Game World's Awakening

Chapter 192: Magic

During that week, Elliot wandered around the city, doing different things and trying to strengthen his presence among the Misfits.

The latter was much easier than he thought. All his movements and those of Ilsen had prevented the Clark Family from moving freely. They were at a point where the Misfits were the least of their concerns right now.

They even had to put several missions on hold that they had planned for these days, simply because they couldn't carry them out while they were being robbed in masse by unknown individuals.

However, thanks to their many men, they had tracked Ilsen Ann a little, so they were watching out for him.

But they still had no idea who the other one was, which was normal, because Elliot wasn't using his body to attack. He was just using his summons, and when he realized it was dangerous, he dissolved them into energy to bring them back to him.

If you can't see the energy of attributes, you won't be able to do anything or notice anything.

That's why they were clueless about who the other attacker could be.

It reached the point where Elliot even managed to get his summons into Alexander's room and other private places, where he listened to calls and looked at private documents that would be useful to him.

They needed evidence against those guys, and they were just getting it.

Now, during this week, more precisely, on Thursday, February 6, one day before the tournament, Elliot discovered something ridiculous but amazing.

In a training room, where Jenna and Elliot were watching the magical battles between the trainers as they were teaching them how to fight various types of magicians, Jenna suddenly looked to her side in shock.

"E-Elliot," she said. "W-what was that?" she asked, stunned.

Elliot was just as stunned.

Everyone in the room had stopped, completely stunned by what they had just seen.

Elliot moved his hand slightly and then looked at the book before him. There was an explanation of a spell.

He had been reading and trying to understand it for over two hours, when, at some point and unexpectedly... He cast that spell with his hands!

So he looked at his hands again.

"I cast a spell, didn't I?" he muttered.

Without hesitation, he tried to do it again.

The magic was basic. A very simple fireball shouldn't even meet the requirements to be a fireball. But it was magic.

One that he shouldn't be able to cast.

So he stared at that magic again and tried to follow the steps listed in the book, which had also been listed by his teachers a short while ago.

There are several principles that govern magic in this world. Almost all magic usually comes from abilities, but there are elemental magics and other types of magics that can be learned—well, Soul Mages and Illusionists can learn them.

No one else should be able to... perhaps with a few exceptions, such as a magical archer or something similar, but it is not common.

Now, these elemental magics that can be "learned" by very few people are governed by three fundamental principles for their formulation:

Mental Power, to transmit your intention through the energy of attributes (your inner strength).

Creation of the Magical Pattern (through the intention of Mental Power).

And finally, Imagination. This last principle is what gives Soul Mages and Illusion Mages their name as "Imaginers."

It is very important, and its principle is based on the idea that you must imagine the magic you want to cast so that it takes shape in the way you want.

Given these three principles for the formulation of magic and thanks to the laws of the System, only Illusion Mages and Soul Mages should be able to cast them, because they are the only ones with enough centralized Sense power to do so.

The mental power to transmit your intention through the energy of attributes needs to be very dense, and mental power is generally not that dense, even if there is a lot of it.

That is why powerful gods in any other magical category cannot cast magic. They have a lot of mental power, but it is not as dense as this density only tends to form in those who are attuned to it.

They need to have a single attribute for it to be affirmed in this way; that is the final theory that researchers arrived at.

Under no circumstances should a summoner be able to cast them. Although it is possible that there may have been some who were capable, there are not many in the world, and most of them are dead now.

Although Elliot had not studied these three principles much, he understood them easily.

That's why he thought: It's not that difficult, is it?

'It shouldn't be that difficult, if I look at it that way...' He thought, staring at the paper with the instructions.

Just then...

His face lit up with a fireball that he created in his hands. He suddenly looked down to see it and was stunned.

It was there, resting quietly in his hand, floating above a Magic Pattern.

"Huh?"

"Really?!"

The screams around him startled him, causing the fireball to disperse again.

One of his teachers came to him immediately.

"A-a-although it's not strong..." He stammered. "But it's magic. It's a fireball. Y-y-you..."

Although he found it difficult to form his words into a sentence, he soon shouted, "What the hell are you?!"

To tell the truth, Elliot was wondering exactly the same thing.

What the hell was he?

A summoner whom the Just Law does not restrict. He can raise all his stats as he pleases, because none are worse than the others.

He can grow at a ridiculous speed, a superior being in many ways. But now he is also a magician?

What the hell is that? Is he perhaps the incarnation of the True God of the oldest legends on earth, who appears in all races?

He couldn't get an answer to this question. But he could feel...

Danger sniffing at his neck.

'Shit. I hope no one here is a traitor...' He thought.

Even so, he smiled and made an excuse.

"I think it's because of this," he said, taking out one of the magical treasures he had stolen from the House of Fire when he went to Agora.

It was made of fire, a magical book like the one he had taken from the chimera, but much more advanced.

"A monster gave it to me recently... maybe there's something like that inside," he said.

The teachers raised their eyebrows in surprise.

"Could that be possible?" they thought, looking at the book. It was burning, but it couldn't be opened.

"Can't you see inside it?"

"No." Elliot shook his head. "I've never been able to open it."

That made it more complicated. They didn't believe such an item existed, but if they couldn't see its contents, then it could be possible, couldn't it? The system has strange treasures, and one capable of doing that may exist.

Even so, this is something that must be reported.

Elliot knew they weren't going to keep quiet, but his excuse was already given. When they told Steward, he would understand his motives. And the thing is, now, if they were traitors, they wouldn't go and tell the outside world first because Elliot had planted the seed of doubt.

Well, he thought it might be like that.

But that was the least of it. As long as Steward was the first to know and understand his suspicions, he could do something to prevent leaks.

He then spoke. "All right, teachers. Ignore this. Let's get back to the topic at hand. Tomorrow is game day."

The teachers smiled. "I think that's all, anyway. If you follow those guidelines, the Soul Mages of Zargo won't be so complicated. Remember that we now have outdoor fights. We can't rely on an arena, so we must be careful from now on." They spoke.

Elliot nodded. Outdoor battles were something that used to happen occasionally between tournaments. Depending on the system's designs, some battles could take place in forests, giant open fields, or even deserts.

In fact, once, in a battle in higher tournaments, powerful sea monsters were alerted because the System had them battle at sea.

And this time, the two remaining battles would take place in open fields, one in a forest (the next one) and the other in the mountains (the final one).

"All right, teachers. Thank you for your teachings." Elliot and Jenna excused themselves after this and returned to Elliot's apartment.

"That wasn't that treasure, was it? You can cast magic," she said, sitting beside him as they looked at the sunny sky.

He smiled. "Surprised?" he asked.

She laughed. "Not at all," she said.

"You're talented enough to do it. I'd like to learn magic too, but I only have an affinity for Dark Magic. There are no grimoires for that magic here."

"When we go to the Runic Kingdom, I'm sure we'll be able to find grimoires about it. So you'll be able to learn too."

"Haha... I hope so. I want to see the Runes."

"Are you curious about them?"

"Quite. Aren't you?"

"Yes. Although I'm more curious about the Treasure of Arce."

"Arce's?" She nodded. "They say it's a mirror, but no one knows where it is or what it looks like."

Elliot nodded. 'That's precisely why I'm curious to find its 17 pieces.' He smiled.
