Forbidden Boundaries: A Dance with Danger

Chapter 13: Chapter 12

Kisuke leaned against the doorframe, watching Soifon clean the mess she'd made after setting up the plates. He knew she hadn't noticed him; she was too focused on her task.

"What are you doing here?" he asked, finally catching her attention. He would have chuckled at her startled jump if he hadn't been concerned about her well-being.

Soifon gasped and turned, nearly dropping the pan she was holding. "I was making breakfast for you, but I decided to cook for everyone since I was already in the kitchen," she said, facing him defiantly.

She wouldn't let Kisuke tell her to rest, even though he was her boyfriend.

Soifon shrugged and placed the pan in the sink. "I'm fine," she finally responded, heading back to the counter.

Kisuke blocked her path. "Kisuke, you're in my way," she retorted. "And there are two hungry kids waiting to eat."

Kisuke remained planted, his arms crossed. He looked down at the stubborn woman and shook his head. "You're supposed to be resting, not doing all of this." He ignored her death glare.

Soifon maintained her glare for a moment before it softened. She knew Kisuke was only concerned about her. "I'm sorry," she whispered, looking down like a scolded child.

"I just wanted to be nice," she said quietly. "I made breakfast for you so you could eat when you woke up. And I was going to help Tessai feed the kids."

Kisuke gazed at Soifon. He understood her reputation as cold-hearted and ruthless, but he knew her true nature—sweet, kind, and a wonderful companion, especially once she allowed people into her inner circle.

Determined to show his concern, Kisuke stated, "Soifon, I care deeply about you. Please understand that I'm not angry. I just worry that you might harm yourself further."

As Tessai entered the kitchen to retrieve plates for Jinta and Ururu, Kisuke turned to Soifon. "Soi," he whispered, "meet my gaze. I want to emphasize that I'm not upset." Gently lifting her chin with his finger, he reinforced his words.

"Thank you for wanting to make me breakfast, and I'm certain Tessai appreciates your assistance," the former 12th squad captain said. Soifon met Kisuke's gaze as he spoke. "But most importantly, I don't want you to overdo it, especially since you're still recovering."

Soifon realized her mistake and opened her mouth to apologize again. Kisuke wasn't angry; he was concerned. She hoped Yoruichi wasn't either, knowing they understood her better than anyone.

"Yoruichi isn't angry either," Kisuke said, sensing her thoughts. "She informed me you were overexerting yourself. When she mentioned your wound reopening, I worried something serious had happened."

Soifon nodded as he embraced her. "I apologize," she murmured, her eyes closed against his chest.

"Don't. I'm just worried," he whispered in her hair. "Yoruichi has gone to fetch Orihime."

The captain nodded.

"Once you healed, we can go out together."

Kisuke added, "As we planned, we could even go to the zoo if you'd like." He knew how much Soifon adored the zoo.

Indeed, Soifon had a special fondness for animals, particularly cats. She gazed at Kisuke in amazement. "Truly? Can we return to the zoo?" she asked, unaware that people could visit as often as they pleased.

"Absolutely," Kisuke reassured her with a smile. "It's open year-round, except for the fall and winter. And I believe the fair will begin by the end of your second week," he said, noticing Soifon's confused face.

"The fair?" Soifon echoed, looking at Kisuke. "Is that another type of zoo?" she asked.

Kisuke chuckled and shook his head. "It's more like a festival, and they have animals too, but not tigers or lions."

Soifon frowned, puzzled by his words. "You mean there won't be any elephants either?" she asked.

Kisuke chuckled at her question. "Nope, they have farm animals like horses, cows, pigs, and other small animals," he said. "You can even pet them."

Soifon nodded in understanding. She had seen horses, pigs, and cows in the Soul Society and smiled when Kisuke mentioned being allowed to touch these animals at the fair. "I would like to go," she said. "Maybe it will be a pleasant experience before I head back."

Kisuke nodded and smiled. "Sounds like a plan," he said, looking at the food. "But in the meantime, let's eat and wait for Orihime to heal you."

Soifon nodded. "Okay, and then we can go to the zoo." She followed him out of the kitchen, letting him carry their food to the table.

Unbeknownst to them, someone watched from outside, a smirk spreading across their face. "So you're here for a while, little captain," the blue-haired man whispered from his perch on a pole.

"That gives me time to play with you, but I'll wait until the last night." He vanished as he sensed people approaching, knowing it was the human girl who came to heal the second squad captain.

"Heal her quickly. I don't want my toy damaged any further," Grimmjow thought before returning to Hueco Mundo.
