Chapter 54: Chapter 54: An old love invites you, and your heart is in turmoil
Su Ran returned to the old house where he had been arguing with Xu Tianna. He endured the stomachache, chewed chewable tablets, and lay on the sofa to relieve it. Xu Tianna poured a glass of boiled water and handed it to him, and then sat down opposite him.
"Are you feeling better?" she asked softly.
"It will be fine after a short rest." Su Ran responded weakly.
Xu Tianna nodded slightly and said, "I'll take you home when you feel better."
Su Ran sat up straight with pain: "Where can I go back?"
"Aren't you staying with a friend temporarily? I'll take you back there."
Su Ran replied with some annoyance: "Can't you have a little compassion? I'm a patient now."
Xu Tianna still looked indifferent: "This is my house, not a hospital. Why must I take in a patient like you? If you feel that you are not in good health, I can take you to the hospital."
Su Ran stopped talking and lay back on the sofa, pretending to be unwilling to care. The two sides fell into a cold war deadlock again due to disagreements.
A moment later, the phone in Su Ran's pocket vibrated. He leaned over to take out his phone and saw that it was an unfamiliar number, with the location shown as Shanghai. Full of doubts, he answered the phone: "Hello, who is this?"
After a brief silence on the other end of the phone, a voice came: "It's me, Lin Yue."
Su Ran's thoughts froze instantly, his mind was blank, and even the stomachache seemed to disappear. After a long time, he responded woodenly: "What's the matter?"
"Come out and sit down, see you at the old place."
Before Su Ran could react, Lin Yue had hung up the phone. She was still as decisive as before, never giving him room to refuse. Just like when they broke up that year, he accepted it without resistance and never asked the reason.
The phone had been hung up for a long time, but Su Ran's heart was still shaking. But there was one thing he was sure of in his heart, if she invited him, he would definitely go, even if they were just ordinary friends now.
Su Ran slowly put the phone back into his pocket and said to Xu Tianna, "I'm going out to meet a friend. Please leave the door open."
"Go quickly. There's no need to leave the door open. See if there's anything else of yours in the house and take it all away."
At this moment, Su Ran had no intention of arguing with Xu Tianna. He looked at her again, then turned and walked out the door. His stomach still ached, but the pain in his heart was even stronger.
Su Ran stood outside the community, waiting for a taxi, and wondered in his heart where the old place Lin Yue was talking about was. Was it the music restaurant full of memories? Or the path along the moat where they once walked? He couldn't be sure. This just shows that in the city of Suzhou, they left too many memories, too many corners where they once lingered, and each place carried an unforgettable past.
In the end, Su Ran decided to go to the moat. Once, it was a place they had to go every evening. They laughed and played by the river and enjoyed the picturesque scenery together.
A quarter of an hour later, Su Ran came to the moat, chose the road they walked the most in the past, and sat down slowly on the lawn. The stomachache continued, and he lit a cigarette to try to calm his inner anxiety. He didn't know why Lin Yue suddenly asked him out, nor did he know what kind of mood he should face her, let alone what to say after meeting. Time flies, and the intimacy of the past has now turned into a heart full of confusion.
Half an hour later, Lin Yue still didn't show up. In the cold autumn wind, Su Ran finally realized that he might have chosen the wrong place. Perhaps at this moment, Lin Yue is waiting in the music restaurant.
He hurriedly took out his mobile phone to dial, but found that Lin Yue's phone was busy. Just as he hung up the phone, Lin Yue's phone called back, thinking that they just happened to call each other at the same time.
After the call was connected, Lin Yue told her that she was in the restaurant. Su Ran said that he was by the river. He said he would go to find her, but she said he came to find him. Su Ran naturally obeyed her wishes. After ending the call, he fell into a new round of waiting.
Su Ran felt a little disappointed. He had failed to guess the old place in Lin Yue's heart. Could it be that their hearts had drifted apart? Thinking of this, the breakup that year seemed destined.
The autumn wind swept through the night, and the neon lights reflected everything around him. By the seemingly beautiful moat, Su Ran lit another cigarette, watching the smoke rise and then gradually dissipate.
Twenty minutes later, a Cadillac CTS slowly stopped on the shore. This top-of-the-line luxury car was a graduation gift given to Lin Yue by her father three years ago. It was this car, like a sharp blade, that abruptly separated them from their simple campus romance. Su Ran still clearly remembers that day when Lin Yue drove him for a ride in the new car, he forced a smile, but in his heart he painfully anticipated their final outcome, and the fact was indeed so.
Lin Yue opened the car door and got out of the car. She was wearing a short leather jacket, paired with slightly loose gray and white casual pants, her hair was simply tied up, and her outfit was quite casual, completely different from the last time she was seen in the bar, wearing all luxurious brands, which made people dare not look directly at her.
Su Ran did not dare to look directly at her, turned his head slightly, took a deep puff of cigarette, and half of the cigarette turned into a cigarette butt in an instant.
The familiar perfume smell on Lin Yue drifted into Su Ran's nose, and he finally raised his head and looked at her, and asked stiffly: "What do you want to ask me out for?"
Lin Yue sat down gently beside him: "Do I have to have a reason to ask you out?"
Su Ran tried to relax himself a little, and forced a smile and asked: "Didn't you go to Nanjing with Lu Chen? Why did you come back so soon?"
"I have my own arrangements."
"That's natural, you always do this." Su Ran followed her words, but was speechless for a moment, not knowing what to talk to her about, so he lit another cigarette, stared blankly at the river surface wrinkled by the wind, and his heart was confused and uneasy.
Lin Yue gently took the cigarette from between his fingers, looked at him and said: "Don't smoke in front of ladies, you should be more gentlemanly."
Su Ran's mouth twitched slightly, and he was secretly surprised. Lin Yue actually asked him to be more gentlemanly. Time has really changed a lot. In the past, she played with him and even smoked a cigarette together, but now, she has become very alienated from his world, and he seemed to be trapped in the same place, and could only watch her go away stupidly.
After a long silence, Su Ran finally spoke: "Tell me, why did you ask me out? You and I shouldn't just be here blowing in the cold wind."
Despite these words, Su Ran was willing to sit here with her for a night, carefully observing her appearance three years later, letting her know how much he missed her lively eyes, her slightly upturned mouth, her beautiful smile, her calm face, her unique feminine charm, her love that seemed to blame but was actually concerned, her soft whispers in his arms, and their panting after being intimate.
He loved everything about her, and all the time he spent with her. But now she was like a kite with a broken string. He could only hold the remaining string and helplessly watch her drift away, disappearing in the afterglow of the evening, leaving endless memories lingering in his heart.
A feeling of loss, melancholy and reluctance surged in Su Ran's heart like a tide. He didn't know where this meeting would lead, nor did he know whether they would meet in the future. He just waited quietly for Lin Yue's next words in this bleak autumn night, as if the whole world only had the two of them, endless memories and an unknown tomorrow.
