here too?”
“How could I be idle when the Association President is taking action?”
The man casually greeting Golem Choi Changwook, Kim Muyeol’s close aide, laughed as he saw the group.
“Haha! That makes sense. Ah! Mr. Oliver. It’s been a while.”
“Yes, it’s been a while, Shimun-ssi.”
He was an unexpected figure alongside Kim Muyeol.
At the same time, “Why is he here?”
“Kim Shimun…”
The two, who had been standing by, also had their eyes on him.
As if he heard them, Kim Shimun, who was about to exchange greetings with Kim Muyeol, turned his gaze toward them.
Then,
“Oh?”
Shimun’s eyes widened.
Immediately,
“You two… the Bomber and the Madam?”
As their nicknames slipped from his mouth,
“You cur!”
The middle-aged Arab, the Bomber Mo’Gadam, immediately extended his hand.
“Mo’Gadam! Wai—”
Before the Madam beside him could stop him, A powerful explosion engulfed the American Dream’s Korean branch.
Boom!
