Chapter 6: Chapter Six
It was indeed an awesome night for both of them that came to an end just like a flash. They felt like they needed to do more forgotten that they were sexually intimate throughout the night and at a point, they got tired and couldn't help but cuddle and sleep.
“I wish we could stay like this for the whole day but mum will be back home soon and your granny will be here at any time.”
“Exactly! The reason you should consider accepting your scholarship.”
“I wish I had the power to convince my mum but she remains resolute in her decision. What else can I do than to accept?”
John’s voice faltered in disappointment. “ I hope it is for the best.”
While in bed, Kendra wrapped her right arm over his waist forcing him to move closer, and whispered in her usual low tone, “I will utilize every opportunity that comes my way for the best.”
John nodded in affirmation and kissed her. Is he willing to let her go just for them to see every mid-term break? Multiple thoughts crossed his mind forgetting that his lips were on top of Kendra’s lips.
Kendra moved her lips away and John snapped out of his thought.” I promise to be back and create another fresh memory that we can reminisce on.”
“I believe you.”
She let go of her grip on John, moved into the bathroom, freshened up, got dressed, kissed him, and bade him goodbye insisting that he stayed behind so that Granny would meet him the moment she stepped in.
It was as if Kendra left him in a dark and dying world that needed quick illumination. Well, the only illuminating human had taken a bolder step away!
He cuddled his pillow tightly while reminiscing how pleasurable the night was. “Can you come back and never leave again?”
“Yeah, I am back.”
He hurriedly got up from bed and hugged the person standing in front of him.
“I am so sorry, I know you must be lonely.”
John felt the wrinkled skin of the person he hugged and quietly observed the person’s face. He was shocked when he realized it was Granny and that made him scream so loud.
“What!” He hurriedly covered himself up with his blanket because he was wearing a short brief that was quite revealing.
“Have you seen a ghost?” Granny asked in total confusion.
“How did you get in?”
“Have you forgotten I have my spare key? I quietly sneaked in because I don't wanna disturb your sleep.” she shrieked.
“Oh, that's true.” He said while avoiding eye contact.
“Wait, who were you referring to when you said…”
“Oh, that! I was referring to you 'cause I missed you so much.”
“Then why did you act like you have seen a ghost even after hugging me?”
“I wasn't expecting you to come back so early.”
“Hmmm… if you say so,” Granny said sarcastically and left him in his bedroom.
He couldn't believe he appeared like that in front of Granny. Embarrassment would be an understatement when it comes to describing how he felt.
“John! John!!” Granny screamed from the sitting room.
“I will join you shortly!”
He hurriedly rushed to the bathroom, freshened up, dressed up, and got prepared for the day.
go through the list and tell me if there is anything that must be added. Also, if you think you see anything in the mall that you would like to get, please inform me. Granny said as he handed over the list to him.
He scanned through all she had written and was surprised that everything was according to what he planned on getting before resuming college. “ when did you draft all of this and how did you know these are my needs?”
“I was once a teenager like you and I know the necessary needs that can't be overlooked especially when it comes to going to the university.”
“Are you sure you can get me all of this?”
Before Granny could say anything, the Uber she ordered arrived. “We have to leave now.”
John remained muted as Granny instructed him to enter the Uber. He was a bit surprised as that was the first time he would be following her for shopping.
He had a lot of questions weighing on his mind but he didn’t know where to start from. One certain thing is that she couldn’t have come up with that list. Someone must have helped her but who?
John voiced out the moment he couldn't hold on to his excitement and shock at the same time. “How come you never told me we were going out for a shopping today?”
“I just wanted to make it a surprise!”
“Interesting! Since when have you been planning this cause I find it a bit weird and shocking.”
“I started planning everything the moment I heard about your scholarship. You deserve to be encouraged. This is the little I can do for you.”
Her words made him so emotional and he made a promise to her, “I will never disappoint you.”
Granny smiled at him and patted his shoulder.
They finally arrived at the mall after a 30-minute drive, hopped out of the car, and headed straight to the male accessories section in the mall.
Granny helped pick out some nice clothes before shopping for some bedding items, and beverages… and finally surprised him with a MacBook.
“You are joking, right? This can't be mine?”
“It's yours.” She smiled and handed it over to him.
His joy knew no bounds as he received the MacBook.
Tears welled in his eyes as he observed the laptop as if that was his greatest achievement yet. “If only my parents were here today.”
Granny moved closer to him, hugged him passionately, and whispered in his ears, “You have nothing to worry about since am here with you.”
Those words consoled him as he found solace in her embrace but he became curious at the same time.
“Granny, I know you are always there for me anytime but there is this question weighing on my mind that have always wanted to ask you.”
“And what could that be?”
“From Monday to Friday, you are always at home, but on weekends, you go out and then come back home. I'm curious, what do you do at your age that helps you earn so much and even afford a house?"
She sighed deeply, “I will introduce you to what I do someday but at the right time.”
“Oh, no! When is the right time?”
She quickly deviated from the discussion to avoid further questions.” we have to pay for all of this now and go meet the Uber guy to avoid extra charges.”
“Alright, Granny.”
