Chapter 35: 35. Good things to share with friends
However, Jason Liu had his own plans, and he couldn't explain his true intentions to Old Rhodes.
So, he took on the authority of a nobleman and insisted on it.
Old Rhodes had no choice but to agree.
Of course, this turned out to be good for him too, as the money from Lord East would allow him to make a nice profit.
Before long, Bud arrived with his parents, Dillion and Vamida, from a nearby village, and Susan also came with her parents, Hogg and Shula.
These two farmer couples greeted Jason Liu with respect.
Since Jason had previously said he didn't like people kneeling before him, they simply bowed deeply.
"Dillion, Vamida, Hogg, and Shula, I want to hire you to help Old Rhodes and his family cook for the house workers. There might be other chores too. I'll pay each of you 10 silver deer. Are you interested?" Jason Liu stated clearly.
When they heard about the payment, the four of them happily agreed, feeling that Jason Liu was their good luck.
Seeing that they accepted, Jason asked Lena to bring 100 silver deer and handed it to Old Rhodes to buy food for the workers. Once work began, meals would be served.
Then, Jason asked Martha to take Dillion, Vamida, Hogg, and Shula to find more helpers from the nearby villages.
Jason Liu had one condition: hire as many people as possible, but only one person from each family, so more households could benefit.
With Jason's clear instructions, plus the offer of a good salary of 20 bronze stars per day and three meals a day, hundreds of people came looking for work.
Martha carefully followed Jason's instructions and chose strong people, recruiting only one person per family to help out.
By that afternoon, and even into the evening, a total of 248 people were recruited.
Martha felt a bit nervous, thinking this number was too high.
But Jason Liu didn't mind. He believed that with more people, the work would be finished faster. In this era, more hands were always needed for building work, like moving stones or digging earth.
The helpers were ready, and the masons had also brought their tools, set to start work the next day.
The masons formed what Jason called a "technical team" to handle the construction.
Although the masons didn't quite understand the term, they didn't mind as long as the nobleman was happy.
The next day, everyone got to work.
The five wooden houses were torn down by the workers.
After the houses fell, hundreds of people rushed in, moved the logs to one side, and cleared the area.
Since Jason Liu was building a new place, he moved into Lena and Martha's house temporarily.
Initially, he wanted to build a new place for them too, but Martha refused.
The guards, who had nothing else to do, helped with the construction work.
Business activities also moved to Martha's house, and Lena was busy along with Susan, Venisa, and Bella.
Lately, only small traders came to buy, and the quantities were small, so it was manageable.
Jason Liu acted as the supervisor at the construction site, talking to the craftsmen and giving them instructions.
Meanwhile, at Winterfell, in the small courtyard belonging to Vayon Poole, the Director of Winterfell, who had served the Stark family for nearly thirty years and earned Duke Eddard Stark's trust, enjoyed some quiet time with his family after dinner.
Vayon's daughter, Jeyne Poole, served as Lady Sansa Stark's maid and close friend. The two girls, being of the same age, shared a strong bond.
Jeyne, who was 12 years old with long black hair and a few freckles on her nose, noticed some white blocks on the table and asked curiously, "What are these, Father?"
Vayon glanced at her and replied casually, "It's called soap. It was a gift from a foreign nobleman from the far East in the market town. It's supposed to clean oil from your body and clothes, but I haven't tried it yet."
Jeyne's mother, who had used it earlier, praised it, "It's amazing! I used it today to wash clothes, and the stains came off easily. It even cleaned the oil from my hands, leaving them feeling fresh and not greasy."
"Really?" Jeyne's interest grew. "I want to try it too."
Following her mother's guidance, Jeyne wet her hands, rubbed some soap, and white foam appeared. After rinsing, her hands were clean and smelled pleasant.
"Wow!" Jeyne exclaimed in delight. "My hands are clean and smell so good!"
Her mother smiled and added, "You can use it for bathing too. I'll try it tonight."
"Me too!" Jeyne agreed happily.
That evening, Jeyne and her mother bathed with the soap, and both felt incredibly clean and fresh.
The next day, Jeyne, excited about the discovery, took a bar of soap to share with her friend, Lady Sansa, believing she would love it too.
