Chapter 117: Comparing oneself to others brings anger (Seeking subscriptions and monthly votes)_2
It's supposed to be a public group, but it's actually a group Wang Yong and his friends set up privately, just with everyone in it.
Also, Zhao Donglai has the habit of informing about any official matters over the phone.
So this group usually just exists for everyone to chat and share daily. Luo Fei finds it noisy, so he usually has notifications muted.
So when he opened it just now, he saw a 99+ message notification.
He scrolled up and, as expected, most messages were from lively members like Wang Lei from Group 1, Xia Zheng, and Wang Yong and Zhao Cheng from Group 3.
The content is nothing more than a bit of teasing and banter.
He didn't scroll up any further and directly edited a message to send it out.
"Today at five o'clock, Fat Sister Hot Pot, don't forget everyone."
He tagged all members along the way.
Little by little, people started replying that they received the message soon after it was sent out.
Soon, Wang Yong sent a message too, "We haven't forgotten, don't worry, leader."
"There's no way we'd forget something like this!" Zhao Cheng followed up quickly.
"Definitely two foodies."
"Zhang Fan, you're no different..."
A few of them started bickering again.
But of course, Luo Fei didn't know any of this, as he withdrew from the chat after sending his message and then picked up a book on criminal police work to read.
At five in the afternoon, Luo Fei arrived on time at Fat Sister Hot Pot.
The active ones like Wang Yong were already standing at the door waiting for him, and, shortly after, Luo Fei joined them, they didn't wait too long before everyone was there.
Because they were a large group, they split into two tables to sit.
Fat Sister Hot Pot was a newly opened all-you-can-eat hot pot, fifty-nine per person.
Even though it added up to almost a thousand for over twenty people, it was still relatively affordable compared to other places.
You have to know that a meal like Zhao Donglai's last time cost at least five or six thousand.
Additionally, drinks and dishes were all free here, so everyone was quite satisfied with their meal.
By the end, everyone's belly was full and round, and people like Wang Yong were belching, saying that if they invited again, they'd come back here.
Come Monday morning, shortly after Zhao Donglai arrived at the police team, the transfer order from above came down.
He immediately called Luo Fei and Yang Su in.
"You two get ready; the transfer order has come down. By Monday, Luo Fei and I will go to the city to report."
Both of them nodded in agreement.
Then Zhao Donglai looked at Luo Fei again.
"Luo Fei, since there's not much going on these days, take the time to train everyone a bit more. I'll feel more at ease once we're in the city."
"Additionally, I've already reported the Sun Jun situation to Director Wu, and Director Zheng has also approved, so make sure to inform him about it once you get out."
"Understood, I got it."
Back in the Group 3 office, Zhao Cheng and the others were huddled together talking about something, while Sun Jun was sitting at his desk, flipping through a book on administration.
Luo Fei was always aware of Sun Jun's hard work.
Upon his arrival, Zhao Cheng and the others stopped chatting.
"Leader, what did Captain Zhao want?"
"Our transfer order is here; we're to report next Monday."
"So soon?"
Upon hearing the news, the previously laughing members suddenly looked downcast.
Even Sun Jun stopped his reading, looking downcast.
"No choice, this is how they arranged it, so we have to comply... By the way, Sun Jun, Captain Zhao told me to inform you that once I'm gone, you will take over as the leader of Group 3. Fill out the paperwork with him when you're free."
"Okay, thank you, Leader." Luo Fei responded promptly.
Zhao Donglai had privately informed him about recommending him.
Even though Sun Jun believed that even without a recommendation, the position would likely be his, he appreciated Luo Fei's kind gesture.
When Luo Fei was appointed leader, he was genuinely unconvinced, thinking it was just luck. But over time, he grew to admire Luo Fei genuinely.
Because of this, even though he got the leader position as he wished, he didn't feel particularly thrilled but rather felt a bit conflicted.
After a few words, Luo Fei told them to notify everyone and go to the conference room for ongoing training.
After lunch, everyone knew about their upcoming reassignment next week, causing the entire police team to feel down, which made everyone noticeably more serious during the afternoon training.
On the way home from work that evening, Yang Mei brought it up.
"Luo Fei, you'll be going to the city soon; have you thought about housing? Will you commute daily, stay in the dorm, or rent a place?"
"I'll stay in the dorm."
Luo Fei had already considered this.
At first, he planned to buy a car and commute daily after work.
But later, he considered the daily commute's toll and his primary goal of saving money to buy a house. A car wasn't necessary, so he decided to delay that purchase.
Plus, he learned from Zhao Donglai that group leaders could get an individual dorm room.
Even though there's no kitchen, there's a canteen at the police station, so it wasn't necessary to spend more on renting a place.
"That works, it's not far; if you finish early, you can still come back."
Yang Mei sighed suddenly after speaking.
"What's up?"
"Nothing, just thinking we won't be commuting together like this anymore makes me a bit melancholic."
"Didn't you say before that true love remains despite the distance? Why the melancholy now?"
Luo Fei teased, causing Yang Mei to glare at him several times.
"I said that, but it still doesn't feel good emotionally."
Seeing her little pout, Luo Fei chuckled, "Don't worry, I'll come back for you whenever I can. Even when we're apart, we can call and text."
"That'll have to do..."
After that, Luo Fei arrived on time for work every day, continuing the training until he clocked out.
Before he knew it, the week had flown by.
Friday after work, Yang Su also treated everyone to a meal.
This was both to see Zhao Donglai off and to celebrate his promotion.
If it were any other time with all the treats, they'd be overjoyed.
But with the impending parting, the joy was a bit diluted. Everyone was smiling on the surface but privately drinking away their sorrows.
Even Zhao Donglai noticed and offered some comforting words, which lifted everyone's spirits a bit.
Luo Fei also caught on to the mood and drank quite a bit.
By the time he got home, he still felt dizzy.
Wu Yan was sitting in the living room and noticed his unsteady walking and alcohol smell.
"Why did you drink so much?" she complained and instructed Luo Xiaoxiao to get him a glass of water.
Luo Fei sat across from her, "Knowing I'm leaving, everyone found ways to drink me under the table; no choice, I drank too much."
Wu Yan felt a bit sorry for him, but she understood and didn't say more.
"Have you packed everything you need for the city, or do you need help packing?"
"No need, Mom. It's not like I'm not coming back; just a couple of changes of clothes will do."
"Alright then, tomorrow, your second aunt and I plan to go to town to buy you a couple of free-range chickens to take with you to the city."
"Please don't, Mom. I plan to stay in the staff dorm without a place to cook. I wouldn't know what to do with chickens."
With that, Wu Yan gave up the idea.
Over the weekend, Luo Fei and Yang Mei made time to visit Tang Cuifang.
Since Zheng Huan's return, she's become noticeably more cheerful.
The group sat in the porridge shop and chatted for a while. Upon learning about Luo Fei's promotion, she was genuinely happy for him.
As they left, she brought out several large bags of specialties she specifically bought, insisting they take them home to try.
Luo Fei received a double portion with the explanation that one was a special thank-you for Luo Hao.
It turned out Zheng Huan had been in school for a while and quickly adapted with Luo Hao's help.
They couldn't refuse and ended up accepting with minor resistance.
Time flew by over the two days.
The night before departure, Zhao Donglai called to go over everything.
The next morning, Luo Fei hopped into Zhao Donglai's car, heading to the city.
Their transfer procedures were all completed, so they just needed to report directly to the city bureau this time.
