Chapter 14: Entrance To The Other Side
There was fire everywhere when David opened his eyes.
He found himself in an ornate throne room surrounded by several cascading banners and large dark pillars made of obsidian.
To his right hand, he held a jagged black blade with several moving eyes on it, all of them blinking, staring, and emanating a strange power which he had never felt beforehand.
David tried to speak, but didn't feel his mouth move at all, instead he looked around, finding a party of people by his side, all of them wearing armor and robes of the highest order spun from platinum and gold threads.
Then, he turned ahead, and immediately, he was hit with a dark and foreboding presence. A large shadow loomed over the whole party as maddening whispers began to echo all around.
Images of certain death came to his mind, his body torn to pieces, and every action that he took couldn't do anything to stop it.
His family is gone, tattered, discarded, and buried by their own blood, and his hopes and aspirations are twisted while memories fade.
Everything was going wrong, and what brought him here was a mistake. There was no chance of victory at all, and even a familiar voice in his head echoed this same thought.
"Master. I suggest you do not engage with the Demon King. This fight can only end in your demise."
And finally, he could feel his mouth move and speak so differently from his own. It was deep yet calming, like a father speaking to his son."
"But will it also end in giving the world more time to prepare, and the greatest chance of overall survival?"
"…Affirmative."
"Then, we shall continue our stride. Somebody has to… if no one else will."
He then stepped forward and continued on with his charge, running into the darkness never to be seen again.
Every noise and light began to drown out until it became nothing more than a silent void where nothing can be seen or heard…
"David! David!"
A familiar voice echoed throughout the darkness, breaking the silence as David started to open his eyes. He felt his head resting on something quite hard.
Then he looked up, finding himself staring at the chest of someone who was heavily armored.
"W-wha-" Suddenly, while trying to get up, he was bear hugged by Mary.
"You're up! Are you okay? Is everything still hurting? Do you feel any more wounds?"
David coughed for a little bit as he collected himself before patting Mary on the back. He didn't feel anything wrong with his body, in fact he felt like he just got a full night's sleep.
"No, I'm alright; I think I'm back to full health."
He then activated his screen, finding that his HP was back at full.
"Yeah, did you heal me?"
Mary gave a reassuring nod while she held his hand.
"Y-you were out cold a-and you were bleeding out too! I was going to help earlier but…" She then looked up.
David followed her line of sight, finding that he was laying on Aelwenna's lap of armor as she stared down at him.
"Uhm, Madam Aelwenna told me that it was okay. So I let it happen."
"And I was right wasn't I? You have a lot of courage and stupidity running into that fight. I was made to see if you could handle it, looks like you can."
She stood up, narrowing her eyes as he felt as if she was staring right into his soul.
"I-I guess so… but, he still got really hurt."
"But he gained a lot of experience and levels from that I reckon, right?" The Paladin turned to look at David who awkwardly stood up, dusting himself off while he asked Thamiel.
"Did I?"
"No, you will only get it at the end of this mission. However, you do have access to all your Sets abilities, but if you don't equip them, they will be equal to your current level."
David stopped to think on how to phrase his next words properly. He felt as if every single word of his was monitored as if he was back on the airship.
"I gained something out of it, but I don't think we should waste any more time lying around, we have a mission to complete. Where's Antonio?"
Aelwenna then began to walk to one of the buildings, breaking down a wall with one hit as it revealed a massive lobby filled with not greenery but instead a field of pulsating pustules full of pus.
Instead of pillars there were spires of darkened flesh, and instead of a ceiling there was this strange fleshy and hairy surface that moved erratically.
In the center of it all was Antonio's orb which was scanning the area. It noticed that Aelwenna broke open the wall, floating towards her and then yelled out.
"We found a Chasm Entrance!"
