Chapter 419: They All Have Offspring, Why Don't I?_2

Dao Meihua considered what Sun Qihai had told her, perhaps she could collaborate with Yin Li?

There was also a cafeteria at the Animal Husbandry Bureau, where others could eat as well.

However, the staff of the bureau had a meal subsidy, while others had to pay out of pocket.

"The prices at the cafeteria are really cheap, much better than cooking for yourself."

Sun Qihai took Dao Meihua to the cafeteria to get food, and while there introduced her to a few of his friends.

"Brother Sun, did you hear about the incident at the checkpoint? Someone tried to avoid inspection by taking a night route around the checkpoint, and as a result, there was a car accident. The driver and several yak calves on the truck all died."

"That severe? I hadn't heard."

"The problem is more than that. Did you know those calves were wild yaks?"

"No way? Is poaching becoming rampant again?"

"Not exactly poaching. How should I put it? I've heard people say that the second-generation blood of wild yaks is quite valuable nowadays. Those people might be capturing calves and then selling them to breeding farms to clean up the lineage and use them as breeding stock specifically for cultivating second-generation blood."

"Damn soulless people."

Although Sun Qihai was not an expert on wild yaks, he knew this behavior was almost equivalent to poaching. Mainly because if it wasn't curbed, following the Tibetan antelope, wild yaks would also become a gold mine in those people's eyes.

Carrying his meal, he returned to the emergency station. Chen Ying was still reviewing data and still held a tablet in his hands when called out for dinner. During the meal, Sun Qihai brought up the story, and Chen Ying looked up in surprise.

"People are targeting this so soon?"

Earlier, when he learned that the Animal Husbandry Bureau planned to promote the domestication of second-generation wild yaks, he had a feeling trouble might ensue.

But after all, individual power is limited; he was not able to stop the promotion.

As opposed to the official method of using domestic yaks to breed in the wild, this direct method of domesticating wild yak calves was a bit safer, and of course, the price was also not low.

Dao Meihua had been silent up until now, when she handed her phone to Chen Ying to show him.

"I asked a friend, there were eight calves in the accident. Additionally, another case of illegal hunting of wild yak calves was found, involving twelve calves in total. Six died during transport, and the remaining six were sold to several breeding farms."

Chen Ying's face darkened, anger rising.

In just half a month, fourteen calves had died because of human greed. Severe punishment was certainly due.

The person messaging Dao Meihua seemed to be involved in the case, saying that the group rode motorcycles near a remote area to deliberately startle the yak herd. Adult yaks ran fast, the slow-moving calves got left behind, and then they forcibly loaded the calves onto their vehicles to take away.

Eight people were involved in the case, and the investigation was still ongoing.

They were discussing this when they saw a comrade from the Animal Husbandry Bureau running towards them.

"Dr. Chen, the bureau has arranged to temporarily transfer six wild yak calves here. We might need your help to check the calves' health and ensure they are okay before we can arrange for their release."

"Are these six calves from that illegal hunting case?"

"Yes, have you also heard? The involved individuals have been arrested. The six calves were previously fostered in a herder's home, and now we're bringing them here for an assessment to ensure there are no issues before they can be released. It might take a month."

"I don't have a problem; just call me anytime the calves arrive."

"Alright, they should be arriving tonight. I'll go prepare the enclosure and the fodder. Thanks, Dr. Chen."

Around five o'clock in the afternoon, a large truck slowly entered, and six calves were unloaded, looking not in great condition.

Chen Ying, fully equipped, hurried over to help examine the calves.

The calves did not seem energetic, each appearing exhausted and a bit shy.

The six calves were allocated to three different pens and fed with high-quality blended feed.

The calves mooed softly, refusing to eat, especially one who seemed to have been born just over a week ago. After standing for a while, it laid down in a corner, its head drooping.

Chen Ying noticed it immediately and hurried over to examine it.

"It's mainly due to hunger; it's too young and still needs mother's milk. Let's prepare some milk."

Since there was no suitable powdered milk available, Sun Qihai ran back and fetched some feed from their calves.

Heated a bit and fed to the calf with a bottle, at first, it didn't eat. But after tasting it, it kept sucking non-stop.

Seeing their companion eating, the other calves gathered around, especially the slightly larger one in the same pen, who tried to snatch the bottle.

"When can the milk powder arrive?"

"It's being prepared and will be sent with the supplies, but it's likely to arrive by tomorrow afternoon."

"I'll call Ci Ren and see if they can help."

Based on the situation, out of the six calves, only two still needed powdered milk, the others could eat pellets and forage.

As long as the feed and water were replenished well, these calves would recover with some care.

An hour later, Ci Ren drove over with two buckets of milk and some calf-specific milk powder prepared by his family.

"Use this for now, tell me if it's not enough." He squatted outside the pen and sighed after looking at the calves, "Those guys are really heartless."

The news had already spread among herders, and some even thought of targeting the calves.
