As soon as work was over, the members of Team Three greeted Luo Fei and left one by one.

Luo Fei waited until everyone from Team Three had left before closing the door and leisurely headed towards the main door of the Criminal Police Team.

After waiting at the entrance for a while, Yang Mei and Wu Xiaoyue finally came out together.

"Sister Yang Mei, I'll head off first, so I won't be the third wheel." Wu Xiaoyue waved to Yang Mei, then subtly gave Luo Fei an encouraging gesture before taking off.

After Wu Xiaoyue left, Luo Fei said to Yang Mei, "The concert is still early; let's go have dinner first."

"Sure!" Yang Mei replied.

"Where should we go to eat?" Yang Mei asked.

"Let's go to Old Qiao's Private Kitchen Cuisine, the food there is pretty good," Luo Fei suggested.

"Alright, but I didn't drive today, should we take a cab?" Yang Mei asked.

"The concert is still early, and Old Qiao's Private Kitchen isn't far from here. Let's walk there slowly," Luo Fei suggested.

"Okay," Yang Mei nodded. She deliberately didn't drive today, partly because she wanted to walk with Luo Fei, to increase their time alone together.

The two then walked side by side, chatting and strolling slowly into the distance, with Yang Mei's cheerful laughter occasionally ringing out. When facing someone she likes, the conversation is always enjoyable, regardless of the other person's humor.

Before long, the two arrived at Old Qiao's Private Kitchen.

This place is known for its delicious food, so it attracts quite a number of diners. At this moment, the first floor was already full.

"Excuse me, the first floor is full, but there are two seats left on the second floor," the service staff told Luo Fei and Yang Mei.

"Let's go to the second floor then," Luo Fei replied.

The server then led Luo Fei and Yang Mei to the second floor.

Indeed, the second floor was also crowded, with only two tables empty near the wall to the right in the view.

The server led Luo Fei and Yang Mei to their seats, handed them the menus, and then went downstairs.

"Yang Mei, you can order, see what you like?" Luo Fei handed the menu to Yang Mei.

"You order, I don't know what's good here, just order whatever," Yang Mei said.

"Alright, anything you don't eat?" Luo Fei asked.

"No, I'm not picky at all. My mom always says I'm the easiest to raise; I used to eat everything she gave me when I was little, not picky at all," Yang Mei said with a smile.

"Haha, I couldn't tell, alright, then I'll order," Luo Fei smiled back, then picked a few dishes he thought were tasty from the menu.

After ordering, Luo Fei and Yang Mei chatted while waiting for their food.

About ten minutes later, a couple came up the stairs on the second floor—it was a man around thirty-seven or thirty-eight, wearing a Polo shirt, slacks, and leather shoes, with neatly combed hair, having a dignified and successful presence; the woman looked under thirty, petite, sweet-looking, with a gentle, refined demeanor.

Since there was only an empty table next to Luo Fei and Yang Mei, the server led the couple over to sit at the vacant table behind Luo Fei.

At that moment, Luo Fei's eyebrows furrowed slightly. Just when the couple came up, Luo Fei noticed at first glance that the man had an aura of black mist looming over his head. Although there was no small black figure, the black mist meant the man had definitely done something illegal, as otherwise, such an aura wouldn't be there.

"In Ningjiang, the steamed fish at Old Qiao's Private Kitchen is the best. It's different from other places. Last time you came, I meant to take you here for this specialty dish, but you left in such a hurry and didn't get to try it." Luo Fei heard the woman introducing the dish to the man, indicating that he isn't from Ningjiang.

"Last time something urgent came up at the company, so I really didn't have the time, but it's okay, I can try it this time, right? I'll savor the dish this time and see what makes it deserve your endless praise, Xiaoxi." The man had a bright smile on his face.

"It won't disappoint you. But how long will you stay this time?" the woman asked, and Luo Fei could tell she seemed quite dependent on him.

"After meeting your parents this time, I'll stay two more days with you, then I'll head back, as there's still a lot of work to do at the company," the man answered.

"It always feels so short when I'm with you. By the way, didn't you mention that next month is your birthday? Is there anything you want as a gift?" the woman asked.

The man thought for a moment, "Last year I rewarded myself with a Mercedes for my birthday, so this year I'll keep it simple; maybe I'll just get myself a watch. I've got two Cartier watches already, so this time I'm considering an IWC one. I saw the pilot series online, and it seemed nice, not too pricey, only about eighty to ninety thousand."

The man spoke casually, as if eighty or ninety thousand was nothing to him, showcasing a wealthy demeanor.

"I'm just mentioning this; you really don't have to buy it for me. Even if you want to get it, just select the model, and I'll pay for it myself. You work hard for your money too," the man suddenly continued to the woman.

The woman initially appeared hesitant. Her family conditions were reasonably good, and she owned a pet shop that brought in ten thousand a month, but spending eighty or ninety thousand was still significant for her.

