Chapter 10: Planet Valdosta
"Sigh! why now of all times." Kodak sighed biting his lips a bit. His hands were clenched into a fist, tightly gripping the letter.
Valine could see a mixture of fear and anger in his eyes, and she understood why. He'd just gotten back from his last mission some few days back, and they'd already requested for him to embark on yet another mission.
"Hey.. you got this. Remember what I taught you, no pain no gain right?" Valine softly said with a light smile, tilting her head to the side a bit.
"Yeah.. but am more worried of what to say to Leona. She's definitely going to kill me for sure." Kodak sighed deeply, clumsily seating on a wooden chair his hand placed to his chin as his mind drifted elsewhere.
'Haha! Young love.. I remember when I was in love back in the days.' She silently thought. Shaking her head she then crouched down a bit to Kodak's view, lifting his head up a bit with her hand.
"Leona is a strong and reasonable fine woman. She loves you more than you can imagine and respects your choices, so am sure she'll understand." Head elder valine softly said. Hearing her, Kodak was somewhat reassured as he knew valine was right.
His wife Leona was a sophisticated yet simple soul. She always found the good in others, never judging or chastising. Yes, most times she wasn't always settled with her husband leaving home, and embarking on dangerous journey's with kira. But she always respected his descions, and supported him no matter what.
"Thank you high elder." Kodak got up bowing his head a bit. "You always know how to make everything better."
"Of course I do silly boy! It's part of my special powers." She joked, to which they both lightly chuckled. "And besides.. the woman could've left your ass long ago if she wanted to, but she chose to stay because she loves you." She said to which Kodak smiled, blushing a bit.
"I mean seriously, how does she manages to cope with all the chaos around?" Valine wondered admiring Leona's resilience. Not many women would stay, after witnessing just a fraction of what Kodak went through in his missions. It wasn't the fact that they didn't care no! They just couldn't take the long cold nights and empty days, without their man for months apart.
"Anyways I should get going now. Thank you so much again head elder." Kodak thanked valine bowing his head, to which she simply gave him some light pats on the back.
Turning, Kodak then left the small cottage taking a big leap he landed gracefully, just at the entrance of the medical bay. Going in there wasn't any signs of the nurses present, only the few injured people. He could sense Leona was still where he left her, at the far left corner of the hall.
Slowly approaching her location he deliberated on what to say, as he didn't just want to outright tell her he was going on another mission. It would break her heart, and not too mention the fact that they now had the responsibility of a newborn child.
"Hey honey.." Kodak softly said gently sitting on the bed besides her, careful not to wake their sleeping bundle of joy.
"Darling~ how did the meeting go?" Leona softly whispered in a low tone. Scratching his head a bit, Kodak was thinking of how to approach the matter.
'Damn it! Why does it have to be this soon, couldn't they have at least given me some few weeks.' Kodak inwardly frowned, not delighted about leaving his wife and child this soon.
"Hey.." Leona softly uttered holding his hands. "T-they need you again right?" She softly said, making Kodak's eye go wide a bit. He was deliberating on how to tell her, but it seemed she'd somehow already knew.
"How did you know?"
"Your eyes. they always shrink a bit whenever you're afraid or worried." Leona smiled, pulling her husband into a soft embrace carrasing his hair. They stayed in each other's embrace for many minutes, savouring each other's presence.
Pulling back a bit, Leona stared at her husband with mixed emotions. "You know you don't have to worry about us that much. We'll be fine, and always here waiting for your return."
"B-but I can't possibly leave now, maybe I should-" she planted her lips to his, cutting him short. Kodak was a bit surprised by her actions but didn't utter a word, going along with the flow as they passionately kissed each other.
Time seemed to have stood still in that exact moment, as the locked lips. Their tongues fiercely battling for dominance. After a while they finally parted lips, huffing in deep amounts of air.
"Remember the promise we made to each other on our wedding day?" Leona suddenly said to which Kodak smiled.
"How could I ever forget? We promised we'll be together forever no matter what, and we'll build a home on our planet together away from all this." Hearing him Leona let out a weak smile, brushing her hands to his cheek.
