Chapter 4: 3 DUBAI
"Ladies and gentlemen, we are now cleared for landing at the Dubai International Airport. Please make sure that your seat belt is securely fastened. No more last minute trip to the lavatory please as I won't be around to catch you this time. The flight attendants will make one last cabin check for compliance and gather all your trash and used cups."
Upon hearing Jungkook's announcement, some passengers laughed while others were confused at what the pilot just said. Meanwhile, on the First Class seat A1, Taehyung was covering his face as he was dying of embarassment, plus he was blushing for the nth time that day thanks to the pilot.
Someone tapped Taehyung's shoulder, making the younger flinch and look up.
"I'm sorry Mr. Kim, didn't mean to startle you. The captain asked me to hand this to you." Jackson said.
"T-thank you." Taehyung said.
He opened the note and it said:
Come with me to Burj Khalifa? If it's a yes, wait for me outside the gate exit.
Taehyung smiled and placed the note inside his sketch pad. He then took out his makeup kit and applied some make up on.
He even styled his hair differently, ruffling it a bit and then capped his new look with his eyeglasses.
As he was fixing himself, Jin passed by and ask if he had trash to dispose.
"No trash here, hyung. I left him back in Seoul." Taehyung said, making Jin laugh.
"You look pretty." Jin said.
"Hyung, I have a big favor to ask." Taehyung said.
"What is it?" Jin said.
"Can you keep Namjoon hyung with you while we're in Dubai? I'll just be with Jungkook in Burj Khalifa. I'll be safe." Taehyung flashed Jin his puppy-eyed look with the hopes of making him say yes.
"I'll try. You know how protective he is when it comes to you." Jin said.
"Come on, he doesn't come with me when I'm on a date with Eun Woo. I think Jungkook would be more than capable to protect me." Taehyung said.
"Oh, is this a date?" Jin said.
"No, it's not. But, you said so yourself right? I have to take my chances?" Taehyung said.
"Ok. I'll talk to him." Jin said before going to the next passenger.
"Cabin crew, please take your seats for landing." Jungkook said over the PA system.
Why is his voice so hot? Taehyung thought, making him forget how scared he gets during landing.
After half an hour, they have safely landed and Taehyung was starting to get nervous.
Why am I even nervous? Taehyung, get a hold of yourself. This NOT a date. He's a PILOT, for crying out loud.
He's just a friend. Period. Taehyung thought, trying hard to convince himself.
When the passengers were given a go signal to disembark, Namjoon went straight to Taehyung.
"I'll take care of your carry-on luggage. I'll meet you at the boarding gate when you get back." Namjoon said.
"Thank you, hyung!" Taehyung hugged Namjoon.
"Yeah yeah, I'm only allowing this because we both know that Jungkook has no choice but to come back and that he's technically employed under your father's company." Namjoon said.
"You're the best, hyung!" Taehyung said and then his eyes met Jin's who winked at him. The younger mouthed a thank you before happily walking out of the plane.
He waited outside the gate as the crew usually comes out after all the passengers have disembarked. Fifteen minutes later, he saw Jungkook walking towards the exit with the other crew members. The moment their eyes met, Jungkook smiled, causing Taehyung to smile back.
"I'm glad you're here." Jungkook said as he came face-to-face with Taehyung.
"Well, I haven't been to Burj so, why not." Taehyung shyly said.
"You look different." Jungkook said.
"Different as in weird different?" Taehyung asked.
"No. Different as in happy, more beautiful different." Jungkook said.
Taehyung felt his cheeks burning, but thankfully, someone jumped in the conversation and saved him from an awkward situation.
"Hey, Cap. Take care of my bear or I'll skin you alive." Jin warned as he walked hand-in-hand with Namjoon hyung who just nodded at Jungkook.
"And I thought his husband was your bodyguard."
Taehyung laughed at what the older said.
"They're both protective of me. They're more my parents than my father could ever be." Taehyung said as he walked alongside Jungkook.
Before Jungkook could say something about what he just said, Taehyung immediately added, "So, how are we going there?"
"A car's waiting for us outside. It's just a 15 to 20 min-drive." Jungkook said.
"Will we have enough time before the commecting flight?" Taehyung asked.