However, upon hearing the man's words, her hesitant expression turned determined, and she promptly said, "No way, how could I let you buy your own gift? I want to buy it myself."

"Oh, Xiaoxi, you work hard too. Why don't you listen to reason?" The man showed a helpless expression, then added, "Okay, okay, let's leave it at that. When it's your birthday, I'll buy you a Porsche, no objections." The man confidently said to the woman.

When the woman initially decided to spend eighty or ninety thousand to buy a watch for the man, she felt a bit pained, as she thought, just like the man said, she worked hard earning money herself. She wouldn't even spend that much on herself.

But hearing the man say he would buy her a Porsche for her birthday, she felt nothing but joy, gazing at him with eyes full of affection.

"Alright," she nodded repeatedly in agreement.

Behind the pair of man and woman, Luo Fei was chatting with Yang Mei, but his attention was entirely focused on the conversation between the man and the woman next door. Their voices were not loud, but since they were quite close, plus Luo Fei was eavesdropping attentively, he was able to hear their chat clearly and distinctly.

Perhaps the woman was romantically involved with the man, as she, being engrossed in love, trusted his words unquestionably. However, Luo Fei, as an observer, noticed the dark aura looming over the man's head, and he was almost certain that the man had just been coaxing the woman into buying him an expensive watch.

"Something about rewarding himself with a Mercedes last year" "Something about you looking at the watch, I'll pay for it." "Something about why don't you listen, okay okay"

Luo Fei, as an observer, immediately knew these were lies meant to lure the woman into a trap; it was just that the woman was deeply involved and oblivious at this moment.

Judging by the situation, this man was a habitual offender and likely often used this method to swindle money and similar things.

"What are you thinking about, Luo Fei?" Yang Mei was chatting enthusiastically, but seeing Luo Fei frowning in thought, she asked.

"Sorry, suddenly thought of something and got distracted." Luo Fei said, then took out his phone and sent a text message to Yang Mei, informing her of his suspicion that the man behind them was a scammer.

Yang Mei heard the text alert and was a bit puzzled when she saw Luo Fei texting her despite sitting across from her. After reading the message, she understood the situation.

Because Yang Mei was seated slightly farther away and her attention was entirely on chatting with Luo Fei just now, she was completely unaware of the chat between the man and woman behind Luo Fei.

"So what should we do now?" Yang Mei texted Luo Fei.

"Don't worry, I'll notify the police station to come over and casually check everyone's identity information in the restaurant. This way, even if the man isn't a scammer, it won't matter." Luo Fei replied.

Yang Mei replied with an OK emoji.

Luo Fei then excused himself to go to the bathroom and called Zhang Haiyang, informing him of what was happening in the restaurant and asking him to bring some people over to verify the man's identity information.

After finishing the call, Luo Fei returned to his seat and gestured an OK sign to Yang Mei.

Just then, the dishes for Luo Fei and Yang Mei were served.

"Let's eat something." Luo Fei calmly told Yang Mei, having been accustomed to handling all sorts of murder cases in the past, he was unperturbed by small-scale scams, which barely caused a ripple in his mind.

"Okay." Yang Mei nodded, obviously not paying much attention either.

"The fish here is really good, try it." Luo Fei said casually as he picked up a piece and gave it to Yang Mei.

"Thank you." Yang Mei replied.

About ten minutes later, Zhang Haiyang and Liu Haiquan arrived.

"Sorry for interrupting your meal, we are trying to catch a thief and need to check everyone's identification and ask a few questions. Please cooperate with our work." Zhang Haiyang announced loudly.

Upon hearing that the police were catching a thief, people were somewhat displeased but still cooperated honestly.

When it was Luo Fei and Yang Mei's turn, they casually gave false identities, and Zhang Haiyang and Liu Haiquan were just going through the motions. After superficially checking Yang Mei and Luo Fei, Zhang Haiyang and Liu Haiquan walked over to the man and woman behind Luo Fei.

"May I ask you two to show your IDs?" Zhang Haiyang asked.

The woman quickly took out her ID, but when it was the man's turn, he calmly said, "I left my ID at the hotel, didn't bring it."

"What's your name?" Zhang Haiyang asked.

"Liu Shifei"

"Where are you from?"

"Anxi Province"

"What job do you do?"

"I run a company."

"What's the name of your company?"

"Changyuan Technology Limited Company?"

"Why did you come here?"

"To see my girlfriend."

"Why can't I find your company name online?"

"The company is small, so it can't be found."

Up until now, the man answered smoothly, clearly thinking they were only casually questioning because Zhang Haiyang and the others were supposed to be catching a thief.

But then, Zhang Haiyang asked, "What's your ID number?"

The man frowned slightly, then said with a dissatisfied tone, "Officer, you don't think I'm the thief, do you? Do I look like a thief?"

"Yes, he's a company boss; he couldn't be a thief." The woman chimed in to support.

"We're just doing a routine check, please cooperate with our work." Zhang Haiyang continued.