"When do you leave?"
"Tomorrow latest." Getting up she had a lewd sly smirk on her face, seductively looking at Kodak. The latter could see tints of red on her cheeks, as her breathing had gotten rough.
"Then I guess we still have some time." She smiled licking her lips. Kodak was still confused as to what meant, but he soon realized what she want. Before he could utter a word, he was dragged by Leona to the back of the medical bay as they indulged in some little exercise.
Soon night came and went with the emerging of the sun on the horizon, indicating it was morning time. Getting up Kodak was prepared to leave but stopped, glancing at his sleeping wife and son.
"I promise I'll be back soon to spend time together my love." He softly whispered, kissing her forehead and doing the same for his little baby.
Exiting the medical bay it was a bit foggy, as it was still early in the morning. Kodak had already eaten, packing along some few snack in his bag for the journey. Sniffing the air, he could literally smell the dense foggy air mixed with burning wood.
'Sighs.. here goes nothing.' Stomping his leg he shot like a bullet, speeding out the village to the green plains heading to the location he came from. It didn't take long before he reached the small shrine. Stepping in, he payed homage to the statue of the god of fire, kira.
Stretching his hand to the small lamp besides the statue of god kira, flames appeared in his palm swirling fast. Creating a small ball of flames which he shot at the lamp, igniting it.
'Rumble!!'
The shrine rumbled a bit, as the statue's eyes caught flames. The next moment a white beam shone on Kodak, as his body was transported to the pod room in the temple of the gods.
"Kodak!" Kira called out in front. "First off all, congratulations on your newborn child." Kira smiled congratulating Kodak, to which he nodded in gratitude.
"Am sorry for summoning you on such short notice, but it's really important." Kira said with every bit of seriousness, and Kodak could tell it was very important with the way kira acted right now.
"What happened, was another planet destroyed?" Kodak urgently asked.
"No, it's the opposite of that. Some planets in our control, are being attacked by creatures from the dark realm. Several gods, and their disciples have already been dispatched to handle them. which was why I sent for you."
"Ok then what are we waiting for? Let's go." Kodak said determined, but kira simply shook his head.
"Am afraid I've been assigned a more important task, with some other high level gods Kodak. You'll be doing this with another god." Hearing this Kodak was a bit bummed he wouldn't be fighting alongside kira, but he knew there was a possibility this could happen.
"Which god is it?"
Hesitating a bit, kira wasn't sure how Kodak would take what he was about to say. "You'll be going with the god of-"
'Bam!'
"Systems, me." Nexus smiled cutting kira off, as she calmly proceeded to Kodak. Grabbing his hand, Kodak's body shivered a bit not expecting it. She then planted a kiss to his hand, shaking it.
"May I just say it's a pleasure to work with you." Nexus seductively smiled, winking at Kodak.
"Trust me I wouldn't have accepted it but we don't have a choice, we need to act fast." Kira said to which Kodak nodded. There was nothing he could do but accept his fate.
"I understand god kira, you don't have to explain. I promise to make you proud." Kodak bowed, earning a light tap from kira. Waving his hand an item magically appeared, falling into Kodak's hand.
"Take the sword, you'll be needing it." He said, with that he walked out the room leaving only nexus and Kodak.
"Shouldn't we-" Kodak wanted to speak, but nexus placed a finger to his lips. Heading over to a pod she typed something's, as it hummed a static tone opening.
"Well don't just stand there." Shaking his head Kodak then entered the pod, but was surprised to see nexus also entering shutting it.
"Why didn't you use another pod?" Kodak frowned knowing what she was doing, as the pod was a bit tight. Making her body to press against his a bit.
"I couldn't risk it. Even though it's the same planet we're heading to, I couldn't afford to risk it. What if we were transported to different places, or something bad happened?" She snorted, crossing her hands on her cleavelages. Sighing, Kodak knew this was going to be a long ride.
On a populated planet with towering massive buildings and advanced technology, a white beam shone with the appearance of two figures.
"Welcome to planet Valdosta sugarplum." Nexus giggled, tugging on Kodak's arm.
