Gamers Are Fierce

Chapter 417: Mother

He looked at Nelson coldly, adjusting his sitting position.

Nelson's question was highly ambiguous.

"This world" could refer to reality, to the Shengnan King's Dream, or to both reality and the Shengnan King's Dream.

If it referred to the Shengnan King's Dream, there were two possible interpretations.

It could mean Miss Chai, who was with him now, or Wang Congshan, who had taken the Blessed Spring Water.

Logically speaking, Wang Congshan, having returned to a normal state, should not enter the Shengnan King's Dream. However, if she did, then Nelson was currently threatening him.

Li Ang couldn't take the risk. He couldn't just quit the mission and break into the stronghold to check if Wang Congshan had been dragged into the dream. If Wang Congshan truly had entered, he wouldn't be able to re-enter the dream himself.

Li Ang's brain worked furiously, his expression as cold as ice.

He couldn't be sure if Nelson's words were a coincidence, a hint, or a threat.

"Yes."

Li Ang said directly.

The green light came on, and without waiting for the audience to react, Nelson quickly pulled out a card and said with a smile, "Is a member of the opposite sex toward whom you have favorable feelings present in this house?"

Li Ang looked at him coldly, his breathing even and unflustered. "Yes."

A murmur of surprise arose from the audience. The shocked spectators looked at one another, as if trying to identify that person among themselves.

Nelson looked playfully at Li Ang's expressionless face and slowly said, "When you answered the previous question, did you want to kill me and all the audience in the studio?"

"Yes."

"TSK, TSK, TSK."

Nelson clicked his tongue, remarking, "The young ones are so full of hostility, always so quick to resort to violence. So, please listen to the next question. Which do you prefer, cats or dogs?"

Huh?

Li Ang raised an eyebrow. There seemed to be quite a leap between these two questions.

"Cats."

As someone who enjoyed 'cloud-cuddling' cats, Li Ang used to frequently browse cat videos online. Sometimes Wang Congshan would even send him cat video links from Bilibili, and they would laugh together while 'cloud-cuddling' cats.

"Then, what's your favorite color?"

"Blue."

"What's your favorite vegetable to eat?"

"Cilantro."

"What's your monthly income from part-time work usually?"

"Around four or five thousand."

"When do you plan to get married?"

"It used to be at twenty-five or twenty-six. Now it's hard to say."

"Have you thought about whether you want children after marriage?"

"I haven't thought about this issue yet."

Nelson asked a slew of meaningless questions in rapid succession, causing Li Ang to inquire, "Are you a matchmaker from a marriage agency? Such specific questions—are you offering one minute of registration for a lifetime of happiness, one-on-one service from Hong Niang, accurately pinpointing love?"

A burst of laughter arose from the audience, and Nelson raised his hands helplessly, saying, "I don't want to ask either, but it's what's printed on the cards."

He sighed, muttering, "I swear, if the next question is still boring, I will definitely go kick the asses of those who wrote the script."

With that said, Nelson drew another card, and his eyes lit up when he saw the content.

"At some point in your life, did you ever harbor a sense of world-weariness so severe that you thought about ending your own life?"

"Yes."

"After harboring this sense of world-weariness, was it a desire for revenge that kept you going and continually drove you to learn new skills?"

Finally, it arrived.

Li Ang sighed deeply in his heart and calmly said, "Yes."

"Before you obtained your extraordinary powers, did you involve yourself in cases of murder?"

"Yes."

"Did you disguise those cases that you committed before obtaining your extraordinary powers as accidents in order to evade capture and trial?"

"Yes."

"Did the victims in those cases elicit even the slightest bit of sympathy from you?"

"No."

"Did you feel the slightest bit of shame for the cases you had committed?"

"No."

"Those people you killed before you obtained your extraordinary powers, were they your nominal relatives?"

"..."

Li Ang fell into a brief silence.

He sat upright in his chair, head bowed, hands crossed under his chin, as if deep in thought.

Miss Chai unconsciously held her breath. At this moment, she desperately wanted to crawl into the soul banner and turn a deaf ear to the outside world.

"Yes."

Li Ang's voice was weak but clear.

Gasps of shock emanated from the audience. Yet, Nelson didn't allow any pause in the show, swiftly pulling out another card and reading it quickly.

"The woman you call mother, is she still alive?"

"..."

Li Ang slowly raised his head, looking at Nelson, and said with a smile, "You know this is the second-to-last question, right? After two more, I'll have passed."

"I know."

Nelson maintained his amiable smile. "Just as I've introduced, if you achieve victory in the Truth Moment game, not only will I let you through this house, but I'll also directly present you with the gift you most desire right now."

Li Ang indifferently asked, "Is this gift a person, or an object?"

"I can't say."

Nelson wobbled as he spoke. "It's the House of Integrity that decides what gift to give, not me. After all, I am just an ordinary butler and show host, with no right to dictate to the House of Integrity. Considering lies are not permitted within the House of Integrity, you can trust what I've said."

Li Ang shook his head, not rushing to respond. He thought softly, Chaichai...

"Yes, I'm here."

Miss Chai hastily replied.

"..."

Li Ang fell silent for a while. Eventually, he decided not to say anything to Chai Cuiqiao.

He lifted his head and looked towards Nelson, calmly stating, "She's still alive."

"So,"

Nelson glanced at the card and asked, "Do you plan to kill the woman you call 'mother' in the future?"

...

Li Ang grinned, his fingers lightly tapping the armrest of his chair. It was as if a switch had been flipped; he became composed and unruffled.

Miss Chai, hidden within him, saw Li Ang's smiling face and felt an impulse to shiver all over.

She swore it was the first time she had seen Li Ang with such an expression.

A pure, unrestrained, genuinely happy smile.

This smile instilled a profound terror in Chai Cuiqiao, as if she could see the true face Li Ang hid beneath his human skin.

Li Ang nodded. "Yes. The sole purpose that has sustained me thus far is to kill that woman I call 'mother' in the future."