"Yes, sir. More than enough." Jungkook said.
"Sir?" Taehyung asked.
"Technically, you're my boss."
"Nope. That would be my brother. I have no connection to the company." Taehyung said, shaking his head.
"Awww, there goes your chance to boss me around." Jungkook teased.
"I wasn't really planning to boss you around."
"I'm just saying that you could."
"I'll take note of that. It might come in handy one of these days."
"And I'll take note of THAT. Good that you're still open to the possibility of seeing me in the future."
"You're a sweet talker, aren't you?" Taehyung said.
"Honestly? I'm quite surprised myself. I'm not even a talker at all, but you bring out something in me that I'm still trying to wrap my fingers on." Jungkook said as he opened the exit door for Taehyung.
"This is us." Jungkook said referring to the limo parked in the driveway.
"Fancy ride." Taehyung said.
"It was the fastest I could arrange." Jungkook said as he opened the door for Taehyung.
"Thank you." Taehyung said.
Jungkook closed the door and jogged to the other side.
When Jungkook was inside, he was immediately greeted by the driver.
"Good afternoon, Captain Jeon. It's been awhile."
"Nice to see you again, Omar. To the Burj please."
"Right away, sir."
"Hmmm, a regular I see. So, who else have you brought to Burj aside from me?" Taehyung asked.
If Jin didn't tell Jungkook about Taehyung's background, he would've found the question offensive, but he prepared himself for it.
"Omar? Can you please tell Mr. Kim here who I was with the few times I've been here in Dubai?" Jungkook addressed the driver.
"The first time was with your mother, the second and third time you were by yourself, and most recently, with two of your crew members." The driver said.
"Does that answer your question?" Jungkook asked Taehyung with a genuine smile.
"It was a joke, Cap. I'm sorry if I've offended you." Taehyung said, feeling guilty about what he said.
"Not at all. Just enjoy the moment." Jungkook said.
"So, what can I expect at Burj?" Taehyung asked.
"You'll see. Though, I'm sorry but they don't serve Japchae there." Jungkook said, chuckling.
"W-wait, how did you know I liked Japchae?" Taehyung asked.
"Your Jin hyung kinda volunteered the information."
"What else did he tell you about me?"
"That you graduated from Yale, your favorite color is grey, your birthday is on Dec 30, you love to write, read and draw at your spare time and that you sing well." Jungkook said, deliberately leaving out the family part.
"Wow. And he just told you that without you asking?"
"Pretty much how it happened." Jungkook chuckled again. "He's quite a rambler."
"You're right about that." Taehyung said while leaving a mental note to scold his hyung later on.
"Since you already know those things about me, how about you?" Taehyung asked.
"What exactly do you want to know?"
"Anything you're open to share."
"Okay. I graduated in CAE Oxford Aviation Academy, my favorite color is purple, my birthdate is September 1, I paint, draw and do boxing in my spare time and I could carry a tune too."
"Are you single?" Taehyung asked.
"Wow, that escalated fast."
"Well, you already know what happened to me recently. It's just fair I ask." Taehyung said.
"Yes, I'm single. Never been married in case you're wondering about that. Last relationship I had was when I was in high school and it lasted for almost a year." Jungkook said.
"You've been single since then? Was it by choice?"
"Yeah. It just wasn't a priority." Jungkook said.
"Wasn't?" Taehyung asked.
"Yeah. Wasn't."
"So, now it is?"
"Still trying to wrap my fingers around it." Jungkook said.
"I see." Taehyung said, trying hard not to smile given that he mentioned that answer earlier, in reference to his effect on the pilot.
"So what happened to you and your ex. You didn't get her pregnant, by any chance?" Taehyung asked.
Jungkook laughed.
"What's so funny?"
"Let's just say, I guess he's not part of the 1% of the male population who can get pregnant."
"Oh." Shit shit shit he's not straight. Taehyung cursed internally.
"Oh? Is that all you can say?" Jungkook asked with a smirk.
"Um, great? I dunno what to say."
"Vante…lost for words? I don't think so. What did you really have in mind?"
"I thought you were straight."
"Why? Because I'm a pilot?"
"No. Because you exude such manliness?"
