Chapter 20: Chapter 19 You Are Not at the Required Level
Wang Anquan listened to Cheng Zhu's words and at first didn't react.
But he wasn't a fool, just somewhat emotionally ignorant, so after a little thought, he understood.
Cheng Zhu recalled for a moment and thought to himself, "Actually, this has to do with the times. It's 2014, and there are still plenty of fools in love."
"As time goes on, whether it's because of the bombardment of information online or changes in social attitudes, fools haven't decreased, but many truths are understood by everyone."
"Such as lickspittles, tender men, spare tires, etc."
"Of course, for some people: I understand all the principles, but that doesn't stop me from being a silly little fool in love."
Wang Anquan, having caught on, asked Cheng Zhu, "Brother Zhu, are you saying that Rongrong might be in touch with other guys?"
Cheng Zhu didn't answer, but counter-asked, "What do you think?"
Wang Anquan opened his mouth, wanted to deny it, but ultimately said weakly, "Maybe… maybe it was like that before."
After speaking, he lifted his head and stubbornly said, "But this time it's different, she's been reaching out to me very actively these past few days. A girl, initiating chats with you every day, caring about your schedule, that… that must mean something, right?"
"You wish," Cheng Zhu looked at him speechlessly.
He had caught a piece of information from what Wang Anquan had said when he had just boarded the high-speed train. Chen Rongrong had asked him if he had boarded the train.
Therefore, Cheng Zhu asked, "Did you tell Chen Rongrong that you were going out with me?"
"Uh, yeah." Wang Anquan did not deny it.
Speaking of which, he was indeed a rather honest person, he just told Chen Rongrong that Cheng Zhu wanted to try e-commerce, and everyone was going to check out some suppliers.
If it were some adolescent boys, they might have tried to sound cool and said, "We're trying to do some e-commerce, the two bros are going to check out some suppliers."
A good buddy's venture, I'm just tagging along and flexing a bit, that's not too much, right?
Listening to his reply, Cheng Zhu roughly understood why Chen Rongrong would initiate contact with him.
The reason was simple, because right after the World Cup Final, Chen Rongrong had sought out Cheng Zhu.
At first, she had posed as caring about his and Li Xinyue's relationship issues.
But after Cheng Zhu warned her not to bring it up again, she naturally slid away from the topic of Li Xinyue and kept finding topics to chat with Cheng Zhu, occasionally using little tricks she thought were clever for girls of her age.
Like suddenly saying, "Wait, I'm going downstairs to get a package, my new camisole nightgown has arrived."
A few minutes later, she'd open the package and send him a picture to show the style.
If this were during a flirty conversation, the guy could take the chance to be cheeky and say, "Wear it and take a photo."
I don't know if you have met such people during your school days, or if you were such a person, those who wanted to date their friend's ex…
She was quite into Cheng Zhu, saying he was amazing, earning others' two years of living expenses in one night.
She also hinted that Yueyue didn't appreciate him.
Chen Rongrong's intentions, too evident, showed too much.
Later on, Cheng Zhu just ignored her WeChat messages, giving her the cold treatment.
Even so, every time he checked his social media, he could always see the posts Chen Rongrong shared.
Polished selfies, sharing some songs and daily activities, and hints about how bored she was during the summer vacation and wanting to travel... just posting very frequently.
If there were any ulterior motives, he could just directly invite her to travel.
Cheng Zhu always thought, if a person's social media normally shows updates every three days and suddenly they open up their permissions, or if they hadn't posted anything for months and then began posting very frequently, these statuses often could reveal some information.
So, he even blocked Chen Rongrong's social media.
"Damn, wasting my data."
What made him speechless was that beneath these posts, he could always see Wang Anquan's likes and comments.
Out of sight, out of mind.
"But I still underestimated her patience, she even started using indirect approaches, making insinuations through Wang Anquan." Cheng Zhu felt like rolling his eyes like Jiang Wanzhou.
As the high-speed train began to move, Cheng Zhu looked at Wang Anquan and finally confirmed, asking, "When she chats with you, does she ever mention Li Xinyue?"
Wang Anquan nodded, saying, "Brother Zhu, how did you guess? She often mentions her, always saying Li Xinyue's attitude towards you is wrong, she wouldn't be like that, she thinks women should understand men and not always have a princess temper…"
The teenager started talking non-stop, but Cheng Zhu could no longer listen.
"Little sister has quite a few tricks, even secretly transmitting messages," Cheng Zhu was almost certain of Chen Rongrong's motives now.
"If it weren't for the fact that I've told you not to bring up Li Xinyue with me, her self-praising words to Wang Anquan would have reached my ears long ago."
"I know what kind of person she is; she's half a pound, even worse than Li Xinyue."
"It's just that she knows what I dislike about Li Xinyue and purposely tries to cater to my preferences."
"To the ordinary young guy, now heartbroken, who could handle her games?" Cheng Zhu thought to himself.
But judging by his tea-tasting skills, he could only comment, "Mid-grade green tea."
Cheng Zhu opened his backpack and took out a big piece of bubblegum.
Wang Anquan also wanted some, but he was ruthlessly rejected with a petty remark, "It's from my sister, not for you."
As he chewed on the overly sweet bubblegum, he said, "Anquan, let's be realistic, bro. Ask yourself, do you think Chen Rongrong is a good girl?"
Wang Anquan's response was somewhat unexpected to Cheng Zhu: "Not really."
He had occasionally heard some gossip about Chen Rongrong.
"Damn, pretty high awareness there, I underestimated you," Cheng Zhu slapped him lightly.
Wang Anquan looked up confusedly, pointed at Cheng Zhu's phone, and said, "But Brother Zhu, it's you who seriously noted it down in your memo: 'Don't let a good girl down, don't waste a bad girl.'"
Cheng Zhu was startled.
"Damn, you little brat, so your awareness isn't just high, it's too high!"
He swore and said, "That saying was for me, not for you. It's my memo, not yours."
"So, you're planning to 'not waste a bad girl,' huh?" Cheng Zhu almost wanted to stand up and applaud him.
Cheng Zhu had seen too many guys digging their own graves.
Some people start with the thought, "I'm just playing," but then get more hooked and obscured than anyone else!
"Too many, there are just too many of these people."
"If you don't have the skills to detach whenever, then you should be prepared to be manipulated," Cheng Zhu silently thought.
He could never have imagined that Wang Anquan was attempting such a leap in growth.
So, with earnest seriousness, he said, "You, first have a normal relationship. At your level, you're just stubborn bronze, can't even handle the silver league, and yet you freaking think you can play the freeloading game?"
