Chapter 305: Neal Desmond

PoV Duchess Beverly Greenwald

"FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK!" I snapped back in our tent, a large distance away from the negotiating table. Soldiers marked the front and around my tent, which was perfectly soundproof with enchantments. I smashed the table into splinters, and my rage was burning brightly. My foot came down on the wood again and again. It was an expensive table purchased from craftsmen in the Kingdom of Arlin, and I couldn't care less. I smashed it into even more bits with my body, letting my rage burn.

Something was wrong with all of this, and my rage continued to burn because of it. I felt so stupid again and again. I was just clearly giving them everything they wanted. It was like they had already set the terms, and I was just negotiating my way to them. It was infuriating, rage-inducing, and I was fucking pissed!

"That little fucking rabbit bitch has us fucking running by our fucking noses," I snapped snarling at the officer trying to look invisible as I raged. "She knows what we fucking want, why we want it and has a fucking agenda of her own!" I roared, "I am fucking fighting deaf blind and dumb with no fucking intelligence. What the fuck are our spies doing and why are these fucking bunny bitches fucking acting like all the intel I do have is fucking wrong! They want to go to war! They want this fight to continue, THEN WHAT THE FUCK ARE THEY WAITING FOR!" I snapped mana entering my breath, and I breathed out a little fire with smoke coming up and took a deep breath.

"Maybe there is something political happening in the background?" An Officer suddenly spoke up, and I turned on him and raised an eyebrow.

"Why do you think that?" I asked.

"Well, there are over a dozen Tribes in the Beast-kin Nation. I thought the Dragonic were the leading race of the Beast-kin nation. Why is their War chief staying on the sidelines, letting a Bunny-kin talk? You know the Second-Ranked Species?" The unknown officer said, and something in my mind clicked.

Cool air blew through my head, calming my mind. I thought about it, and I started to nod. "They are delaying not for us, not because they want to attack, but something back home. They want the soldiers here," I said, my voice dark. So they are delaying the Peace treaty to give them an excuse for back home." I frowned, though, thinking that something was wrong.

"Duchess," The Unknown soldier said, "I think they are taking negotiations with us for granted." They paused, and I turned my attention to them. "Their Barbarian army would be more than happy to continue to march forward if our Spy reports are accurate," he said, holding up notes from the spies. "What I am thinking is that there might be a power play going on with the Bunny-kin."

"Your name," I asked my voice flat.

"Officer Neal Desmond, Duchess," He said, saluting, and I nodded.

"Desmond, the noble family, the Desmonds?" I asked.

"Yes, Ma'am. I am a branch family member. We were kicked out of the main family, but the military does not care for Noble titles," Neal replied, and I nodded.

"Good, I will remember you when it comes to rebuilding," I turned to my attendant, "Make note of Neal and his words, I happen to agree with them. It is too much thinking that the Bunny-kin are in charge of negotiations. They are the weaker species, supposedly. The Wild Magic of the Dragonic is powerful but also temperamental, based on the user. It still does not change that they should be the powerhouse. The leaders of this war effort," I frowned. There was so much missing.

Then I remembered—the Elite Army.

That Bunny-kin was the Supreme Commander. "Get me all the information on the Elite Army of the Beast-kin nation. When did this start? When did they start building a second army? I need answers related to that Bunny-kin!" I snapped, and everyone went to work.

I finally felt like I was leaving this rage. Something was happening on the other side. Their actions did not make sense. If they wanted to attack, they should have while we were moving. We left supplies behind, and unless they were suddenly more open about logistics, barbarian armies plundered their food. If that was not happening, maybe that was the reason they were not moving forward. Their supply lines were long. The River might shorten them, but the river did not extend to the Beast-kin nation.

Something fishy was going on, and ever since Officer Neal said it, I felt like I was no longer in a fog. It was like a question that I did not know I needed to ask, but it was answered. Maybe this negotiation has nothing to do with us, which means we were being used. If that was true, then maybe I could get more than I was hoping for with my negotiations. I wonder if I could talk to that Supreme Commander with a chaperone on her side. Someone who can ensure I am not convincing her through something so that she can negotiate with the true power players.

She is someone, Chelsea Loveknot. If I remember correctly, "Get me information on the Loveknot name!" I snapped, and instantly, one of the officers stood.

"Duchess, the Loveknots are the controlling family of the Sivermoon Tower. The leader of the Elder Council is the Loveknots, and those who inherit the leadership position of the Wizard tower are the Loveknots. They are known for their distinct Silver hair and tend to be highly educated and talented with the backing of the Bunny-kin Tribe!" The Officer reported, and my eyes narrowed.

"What about that Elite Army!" I snapped.

"Nothing that I remember, ma'am. There are reports, I have found, about the Elite army among the recent Spy reports, but nothing much older than a year, Duchess!"

"It is either a new organization or a relatively new one, albeit with well-protected information. That meant that they did not have the history. So," My mind blanked and I sighed. "There is not enough information," I sighed again. My mind was cooler now, and I decided, "Continue to gather all our information on the Elite Army and anything to do with Chelsea Loveknot. Something tells me she is more powerful than we all think. Maybe she will be the key to getting us everything we want in this negotiation. Now, I am going to report to the Emperor," I finished, and a frown appeared on my face, not liking how this conversation was going to go.
