Chapter 17 The Descendant of the Celestial Warrior
"So, what do you want to do?"
Seeing Ye Chen's dejected expression, Zhang Xinlan felt a twinge of guilt and an unpleasant feeling in her heart.
"Give me a hug, a reason to stay strong!" Ye Chen finally mustered up the courage.
When Zhang Xinlan heard Ye Chen's words, it felt like ten million alpacas were running wild in her heart. Still, seeing Ye Chen looking so lost, she felt like she truly owed him something. This sense of guilt came out of nowhere, and she felt as if she really had let him down.
"I can only give you a gentle hug!" Zhang Xinlan stated her bottom line.
"Okay!" Ye Chen was momentarily stunned.
Dear heavens above, Ye Chen swore he hadn't thought that far; he just wanted a simple hug.
But seeing Zhang Xinlan close her eyes with an anxious look, Ye Chen almost laughed so hard he peed.
"..."
Zhang Xinlan was very nervous; she anticipated Ye Chen's hug and then wanted to be free of any complications.
However, out of the corner of her eye, Zhang Xinlan suddenly spotted a figure hiding outside the door watching them.
"Ah!"
"Ah!"
Liu Shihua and Zhang Xinlan screamed at the same time. Zhang Xinlan was in Ye Chen's arms, so she panicked, while Liu Shihua was in disbelief, thinking Zhang Xinlan really had no taste in men, choosing such a bumpkin?
Breaking free from Ye Chen's embrace, Zhang Xinlan didn't even glance at Ye Chen as she grabbed Liu Shihua and ran away as if fleeing.
"It seems, my personal charm truly is unstoppable!" Ye Chen mused to himself after they left, convinced the earth itself couldn't halt his stride.
Zhang Xinlan dragged Liu Shihua to their room, then slammed the door shut, falling onto the soft, comfortable bed, burying her head deep into the down comforter, wanting to cut herself off from the world.
"Zhang Xinlan, you really don't have anything going on with that bumpkin, do you?"
Liu Shihua looked at the mortified Zhang Xinlan and felt something was off. These two couldn't possibly have something going on, could they?
Liu Shihua was supposed to rest, but her gossip-loving heart suddenly sprang to life. She quietly followed behind them, hoping to uncover some secret.
However, Liu Shihua did uncover a huge secret; Zhang Xinlan actually took the initiative to throw herself into his arms, a revelation that struck Liu Shihua like a seismic shock!
"Shihua, you're invading my privacy!" Zhang Xinlan suddenly sat up, visibly upset as she glared at Liu Shihua.
"I wasn't snooping! I was just passing by that room. It's not my fault you were doing something sneaky with the door open!" Liu Shihua wouldn't admit to spying on them.
"You!" Zhang Xinlan's face was flushed, whether from embarrassment or anger.
Liu Shihua, marveling at the sight, thought Zhang Xinlan had never before acted so childishly.
"Zhang Xinlan, you haven't really fallen for him, have you?" Liu Shihua cautiously probed.
At these words, Zhang Xinlan almost spat out blood, thinking, 'Could you be any more blunt?'
"Zhang Xinlan, you possess a beauty that could overthrow cities, a grace that could sink fish and fell geese, he's just a bumpkin and not worthy of you. Don't capsize in the gutter!" Liu Shihua advised, seeing Zhang Xinlan as a flawless goddess, the man worthy of her probably hasn't been born yet.
"Shihua, do you even think before you speak? I barely know him, how could I fall for him!" Zhang Xinlan was going crazy, clutching her chest in pain.
"Then why did you let him kiss you? If I hadn't discovered you two, wouldn't you have ended up sleeping in his room?" Liu Shihua pointed out a critical flaw, logically speaking.
"I—" Zhang Xinlan was speechless. Indeed, why had she let Ye Chen kiss her?
Zhang Xinlan only remembered how Ye Chen asked her for a reason to keep going, but why had she given him that reason? Moreover, when he suggested kissing, Zhang Xinlan had even said a mouth-to-mouth was fine. Realizing this, Zhang Xinlan held her head in despair. What was all this about?
Seeing Zhang Xinlan frantically pulling at her hair, Liu Shihua grew even more convinced; there must be some trickery between these two, as lovers often act irrationally.
"Zhang Xinlan, don't worry, I'll make sure to give Ye Chen a raise. Then he can marry you grandly!" Liu Shihua boldly declared.
Liu Shihua had made up her mind to help Ye Chen rise from rags to riches and marry the rich beauty, stepping into the pinnacle of life!
