Chapter 1025: The Evidence

“Fine.” Ye Leng’an stepped aside, a smirk playing on her lips. “If you think I’m wasting your time, I won’t hold you up. Go ahead, leave.”
Murong Yumeng breathed a sigh of relief, ready to walk away, when she heard Ye Leng’an’s voice behind her.
“Since you’re not up for a chat,” Ye Leng’an said in a cool tone, “I guess we’ll have to pay a visit to Master Murong. I’m sure he’ll have a moment to spare, don’t you think?”
Those words froze Murong Yumeng in her tracks. She turned back, a hint of anger in her voice. “Ye Leng’an, what’s your game? I’ve already told you, I had nothing to do with Zhou Cui’an.”
She hadn’t expected Ye Leng’an to be so stubborn. She wanted to leave, but she feared Ye Leng’an might actually go to her father and stir up trouble.
If it was just Ye Leng’an, she wouldn’t care. But behind her stood Huangfu Ruiling, head of the Huangfu family. Her father would take their words seriously.
At home, she was already the black sheep. If her father found out she’d offended Huangfu Ruiling and Ye Leng’an, her position in the family would plummet.
“Murong Yumeng, let’s cut the crap.” Ye Leng’an leaned casually against the wall, a smirk playing on her lips. “You know exactly what you did. Without your little push, Zhou Cui’an wouldn’t have caused all that trouble. You think you can just walk away from this?”
“What evidence do you have?” Murong Yumeng clenched her teeth, glaring at Ye Leng’an with hatred in her eyes. “This is all baseless.”
True, she didn’t have to be afraid. Ye Leng’an had no evidence. She had indeed egged on Zhou Cui’an, but no one could prove it. Not even Zhou Cui’an knew that. So, she had nothing to fear.
She tried to reassure herself, but a wave of panic still washed over her.
“Evidence?” Ye Leng’an nodded. “You’re right, I don’t have any.”
Murong Yumeng breathed a sigh of relief. But Ye Leng’an’s next words made her heart race.
“But I don’t need evidence. If I believe it, that’s all that matters.” Ye Leng’an’s smile turned devilish. “Murong Yumeng, you’re from a wealthy family. You know how it works.”
After hearing Ye Leng’an’s words, Murong Yumeng’s anger flared up. She spun around and stormed towards Ye Leng’an, gritting her teeth as she spoke, “Ye Leng’an, how dare you stoop so low? Are you trying to frame me?”
“I really don’t have evidence.” Ye Leng’an remained composed compared to Murong Yumeng. She offered a faint smile. “But your actions speak for themselves, don’t they? The word ‘frame’ doesn’t apply here.”
“You…” If they weren’t at school, and if Ye Leng’an wasn’t engaged to Huangfu Ruiling, Murong Yumeng would’ve attacked her right then and there. “What exactly are you after, Ye Leng’an? Are you trying to drive me to suicide?” Murong Yumeng’s eyes flashed with anger.
“It’s not that serious.” Ye Leng’an shrugged, nonchalant. “Besides, I don’t think you’d throw your life away over something trivial. If you choose to do so, it’s your call. I respect your choice.”
Seeing Ye Leng’an’s calm demeanor, Murong Yumeng had an urge to scratch her face. But she knew she was no match for Ye Leng’an.
“Ye Leng’an, why are you here?” Murong Yumeng stared at Ye Leng’an, bewildered. “You’re not just here for a casual chat, are you? What do you want from me? Spit it out! No need for these threats.”
Murong Yumeng felt trapped, with no other option in sight. Sure, she could take a gamble. She could bank on Ye Leng’an bluffing, on her father not believing a word of it, and on coming out unscathed. But the reality was grim. She couldn’t afford to roll the dice.
If Ye Leng’an did go to her father with these accusations, he wouldn’t hesitate to turn his back on her.
Her status in the family was precarious at best. If her father caught wind of her clash with the Huangfu family, her future would darken considerably. Despite being his biological daughter, she knew she held no special place in her father’s heart.
If she had, she wouldn’t have been shut out of Huangfu Ruiling’s world, and she wouldn’t have caused all this chaos.
“Senior Sister Murong, I’m not naive. I see right through your intentions.” Ye Leng’an’s smile disappeared, and she adopted a cold expression. “All these schemes you’ve cooked up, it’s clear you’re after my man. That’s not sitting well with me.”
Murong Yumeng paled at Ye Leng’an’s accusation, attempting to explain herself, but she was cut off.
“Don’t bother explaining,” Ye Leng’an interjected sharply, her hand raised to silence her. “Save your excuses. They won’t sway me. In fact, they’ll only disgust me more.”
Murong Yumeng’s embarrassment was evident as her face flushed with shame.
“In truth, I didn’t come here for anything pressing,” Ye Leng’an continued, fixing her gaze on her. “Murong Yumeng, you’re not getting any younger. It’s about time you settled down.”
“What are you implying?” Murong Yumeng’s tone turned defensive. “Ye Leng’an, don’t you dare overstep.”
She wasn’t sure what Ye Leng’an was getting at, but she wouldn’t stand for any interference in her marital affairs. Even if Huangfu Ruiling wasn’t an option, she wouldn’t settle for just anyone.
