Garden Of Eden: Divine lineage

Chapter 6: Into the Night: The Tracklance Ambush part 2

The wind still howled, a relentless force that battered the trio atop the tracklance. The moonlight shimmered off the metallic frame, producing fleeting glints as the train sped through the desert. Adinim, Huia, and Akhaqia clung tightly to their perches, every muscle taut with the effort of holding on and not letting go against all the wind from the speeding track lance putting added pressure on them to do so. Inside, the opulence of first-class passengers continued uninterrupted, oblivious to the chaos outside, or, as some would say, on their doorstep or, better yet, on their rooftop.

Adinim, overwhelmed by the urgency of the mission after saving Huia, asked Akhaqia, "What do we do next?" When do we breach? he said while staring in Akhaqia's direction

Akhaqia glanced ahead, where the track curved faintly in the distance. His crest flickered, projecting a faint blueprint of the train's layout; he took some time staring at it before dissipating. "No time to wait. Security is tighter than we thought it would be. If we breach now, we'll have the element of surprise before the guards realize we're even here."

Akhaqia, before making his way in, said, Remember, stick to the plan.

Huia grimaced, still catching his breath. "And what about me? I don't have a crest to carve my way in."

Adinim glanced at him, his expression softening. "Stay close to me. You'll manage. Just don't let go again."

Akhaqia said Don't get soft on me now, Huia. You have the most important part of this. You can think of us as diversions or people who partake in extracurricular activities if you know what I am saying. he said while winking at Huia and Adinim. Positioned himself near the edge of the train car's roof. He conjured a small blade from his crest, its azure glow slicing cleanly into the metallic surface. Sparks flew as he began to carve an entry point. Adinim knelt with his spear at the ready, scanning for movement in the desert. The Alfheim Empire was notorious for its countermeasures; the last thing they needed was a drone or patrol spotting them.

A soft hiss signaled the completion of Akhaqia's work. He lifted the newly cut panel and peeked inside. The dim interior was illuminated by faint, golden lights. A storage compartment—stacked with crates, bags, and containers. "Clear," Akhaqia whispered.

One by one, they slipped inside. The hum of the tracklance was muffled now, replaced by the faint sounds of shifting cargo and the occasional creak of the train. Adinim took the lead, his weapon casting a faint red glow that danced across the walls.

"What exactly are we looking for?" Huia whispered, his voice tinged with nervousness.

Akhaqia thinks back on his meeting with the SAVASS agent, Argent Forty-Seven; to be more specific, he started to remember what the agent wanted to say to him as soon as he was about to be interrupted.

"Who goes there?" A man in an Alfeheim uniform called out. His voice lacked the commanding edge of a soldier, marking him as a regular patrol officer rather than military personnel. Hearing this, Akhaqia stepped forward with calm confidence, positioning himself directly in front of the guard while Adinim tried stepping forward, already shaping his hand as if he was going to conjure a sword, but before he could go through with the process, Huia grabbed him and pulled him into the corner. Huia and now Adinim hid in the corner, averting the guard's gaze or recognition.

"What are you doing back here in the rear of the tracklance? No one's allowed in this area."

"Ohhh, Akhaqia! I got lost looking for the bathroom," he replied with an innocent grin. "You don't mind showing me the way, do you?"

Above them, two freshly carved holes marked the roof of the tracklance. A guard below attempted to glance upward, but Akhaqia swiftly intervened.

"Shiriaru Hira!" Akhaqia called out, catching the guard's attention and pulling it back toward him.

"Yeah?" the guard responded.

"Wait, how do you know my name?" the guard asked suspiciously.

Akhaqia casually pointed toward the guard's uniform, where his name was neatly etched in yellow, the trademark of a Rachome average guard. "It's right there on your uniform," he replied with a faint smirk.

Ohhh right, the guard responded.

"If you don't mind, I'm about to wet myself. Any chance you can help me find the bathroom?" Akhaqia asked, his tone light but desperate.

Shiriaru pointed toward the restroom with a faint sigh. God knows he doesn't get paid enough for this.

Akhaqia, twirling his finger nervously, added, "Well... could you walk me there? You see, I got into this situation because of some bad directions, and I'd really like to make sure I end up in the right place this time. pointing at himself, this troublesome guest, Wouldn't want to wander somewhere I'm not supposed to be." He said, offering a sheepish grin.

The man sighed heavily, clearly annoyed, but relented. "Fine. Come on."

He led the way toward the bathroom, with Akhaqia following close behind, his mind already working on the next step of the plan.

The moment the guard turned his back, Akhaqia's faint smirk returned. He cast a subtle glance back at Adinim and Huia, signaling them to proceed. They moved silently, Adinim clutching his spear tightly, while Huia's hands trembled slightly as he adjusted the straps of his satchel. The tension in the air was palpable.

Once the guard and Akhaqia were out of earshot, Adinim whispered, "We don't have much time. Let's find the manifest or anything indicating the location of our target."

Huia nodded, his gaze darting nervously around the compartment. He began rummaging through crates, careful to avoid making noise. Adinim stood as a sentinel, his ears straining for any signs of approaching guards.

Moments later, Huia hissed softly, "I think I might have found something." He pulled out a thick ledger from a metal chest, its leather cover embossed with the Alfheim Empire's crest. Flipping through its pages, Huia scanned the entries, his brow furrowed, and he was confused because the ledger was blank.