"But Zhang Xinlan, you really have intense tastes, even finding Ye Chen appealing when he's so unsophisticated. I mean, with all those rich and handsome men chasing you, none moved you. Turns out that's not your cup of tea!" Liu Shihua sighed deeply.
"Ah! Liu Shihua, what nonsense are you spouting? You big jerk!" Zhang Xinlan, ignoring her usually goddess-like image, pounced on Liu Shihua and they tussled on the bed.
...
Warm water rained down from the showerhead as Ye Chen was bathing.
Ye Chen had set out from his hometown two days ago and, after several changes, finally arrived here, the journey's dust bringing him an inexplicable fatigue.
Ye Chen could be considered tall, standing about one hundred eighty centimeters. He boasted divine strength, yet his body was not burstingly muscular, rather it was very well-proportioned.
Water droplets clung to Ye Chen's hair, trickling down past the corner of his eyes as he gently rubbed his sweat-soaked body and tenderly touched a fierce tattoo on his left chest.
The Dragon Head!
Ye Chen had a Dragon Head tattoo etched on him, vividly depicting a dragon as if it were roaring from the heavens above.
In Huaxia, dragons were the subject of long-standing legends, symbolizing nobility and supremacy.
In ancient times, emperors were considered real Dragon Sons of Heaven, supreme among the nine dragons, which spoke volumes about the esteemed place of dragons in Huaxia's history.
The Dragon Head tattoo marked on Ye Chen was the highest honor bestowed on him by the military; he once had a nickname—King!
King, a title filled with legend.
Huadong, Huanan, Huaxi, and Huabei were the four Great Military Regions, each had a King, and they were the King of kings!
Among these four great Kings, Ye Chen was the youngest. His overall abilities were somewhat inferior to those of the three elder Kings, yet his individual combat capability was undeniably the strongest, simply because he was young, and his vital energy was at its peak.
Ye Chen belonged to the Huabei Military Region, the brightest rising star of this region, but he quietly retired from the military a year ago for violating regulations.
Thinking of that incident, even now in his destitution, Ye Chen did not regret it, as that person truly deserved to die!
Ye Chen was an orphan from a young age, his mother died giving birth to him and his father passed away a few years later, their fate largely attributed to the Ye Family's methods, which were against the heavens!
There was an ancient text in Ye Chen's home which documented his ancestor, the ancient Divine Doctor Ye Tianshi, known as Immortal Ye!
Ancestor Ye was a monk who inherited the ways of Kunlun; he was not only a divine physician but also a practitioner.
However, Ye Tianshi's mystic practices were against the heavenly law, unacceptable to the heavens and earth, and reaching certain levels of cultivation drew divine punishment.
Ye Tianshi amassed the aura of virtue through his lifetime, healing and benefiting the people, which ultimately saved him from divine retribution.
But humans decay, and before his death, Ye Tianshi left behind the Tianshi Heart Scripture, documenting his profound and mystifying cultivation techniques.
Ye Tianshi passed down his knowledge, not wishing his miraculous methods to be lost but also warning his descendants not to practice his techniques.
After Ancestor Ye's ascension, every generation of the Ye Family revered the Tianshi Heart Scripture, yet among them were willful members who couldn't resist the allure of extraordinary powers and, disregarding their ancestor's warnings, practiced from the Tianshi Heart Scripture.
Members of the Ye Family practiced the forbidden techniques and acquired an incomprehensible force, but this was against the heavenly laws, and soon after, they angered the heavens. Divine Thunder struck, annihilating the entire Ye Family.
However, some direct descendants of the Ye Family survived, but from then on, the descendants of this line all kept low profiles, deeply hidden among the populace.
Ye Chen's mother had a complication during his birth, an acute hemorrhage leading to her death. Mr. Ye, deeply in love with his wife, remembered the Tianshi Heart Scripture left by their ancestor, and believed that cultivating the mystical techniques could resurrect Ms. Ye!
Years later, Mr. Ye mastered the techniques and was preparing to revive Ms. Ye when he also attracted divine retribution and ultimately died violently.
"Ridiculous, tragic, lamentable."
After his bath, Ye Chen lay in bed and let out a desolate laugh as he thought of his father's violent death.
The affairs of Ye Chen's family were unknown to others, all discovered by Ye Chen as he grew up reading his father's personal journals.
His parents had died early, and Ye Chen didn't have many memories of them, but he was after all the continuation of his parents' lives, so whenever he thought of the past, he couldn't help but sigh deeply.
"The mystic techniques left by our ancestor are indeed profound, but the medical skills our ancestor left are truly unrivaled. It's sad that countless generations of the Ye Family only focused on the profound techniques, neglecting the life-saving skills left by our ancestor!" Ye Chen sighed.
