Chapter 7: Chapter 7 Only to Blind Dates
Seeing Yan Qingruo carrying her suitcase downstairs, Yan Wenshan became very angry and cursed, "Look at you, what sort of state are you in? You make a mistake, and when your elders reprimand you, it's unbearable? You think you're still a child who can just run away from home whenever you like."
Yan Qingruo walked up to her father while Li Haocheng and Yan Ya were eating fruit, giggling in a way that made Yan Qingruo's heart ache and chill.
She didn't understand why overnight, everything had changed, what should've been hers had been lost...
Perhaps, she had never truly had any of it.
Yan Qingruo said to her father, "Dad, I'm leaving. There are some things too big for me to take; I'll come back for them in a few days."
Having said that, she didn't look back at them again and turned to leave.
Furious, Yan Wenshan threw a glass behind her, shattering it on the ground into pieces, just like Yan Qingruo's heart.
But what right did Yan Wenshan have to lose his temper with her?
As Yan Qingruo stepped outside, a light rain began to fall, making her heart feel even colder.
Grandma's heart condition couldn't be operated on, and doctors said she wouldn't last many more days.
Because her mother had passed away early and her father had remarried long ago, Grandma's greatest wish had always been for Yan Qingruo to get married, to have a man by her side to look after her, so she wouldn't be all alone after Grandma was gone.
That was also the reason Yan Qingruo had gotten engaged to Li Haocheng early; it was to put Grandma at ease.
But now, marriage was too far out of reach for her.
Going to Grandma's house all alone like this, she wouldn't be able to keep it a secret.
If Grandma knew she had broken up, would she get so upset that it would make her condition worse?
Thinking of this made Yan Qingruo's heart sharply twinge with pain. Grandma was now the closest person to her, and she couldn't let anything happen to her!
It was just then that her phone started to ring.
She picked it up and saw that it was Grandma calling.
Yan Qingruo's heart clenched, scared to answer, but eventually she had to.
Grandma asked gently on the other end of the line, "Ruoruo, you said you'd bring Haocheng home tonight. I went out early to buy lots of your favorite dishes, make sure you come back, okay?"
Yan Qingruo was startled, remembering that she had indeed agreed to bring Li Haocheng home for dinner at Grandma's tonight.
Grandma had always been quite satisfied with Li Haocheng, and she had been happy to bring him to see Grandma.
But now, what was she supposed to do? Not to mention that Li Haocheng would certainly not help her, she also didn't want to have anything to do with someone like him anymore.
"Grandma... uh..." The words Yan Qingruo wanted to say to explain were on the tip of her tongue, but she couldn't bring herself to say them.
The events of the past few days had left her throat tight with emotion.
"What's the matter, Ruoruo? Did something happen between you and Haocheng?" As soon as Grandma heard her hesitation, she immediately asked with concern, very worried.
Yan Qingruo composed herself and said insincerely, "Grandma, it's nothing, everything is fine, don't worry. I will definitely come back tonight."
Grandma was relieved and said, "That's good, that's good. Grandma is just worried about your love life; if something were to happen to me... "
"Grandma! Don't say such depressing things. You'll live a long life, and you'll always be by my side," Yan Qingruo interrupted, trying to comfort her.
After hanging up the phone, Yan Qingruo felt an emptiness in her heart; no matter how sweetly she spoke, it was futile.
If she returned to Grandma's side tonight without Li Haocheng, Grandma would surely question her thoroughly. There was no way she could hide it, not for long.
Yan Qingruo dragged her suitcase, reflecting on her situation, as she watched the reflection of her own silhouette in the shop window.
Now, there was no one who could help her.
She'd have to solve any problem that arose by herself, wouldn't she?
Yan Qingruo, your mother always said, no matter what happens, you must carry on with life! No matter what thorns lie ahead, you cannot lose hope!
You have to strive to live well and take care of grandma, right?
Facing the window's mirror, Yan Qingruo wiped the tears from her face with the back of her hand, clenched her fist in determination, and told herself that no difficulty could defeat her—the only person who could was herself!
But how to deal with grandma's situation troubled Yan Qingruo very much.
She bit her lip and thought for a long time before finally making a tough decision!
She took out her phone and found the number for a marriage agency.
She resolved to settle this matter before the evening.
Bring a boyfriend to grandma's side!
She was determined to get this done!
By the time evening approached, when Yan Qingruo arrived at the café, the man she was to meet for the matchmaking date was already waiting for her.
Her expectations for this date weren't high—good character was enough.
She wouldn't waste the man's time just for the sake of her grandma—so long as he had good character, she was willing to have a genuine relationship with him.
The incident with Li Haocheng had hit her hard. She didn't intend to start another relationship so soon, but then she thought of her sick grandma… Yan Qingruo pushed aside all selfish thoughts and took a deep breath.
No matter what, she had to stabilize her grandma's emotions first.
She sat down, adjusted her glasses, and nodded to the other party in greeting.
The biography said he was thirty-six years old, had graduated with his doctorate last year, was highly educated, and held a good job. The marriage agency sang his praises, saying that if not for Yan Qingruo's youth, such a high-quality man would never have been introduced to her.
Yan Qingruo didn't have such high requirements for education and wealth, repeatedly stating that good character was all she needed, but the agency insisted on introducing this gentleman to her.
Given the situation, she had no choice but to agree, hoping only that his expectations weren't too high, otherwise this arrangement might not work out.
Now sitting down, Yan Qingruo took in the man sitting before her.
This man, his face speckled with acne, though the blemishes were not too prominent as he sported a full beard that masked his chin and cheeks.
His hair, on the other hand, was somewhat lacking, as if it had all grown on his face instead, leading to an early prominence on the top of his head.
Clearly, upon seeing Yan Qingruo, the doctor's eyes lit up, showing great satisfaction and interest.
After all, not only was Yan Qingruo young, but she also had a petite figure, perfect proportions, fair skin, and delicate features. When she smiled, it was as if flowers bloomed in the spring breeze—charming and delicate.
Yan Qingruo hadn't worn makeup or dressed up carefully, but this only served to make her skin seem more radiant and her appearance youthful and bright.
The café's tables were quite small. When Yan Qingruo sat down, her back was immediately against that of another customer at the next table.
Just as she was seated, Chen Qianmo, sitting back-to-back with her, furrowed his brow slightly.
He had urgent matters to attend to today and hadn't had time to investigate her, to find out if she was indeed someone sent by his grandfather.
At the moment, he was also busy with critical affairs and couldn't reveal his identity.
