Faulty Utopia

Chapter 6: Chapter 6 Bullet Flight

```
The metal corridor that had once trapped Sun Jack was now completely twisted and deformed, the impact force from the space station's landing must have been enormous, with even some areas showing signs of being burnt.
Various parts that had floated in mid-air were now scattered all over the ground, including the robots. They appeared to be severely damaged and were in pieces everywhere.
Rainwater kept dripping down through the cracks, and puddles were beginning to form on the ground.
Having survived the ordeal, Sun Jack, along with his robot Tapai, moved through the wreckage of the space station, planning to leave the area to avoid the impending arrival of the lunatics.
But their pace was evidently too slow. A roaring sound came from above Jack's head as a ship burst through the rain and fog, heading their way.
The ship looked like an oversized sports car without wheels, covered in exaggerated graffiti, and what shocked Sun Jack even more was that there was a decaying corpse with its arms spread out tied to the front of the ship.
Sun Jack wasn't mistaken, it was indeed a corpse! Maggots were beginning to form in the bullet holes on its face!
At this moment, Sun Jack gained a whole new understanding of what Tapai referred to as the "Cyber Lunatics"; in any case, he definitely did not want to be discovered by these people.
"Quick! Hide!" Sun Jack quickly ducked behind a metal debris barrier with Tapai.
After the ship with the body attached swiftly flew past, another dilapidated helicopter approached.
When it was still more than a dozen meters from the ground, the helicopter's hatch flung open, and a man with a cockscomb haircut, covered in skull tattoos and holding guns in both hands, leapt out.
Midair, he pulled the trigger, shooting wildly around him, a maniacal laugh escaping from his gold-toothed mouth. "Hahaha! nunarjuaq tittinaqtillugu!"
As he drew closer, Sun Jack suddenly noticed the man's legs and feet were distinctly silver—clearly prosthetic.
With a "thud", the man with the cockscomb haircut heavily slammed down into the ruins of the space city, followed by several others dressed similarly jumping out from the Hover Car.
Conversations came from their direction, but Sun Jack couldn't understand a word.
"What are they saying?" Sun Jack whispered to Tapai.
"Connect to the local network, sync up locations, release all the drones! Something this big falling down has to have good stuff in it! Hurry up! Other people are rushing over here, if we're slow we won't even get soup."
Before Tapai could finish translating, a cannonball, trailing thick smoke, whooshed by, directly turning the flying ship above into a fireball.
"Damn it! They start fighting without a word! They're really freaking lunatics!" Taking advantage of the cover of the explosion, Sun Jack and Tapai quickly moved away from the vicinity of the blast.
The atmosphere among the wreckage of the space station was getting tense. With the sound of explosions, more and more people flew over, turning the ruins almost into a battlefield.
"Boom!" Another explosion sounded, and a massive fireball fell from the sky, nearly grazing the top of their heads.
Surrounded by danger on all sides, Sun Jack was on edge, observing the environment with a bitter feeling in his heart, "Why am I so unlucky, running into trouble everywhere."
"Tapai, where can we find some weapons nearby?" Sun Jack asked. In this situation, being without a weapon meant being totally vulnerable.
After the screen on Tapai's face flickered, it headed toward the wreckage on the left. "There, that's the security room."
After searching through the debris, Tapai handed a grey metallic rifle to Sun Jack.
"What is this?" Sun Jack weighed the heavy, cold weapon in his hands.
"Model: SOR-11:3 Technical Assault Rifle, it's powered by electricity."
"How do you use it?" As he looked at the lethal weapon in his hands, Sun Jack's breathing hastened.
"Hold it steady with both hands, rest this part against you, then just aim the muzzle at the enemy and pull the trigger. There's no time to aim in a close-quarters battle environment; whoever shoots first has the advantage. The reflex sight is adjusted for beginners."
Sun Jack practiced a few moves with it, the weighty weapon in his hands giving him slight relief. Although he now had a weapon, he still hoped he wouldn't have to use it.
"Let's get moving. How much longer until we're out of this space station's range?"
"Based on my radar display, considering our current speed, we should be out of the outer perimeter in about twenty minutes."
But before he could finish speaking, whoosh, Sun Jack felt a searing heat on his left ear followed immediately by numbness.
"Enemy attack." Before Sun Jack could react, the blue display on Tapai's head instantly turned red as he rapidly pulled the trigger in the direction from which the bullets were coming.
"Fuck!" Sun Jack, clutching his ear, moved toward the cover next to him. When he brought his hand down again, his palm was stained with blood.
A semi-circle had been shot out of the top of his left ear. If the bullet had been just a bit off, his head would have been history!
Grinding his teeth, Sun Jack cautiously peeked out from behind cover to eye the enemies that had ambushed him.
These people were hiding behind cover, shooting at Tapai. They looked like they belonged to a gang. Tattoos covered their faces and hands in a wild variety of patterns and they were spewing cursing profanities in a language he couldn't understand.
The only common mark was a cross, inverted at their necks.
What's more, like the people who had jumped from the Hover Car earlier, they had metal prosthetic bodies, to a greater or lesser extent.
When Sun Jack saw their bullets sparking as they hit Tapai, he immediately raised his gun and propped it against a sloped flame-retardant metal plate, quickly firing back at them.
At first, the recoil sent Jack's initial rounds skyward, but, as Tapai had said, the gun really was user-friendly. It wasn't long before an enemy's head was struck, jerking violently backward.
For Sun Jack, killing someone for the first time under such circumstances, there was no room for psychological pressure. In a situation like this, it was either them or him, and he wished he could take down even more.
"Tapai! Find cover!" Sun Jack shouted to the robot beside him.
Pocked with bullet holes, Tapai quickly retreated next to Sun Jack, who appeared to be temporarily safe.
"Boom!" A loud explosion went off, leaving both men behind cover in a wretched state.
"Their firepower is too strong. We can't compete. Look for a chance to retreat!" Tapai had to raise his voice amid the noisy environment.
"No shit! Of course, I know that. But with things the way they are, how do we get out?!" Sun Jack returned fire with a burst from his gun. To turn and flee now would be suicide.
But continuing the standoff wasn't viable either. Seeing they were only two, the enemy had started to send troops to flank them.
As Sun Jack anxiously struggled to think of a way out, intense gunfire erupted from the ruins on his left.
Hearing the shots, Sun Jack immediately had an idea. "Tapai! We retreat that way, let the dogs bite each other! We'll make our escape in the chaos!"
"Will that work?"
"Didn't you say their brains don't work well? Now's the time to test the truth of that! Besides, do you have a better plan right now?"
With that, Sun Jack began moving backward while pulling the trigger.
A few tense minutes later, gunfire was drawing closer behind them. Sun Jack could even catch glimpses of figures in the ruins through his peripheral vision, yet the two sides still hadn't engaged each other.
It was as if they shared an understanding, sticking to their respective targets.
A bedraggled Tapai leaned next to Sun Jack and said, "I told you it wouldn't work. They may be crazy, but they aren't stupid."
Sun Jack nodded in agreement, "That's right, which is why we need bait to get them to shoot at each other."
After speaking, Sun Jack gave Tapai an appreciative slap on the shoulder.
New images quickly flashed on Tapai's display. "⚆_⚆"
