Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 723 - 723: 722 That was the past, not the present

Chapter 723: 722 That was the past, not the present

“Mo Xiuchen, we used to be deeply in love. You once promised that you would marry me, so our marriage isn’t just a casual decision.”

Cheng Jia’s face turned pale instantly.

She looked at Mo Xiuchen with sorrow, desperately trying to defend herself.

Mo Xiuchen handed her a tissue, his still eyes masked deep emotions that were hard to decipher.

But his voice was not as cold as before.

If it were any other day, Cheng Jia would be delighted by his tone of voice.

“You’ve said it. That was the past, not the present. Cheng Jia, I don’t have any memory of you now. Even if we get married, it’s not possible for me to treat you well. So, we could only wait until my memory returns, or until I fall in love with you again.”

Filled with tears, Cheng Jia’s eyes flashed with hesitation.

His words ‘fall in love again’ held a great temptation for her.

She knew that Mo Xiuchen is not a man who is easily swayed.

Since he had made a decision, it meant that no matter whether she agreed or not,

he would not follow the original wedding date and marry her.

Her only chance was to make him truly fall in love with her before his memory returned.

Only if he fell in love with her would he never be with Wen Ran again, even if his memory returned.

She pressed her lips together, her voice low and faint, “Mo Xiuchen, I don’t want to wait for a lifetime.”

Mo Xiuchen squinted his eyes, a faint smile played upon his lips, “I never asked you to wait for a lifetime. Let’s eat. We have a lot of work this afternoon. When I came back, my father was asking someone to draft a plan to acquire Haochen. Once we have established a foothold in the market here in D Country, we plan to acquire Haochen.”

“Acquire Haochen? The chairman wants you to take care of it?”

Cheng Jia widened her eyes in shock, looking at him incredulously.

What on earth is the chairman trying to do?

Haochen doesn’t only belong to Luo Haofeng and Qin Mu, Mo Xiuchen also holds a share.

She wished he would cut ties with them forever and stay in D Country for good.

But the chairman is asking him to acquire Haochen. Isn’t this making him get in touch with Luo Haofeng and the others?

Doesn’t the chairman worry Luo Haofeng and the others would divulge Mo Xiuchen’s past to him?

Mo Xiuchen replied nonchalantly, “Yes, that’s what my father meant. Do you think I am not suitable? Or is the acquisition of Haochen inappropriate?”

“No, not at all. I just fear that it would be too tiring for you. It won’t be easy to stabilise our situation here in D Country. The chairman can let others take care of things back home. After all, you are not healthy enough to handle too much stress now.”

Cheng Jia avoided Mo Xiuchen’s probing gaze.

On the one hand, she didn’t want him to participate; on the other hand, she was truly worried about his health.

“Mo Xiuchen, the doctor said you should avoid overworking for the next six months and need to rest more.”

Fearing that he wouldn’t believe her, Cheng Jia added another sentence.

Mo Xiuchen leaned back slightly, pulling out his wallet, “I know my own body.”

G City

When Wen Ran woke up from her dream, it was only one o’clock in the morning.

The dream was so real that when she woke up, the sharp pain in her heart was still vivid, as if it had been sliced open by a sharp blade.

With one hand pressing her chest tightly, she used the other to wipe away her tears.

She got out of bed, wanting to pour herself a glass of water, only to find that there was no water left in the pot.

Wen Ran went downstairs and took a bottle of mineral water out of the fridge.

Just as she was about to head upstairs, she saw Gu Kai standing on the second floor.

“Brother, why are you awake?”

Wen Ran looked in surprise at Gu Kai, standing at the top of the stairs.

In his pajamas, he looked languid, drowsy, and sleepy.

Seeing her, he seemed somewhat surprised.

The drowsiness lessened somewhat, “Ranran, can you get me a bottle of water? I woke up feeling thirsty.”

“Sure.”

Wen Ran went back to get him a bottle of water.

Gu Kai was standing at the top of the second floor stairway.

