Game of Dragonborn.

Chapter 135 - Why Everyone Should Fear a Targaryen and Their Dragon.

[Chapter Size: 2100 Words.]

Third Person POV.

North.

...

...

It was night when the men stationed at Dreadfort were quietly guarding the castle, but alert, for they knew the threat in the south—such as House Stark and its allies possibly forming an alliance with Stannis Baratheon's forces—was gathering against House Bolton.

Ramsay Snow was leading the armies in the name of Roose Bolton, while he had departed for Winterfell along with the prisoner Theon Greyjoy to try to retake Moat Cailin from the ironborn and help Lord Bolton return to the north.

There was also information that Robb Stark might be coming north, and the Bolton and Frey troops, along with their allies who were heading north, seemed divided between moving before Lord Stark and King Stannis could form a definitive alliance, or seeking Robb in hopes of capturing a valuable hostage.

Meanwhile, there were also enemies to the north, with a full-grown dragon and over 180,000 wildlings who had brought down the Wall and were now settling in the lands below it, led by the one who calls himself Daemon Targaryen and heir to the Iron Throne.

Despite this, from what they knew, their lord Bolton was trying to enter an alliance, almost certain it would succeed, to fight the Starks due to the resentment the Targaryen had shown toward his mother's family—or at least to use them initially, before destroying them.

But what they did not know was the terror that would fall upon them all that night.

While Jon was already flying more than three thousand meters above Dreadfort, under a moonless sky, he made no effort to create a storm to hide his presence. This time, he wanted to make very clear what was about to happen there that night.

With just a thought, Winter quickly understood her master's command.

Then, her roar came the next moment, furious as she opened her mouth, sounding like thunder in the sky, heard for miles around—perhaps even as far as Winterfell.

The echo of her monstrous sound roared powerfully in the sky. It didn't take long for the people below to panic—both in Dreadfort and nearby villages—as no one understood what it meant or where that terrifying roar was coming from.

"Let's go," Jon said in the Old Tongue, as the dragon launched herself downward. The announcement of his arrival had already come, and with it, the prelude of death and destruction.

The dragon dove quickly, gaining momentum. She descended for several minutes, roaring once again. He could already see the despair of the men on the walls, beginning to flee. They didn't even dare to aim their bows; all they wanted was to run from there, not even the troop commander able to control the fear of his men as they already saw the white creature descending toward them, its enormous size becoming clearer with each second.

It was at that moment that Winter spread her wings, began to slow down, and quickly glided before starting to unleash her flames upon the castle.

The entire air became dry and freezing. Her white flames struck the walls, breaking and freezing them instantly.

With another roar, she returned, charging the castle once more, passing through it, while the stones of the old red kings were devastated by the white stream coming from the dragon's mouth, breaking and freezing everything.

Anyone who was there was killed — whether by the flames, the destruction caused, or even by the air itself, which immediately triggered an attack on their lungs, suffocating anyone who was near the flames and the freezing.

People who had nothing to do with the conflict would die there. But this was war. Jon needed to bring that castle down. He already had plans for House Bolton and their lands. Obviously, they would be destroyed, and another house would rise in their place. For that, he wouldn't make use of that castle, because he needed an example.

People in the distance could only watch the scene of terror and white flames, while some even managed to escape by jumping off the walls or opening the gate, shortly after the guards, in desperation, succeeded. The dragon kept returning several times after circling, as it launched its flames, and the castle began to collapse little by little amid shards of ice.

It all took no more than three hours. Dreadfort no longer existed, becoming just a pile of frozen stones. Its reinforced walls fell easily, pushed by the flames. Everyone who saw the destruction of the castle would remember for the rest of their lives how a dragon acts.

They would understand why Torrhen Stark bent the knee to Aegon the Conqueror.

Winter returned north shortly after, leaving her destruction as a message of what a dragon is capable of.

Before dawn, Jon was already back at the camp, landing his dragon outside and heading into the camp, while a few men still awake greeted him, asking about his journey.

He went to his tent, knowing his uncle was with his cousins, sharing the other tent.

He entered his own, finding his wives asleep, with Val waking up as she sensed someone entering. Of course, their wolves were guarding the place, but Jon would easily pass through them — he was their master.

He went up to a raven that was sleeping on a perch in the corner of the tent, waking up as he approached. It was the raven he had left with Lyanna Mormont, a bird meant exclusively for a direct message, specifying clearly when she should send it.

That meant more ironborn were arriving at Bear Island.

He greeted Val with a small smile as she looked at him, but turned his attention back to the bird as he took the letter still tied to its feet. His wives didn't stir.

He opened the scroll and sighed as he read it.

Jon then went to bed, where Daenerys was also sleeping. It wasn't the time to rest, and he would invite his aunt for a ride.

He went to her side, slapped Daenerys on the butt, and she jumped, while the others shifted at the sudden movement, looking at him sleepily.

"Jon?!" Daenerys murmured.

