________

The rays of sunlight slipped through the faint curtain, illuminating the cozy world of the couple inside. Dust motes floated lazily in the sunbeams, undisturbed by the quiet.

The air was crisp but the warmth shared between their bodies under the blanket was enough to ward the chilling air away.

A faint rustling sound broke the stillness of their world, Makima stirred and shifted ever so lightly, the weight of her body pressed against Veilhem unconsciously.

He watched her with an amused gaze and a smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth. Being an undead, he didn't require sleep or rest, but he was a gentleman as he didn't want to wake up the lovely lady who had shared the previous night with him.

Though it was somewhat difficult for him too, as she clung to him a bit too much. It was as though she didn't want to leave his side at all. He found it impossible not to pamper this cute side of her as he gently patted her hair.

But it turned out to be a mistake on his part as she let out a soft groan, almost like a purr, nuzzling against his palm. He pulled his hand away and she immediately frowned even in her sleep.

She blinked awake slowly, her mind was still in a groggy state with heavy sleep. But Makima's dazed eyes darted to find Veilhem. She rubbed her sleepy eyes a bit to adjust to the light.

After making sure he was there, she sprawled out on top of him, her face buried into his collarbone, her breath brushing faintly against his skin, transmitting the familiar warmth and ticklishness at his neck.

Her legs were still a bit wobbled due to last night but it didn't mean much as they entangled to his, her arms draped lightly as if he had become her pillow for a nap.

"...Morning." Veilhem murmured, his voice was deep and carried a gentle tone that sounded very pleasant in her ears.

Makima groaned softly in response, her face forming a frown as she pouted her cheek in a lazy voice. "...It's too early. Let me sleep for 5 more minutes please." Her words were muffled by the sheer displeasure of having parted with him even for a fleeting moment. However, her sultry voice made his thoughts halt for a second but he quickly regained his composure by coughing a few times.

It was too tempting!!

As if proving her unwillingness, she shifted slightly to get more comfortable but she refused to get off him.

"It's time to wake up, my lady." Veilhem said in an even tone but she could hear the pamper under the cold facade instantly, causing a corner of her to rise even though she didn't open her eyes.

Instead, she burrowed further into his neck, letting out a soft, muffled groan. "No. Too early. No morning." she mumbled, her words slurred and childishly defiant.

He chuckled, his hand moved instinctively, resting lightly against her back. She was warm under his palm, the fabric of her bare back was stimulating him as he could feel the dangerous curve of her well-proportioned body beneath his palm.

"You're not even trying to move." He teased, his fingers brushing over the small back of her.

"Too comfy," she muttered, her voice muffled against his skin. Her lips brushed the base of his neck, and he shivered slightly at the contact. "You're warm."

"You're heavy." He countered, though there was no bite to his words.

At those words, she shot him a terrifying glare and puffed up one cheek, sulking at his remarks. "That's not a nice thing to say to a lady now, Veilhem-san. Do you want a punishment?"

Feeling a little playful, Veilhem leaned closer to her ears and spoke those words while brushing her hair. "Gravity exists, my dear. Plus, the kind of punishment like last night?" He tugged the messy strand of red hair behind her ear and noticed something that brought a smile to his face.

Veilhem couldn't see her face because she buried it into his chest and he thought that since she was so confident in her usual self, she should be able to handle a little teasing from him.

However, Makima's emotions were revealed as soon as he saw the reddened ears as he combed her messy hair back. It added a stark contrast in her usual demeanor that he personally found pretty cute.

She huffed, narrowing her eyes at him, but there was no real anger there. Her lips twitched, threatening to curl into a smile despite herself. "If I'm heavy, why haven't you pushed me off yet?"

He shrugged, his grin widening. "I suppose I don't mind."

The way he said it was so casual and effortless that it made her cheeks flush. She dropped her gaze, pretending to be sulky as she tried to avert her gaze away from him, feeling the warmth creeping up her neck. "You're a playboy huh?" she muttered, though her voice was softer now, almost shy.

"Maybe." His touch lingered on her face for a moment, his thumb brushing against her temple before he let it drop.

She felt like her heart skip at the gesture, but she quickly buried her face back into his shoulder to hide the growing redness in her cheeks. "You're being unreasonable." she mumbled, though the words lacked any conviction.

"But here you are. Cuddling with me." Veilhem rolled his eyes at her childish remark.

She didn't have a retort for that, so instead, she let out a dramatic sigh and tightened her arms around him. "Fine. I'll get up…later. Maybe."

"...Fine." He said as if he had no choice but to comply, then slumped back down while occasionally stroking her smooth back. She let out a soft moan like a contented cat and snuggled into his embrace as though that was the most natural thing ever.

For all the battles and chaos that might await them later in the day, for now, he was content to stay like this—wrapped up in her warmth, in the quiet peace of the morning.