His tall figure leaned against the perforated flower railing, looking relaxed and warm after shaking off his sleep, his eyes trailed softly as Wen Ran climbed the stairs.

“Bro, here you go.”

Wen Ran climbed to the second floor and handed over the water.

As Gu Kai accepted the water, his eyes narrowed slightly. “Ranran, why are your eyes so red? Did you have a nightmare?”

Indeed, he had heard the sound of footsteps in the corridor and knew that she had gone downstairs, which was why he had come out of his room.

Wen Ran’s eyes flickered slightly, “Mmm, I just had a dream. Bro, I’m going back to bed.”

Saying this, she yawned.

Gu Kai nodded, and then gently advised, “When you wake up from a nightmare next time, call me.”

“Okay.”

Wen Ran warmly agreed, her heart touched by his words.

The next morning, during breakfast, Wen Ran received a phone call from Qing Feng saying that the tree and flower seedlings had arrived.

“Ranran, how many days are you going to stay in the countryside this time?”

Gu Yan, seated across, asked gently.

Wen Ran responded unsurely, “Dad, I’m not sure how many days exactly, maybe three to four days.”

The main reason was that Bai Xiaoxiao was going with her, and tomorrow Bai Xiaoxiao would be going home with Luo Haofeng and might not return that night.

With the to and fro, it would most likely take two days, so she would need to stay in the countryside for three, perhaps even four days, to cover for her absence.

Understanding her thoughts, Gu Kai raised his eyebrows in amusement and casually asked, “Ranran, you’re going to be gone for quite a few days. Maybe you should go to the hospital to see Ah Mu before you leave, let him know. You didn’t visit him yesterday.”

They had come back the day before yesterday and dropped Qin Mu at the hospital, but she didn’t go to visit him yesterday.

Leaving for three or four days wouldn’t be very considerate.

Wen Ran nodded, “Bro, I’ll go to the hospital first, and then go to pick up Xiaoxiao.”

“Mmm.”

Gu Kai nodded in satisfaction and smiled.

Even though Gu Kai knew about Qin Mu’s feelings toward Wen Ran.

He thought that Wen Ran shouldn’t avoid Qin Mu just because he had feelings for her, especially since he had saved her life.

After breakfast, Wen Ran rode with Gu Kai to Kangning Hospital and brought breakfast for Qin Mu while she was at it.

Upon reaching the hospital, Gu Kai threw out a quick, “Ranran, you go see Ah Mu. I won’t go. I have a surgery later, I need to go to the ward first.”

Then he left her behind and walked away.

Wen Ran frowned slightly, held onto the insulated lunch box, took the elevator to the VIP floor where Qin Mu resided, knocked twice before entering.

Qin Mu was leaning against the bed reading a newspaper.

Seeing Wen Ran, his eyes lit up, a faint smile appeared on his face, making his handsome face appear even more vivid and beautiful.

“Wen Ran, how are you here?”

Wen Ran raised her eyebrows, her beautiful face beaming with a bright smile. She walked to the bed, placed the lunch box on the side table.

While getting his breakfast, she said, “I woke up early today, so I came to bring breakfast for you. Is it more lively here than when you were in A City?”

She didn’t visit him yesterday, mainly because many people came to visit.

As Mother Qin had said, Qin Mu had been in G City for many years and his social circle was here in G City.

Upon hearing that he was transferred to Kangning Hospital yesterday, many of his friends came to see him.

The many flowers in his room showed how many people had come to visit him yesterday.

Catching onto her teasing tone, Qin Mu laughed helplessly, “I hate flowers the most. Help me get rid of them later.”

Wen Ran laughed, “Get rid? Would you throw them all away? Look at all these flowers, what a waste if you throw them all out.”

“Do whatever you want to do, just don’t let me live in a floral environment.”

Qin Mu’s words were clearly a joke, yet he spoke them earnestly, even slightly pitiful. Wen Ran was amused.

She turned her head, glanced at the row of flower bouquets, “Alright, since you don’t want to live among flowers, I’ll get rid of them. I’ll distribute them to patients in the other wards, let the entire hospital live amongst them.”