"You just want to come with me?" he asked.

"Go where, Jon?" she murmured again, drowsily.

"Want to fly with me on Winter? We have to destroy five ships on the coast of Bear Island, I thought you might want to come along," Jon informed her.

And upon realizing it meant flying with a dragon, she immediately seemed to shake off all her sleep.

"Of course, Jon. When can we do that?" she asked.

"Now. Let's eat something. We'll be flying to the Islands," he said, while the other girls went back to sleep.

Daenerys got up and threw something on over her nightgown while Jon ate something quickly, then took her to Winter once more before the sky even began to glow with the rising sun.

"I'll need you once again. We're going to fly," he said to the she-dragon.

The dragon snorted, but didn't complain. Jon climbed onto Winter with Daenerys.

Winter spread her wings and immediately shot into the sky. It would be the first time she would take his aunt into real combat on dragonback. It wasn't something particularly dangerous beyond destroying a few ships, so Daenerys would be safe.

They flew westward, passing along the coast where the seized ships were being guarded by the free folk, and continued out to sea.

There were three ships in the middle of the sea and two near the beach where Winter had devastated the ironborn who were pillaging the island. They had probably come to find out what had happened after the disappearance of thousands of men.

Capturing the ships wouldn't be easy this time — after all, if Jon tried to approach with his men on other ships, the enemies would flee. Even attempting to catch them by surprise, he decided instead to destroy them.

He started with the men on the beach who, at sunrise, after seeing the encampment and finding the place full of corpses, wanted to leave, realizing it had been the wildlings who had crossed the Wall and done that.

Ice was still stuck to many parts of the island, especially the beach, with the climate there changed due to it not having fully melted, even after a week.

They barely had time to react before Winter was already upon them, simply breathing white flames, while the men's screams were cut short, dying instantly from the impact of the subzero temperatures.

Winter targeted the ships as well, devastating two with a single breath of flame. The fire spread across the hulls, destroying them completely. As they were burned, they simultaneously froze like popsicles.

In an instant, only a few ironborn who hadn't been in the camp managed to survive, while those out at sea tried to flee immediately. But how could they escape a dragon, trapped on a ship?

Winter simply turned back toward them, charging swiftly. She devastated them easily, while the men, realizing there was no escape, tried to jump into the water before Winter could reach them.

But her ice instantly changed the temperature of the sea, suffocating the men easily as it created ice everywhere. They weren't used to such temperatures, not even there in the North. The thermal shock was deadly, and no one survived.

Jon continued scanning to ensure no one remained alive in the sea and headed for the island, while Daenerys had taken part in it all, now hoping she would have a dragon of her own someday, since Winter could lay eggs.

And Jon seemed to be thinking about a few things.

"That was easy and pretty terrifying... But this is what it feels like to be on a dragon ready for battle," she commented, fascinated by the experience as Jon steered Winter to destroy all their enemies.

"Yeah... It's easy to see how Aegon, with just three dragons, managed to conquer all the kingdoms—except Dorne," Jon said, before beginning to descend the dragon, landing in front of the Mormont stronghold walls, his landing sending a thud through the earth as the men on the walls looked down, terrified.

"All the ironborn ships have been destroyed, but some men survived by fleeing and are still on the island. I'll leave them to you. I'm heading out. I'm expecting reinforcements from House Mormont. Farewell."

With those direct words, Jon simply had Winter flap her wings and shoot into the sky as they flew back to the mainland.

"Jon..." Daenerys murmured in front of him with a more seductive tone, while Jon could feel her rubbing her body against his. "How about... we stop for a bit... You know how hard it is to get any time alone with you." She commented, and Jon gave a smile.

He steered the dragon toward somewhere along the western coast, spending some time there before returning to the camp.

Up to that moment, Jon had used his dragon twice, and people throughout the North began receiving his letters, informing them of his latest message.

Each lord and specific person to whom he had sent a letter began receiving their ravens, both in the raven cages of their maesters in the castles and directly to the people and the designated recipient.

After Lord Umber, being the first, the letter also arrived at the seat of House Karstark, continuing on to all the northern nobles.

Lord Manderly quickly received the message and rushed to Lord Stark, who was in a meeting with King Stannis Baratheon, delivering the letter Jon had written.

At the same time, Ramsay Snow received his letter in Winterfell, surprised to see the raven come straight to him and deliver it. Beside him was a trembling man — the former Theon Greyjoy — after having been tortured for weeks.

In the west, near Winterfell, an ironborn camp also received a raven. Asha was eating with her men around the fire that morning when she looked up, stunned, watching the raven land in front of her with a letter tied to its feet, staring directly at her, making it clear it belonged to her and her alone.

Other ravens also flew further south.

Thus, indirectly, all the houses of the North would already be aware of Jon's first reply to the Kingdom of the North — each reacting differently as they received the news, unaware that Dreadfort no longer existed at that moment, even though Jon had already specified that in the letter.