"You judged me on that too?"
"It was just an observation."
"You should get your gaydar checked?"
"My what?!" Taehyung asked laughing out loud.
"A gay radar."
"You amuse me, Jeon Jungkook."
"You amuse me too, Kim Taehyung."
The two were having so much fun with their playful banter that they didn't notice that they've already reached their destination.
"We're here, Mr. Jeon." The driver said.
"Thanks, Omar. We will be done in an hour and a half." Jungkook said.
"Alright, sir." Omar replied.
Jungkook went down the car and went to Taehyung's side who was already out of the car before he could even open the door for him.
"Excited much?" Jungkook asked.
"It's beautiful." Taehyung said as he looked at the building.
"Wait till you see what's on top." Jungkook said as he took Taehyung's hand.
Taehyung just let him as he felt so at ease with the older.
The two hopped in the elevator and Jungkook pressed level 124. It took them only a minute to reach to the said floor.
"Wow. This is amazing." Taehyung said as he walked to the observation deck.
"Personally, I think it's much better at night, but yeah. Amazing, right?" Jungkook said.
"It's beautiful."
"I can't believe you've never been here before." Jungkook said.
"I usually spend my layovers at the airport lounge, either writing or drawing."
"So you bring a sketch pad with you all the time too?"
"Yeah." Taehyung said as he took out his phone to take a photo of the vast beauty of Dubai.
Meanwhile, Jungkook took out his to take a photo of Taehyung without the other noticing.
They stayed there for a few more minutes before Jungkook invited him to the dining area.
They were both handed a menu, but Taehyung said he would leave it up to Jungkook to order.
"Are you allergic to anything?" Jungkook asked.
"No I'm good with anything." Taehyung said so Jungkook proceeded to order the best items in the menu.
"So, you said you carry your sketch pad with you all the time?" Jungkook asked.
"Yeah."
"Can I see it?" Jungkook asked.
"No." Taehyung immediately said, remembering what he just drew on the plane.
"Please?" Jungkook said with puppy eyes.
"You think your cuteness will make me say yes?"
"So, I'm cute?"
"In a bunny kind of way, yes." Taehyung giggled.
"Come on, show me."
"You're so annoying."
"What? Are you afraid they're not good enough?" Jungkook said, trying to provoke the latter.
"Excuse me?"
"Then, show me what you've got."
Taehyung thought about it for a few seconds and eventually gave in.
"Fine." He said as he handed the sketch pad to Jungkook.
Since the pad was fairly new, it only had around 8-pages worth of drawings.
"Wow, these are amazing, Taehyung." Jungkook said as he flipped through the pages until he reached the last one where he found his note first before he looked at the drawing closely.
Jungkook grinned and then closed the pad without saying anything.
"What's with that smile?" Taehyung said.
"Nothing." Jungkook said, still smiling like an idiot without looking at Taehyung.
"What?! Jungkook, look at me. What is it?"
"I don't want to look at you."
"Huh, why?"
Jungkook kept on looking down so Taehyung playfully held his chin so he could face him, but Jungkook wouldn't budge. They were at it for about a minute and they were laughing like idiots until Taehyung stopped.
"Jungkoooook, why won't you look at me?" Taehyung asked again and Jungkook slowly looked at him.
"Cause you might get lost in my eyes…and to tell you frankly, I don't think I wanna lose you."
Taehyung was speechless at what he just heard.
Jungkook was about to have a slight panic attack as he thought he was beeing too forward this time, until Taehyung threw his table napkin at him.
"There. Go blindfold yourself while we eat." Taehyung said with a giggle which was such a relief for Jungkook.
"But, I have to admit, that was a good one. Can I use that line in my book?" Taehyung jokingly asked.
"Sure, just pay me for usage rights."
"And how much would that be?"
"Won't cost you actually."
"Huh?"
"Stay with me when we get to Malta."
"Hmmm…let me think about it." Taehyung said.
"Okay, you still have 8 hours to think about it any —"
"Okay, I thought about it and the answer is yes." Taehyung said making Jungkook laugh out loud.
God, what are you doing do to my heart, Kim Taehyung.
Taehyung just laughed with him, taking the pilot's advise to just enjoy every moment.
