Darkseid's voice echoed across the Phantom Zone like a god's decree. The air itself seemed to tremble under his words.
"You have danced long enough, Raiden Kagawa. Amusing though your efforts are, they pale before the power of true darkness. Now, you will witness the reason I stand as the Alpha and Omega of all universes."
As he spoke, his eyes burned a crimson so fierce it cast an eerie glow across the battlefield. From the cracked and barren ground beneath him, an oily blackness began to seep outward. It spread like blood spilled in water, slow yet unstoppable. The darkness consumed the fractured terrain, leaving behind nothingness, as though reality itself was being erased.
Raiden narrowed his eyes. His instincts screamed at him to move, and he responded instantly. With a thought, his form shifted. A golden aura enveloped him, reshaping his armor into that of Achilles, his fastest Servant. The radiant light of the Greek hero stood in sharp contrast to the encroaching void.
The moment his transformation completed, he bolted. His speed blurred him into a streak of gold, narrowly evading tendrils of darkness that lashed out like whips. The shadows moved with a will of their own, intelligent and relentless, striking where Raiden was rather than where he had been.
But something far more sinister was taking shape.
The ground beneath Darkseid pulsed, then trembled violently. Raiden skidded to a stop, his sharp eyes catching movement where there should have been none. The blackened earth heaved upward, split, and from its depths, massive shadowy hands clawed their way into existence.
Each hand was as large as a skyscraper, their edges indistinct, as though formed of liquid shadow. They gripped the ground with crushing force, pulling upward to reveal a nightmarish figure. Its body was an amorphous mass of pure darkness, with hollow, glowing eyes that burned with malice. The monstrosity let out a scream—a sound so unearthly that it seemed to tear at the very fabric of the Phantom Zone.
Raiden didn't wait. He sprinted forward, his speed creating shockwaves as he closed the distance in seconds. His plan was simple: strike before the creature could stabilize. With Achilles' spear in hand, he lunged, aiming for the heart of the beast.
But the monstrosity was faster than it appeared. A massive shadowed fist swung toward him, forcing Raiden to somersault backward mid-air. The ground where he had stood shattered, chunks of rock sent flying like missiles.
Raiden landed, but the beast was relentless. Another fist barreled toward him, and though Achilles' speed allowed him to dodge, the creature's sheer size forced him on the defensive. Each blow it delivered sent shockwaves through the battlefield, craters forming with every missed strike.
Finally, Raiden saw an opening. He surged forward, his spear glowing as he drove it into the monstrosity's side. The creature recoiled, a deep rumble echoing from within, but no wound appeared. The darkness simply closed over the strike, as though nothing had happened.
Darkseid watched the exchange with a cruel smile. His voice was a growl, low and menacing. "You misunderstand, Raiden. This is not a beast to be slain. It is a fragment of me—a shadow of my will. And it will break you."
The monstrosity roared in agreement, its arms splitting into four, each one swinging at Raiden with the force of a hurricane. Raiden dodged with precision, but the speed and coordination of the attacks began to close in on him.
Then, from the side, a tendril of shadow lashed out, striking him in the back. The impact hurled him forward, straight into the path of a descending fist. Raiden barely managed to raise his spear in defense as the blow sent him crashing into the ground, the impact creating a massive crater.
Dazed but defiant, Raiden stood, his armor dented but his spirit unbroken.
"You'll have to do better than that," he said, his voice sharp with determination.
Darkseid chuckled. "Oh, I will."
His Omega Beams erupted, streaking toward Raiden like serpents. Achilles' speed allowed him to evade the deadly energy blasts, but each missed beam carved through the landscape, obliterating whatever it touched. Raiden moved in a blur, weaving through the onslaught, until—
Darkseid appeared in front of him. With inhuman speed, the tyrant swung a fist, aiming for Raiden's chest. Achilles' instincts kicked in, and Raiden twisted away, the blow narrowly missing him but shattering the ground beneath.
Raiden rolled to his feet, panting but smiling. "Two-on-one, huh? Fair enough."
Darkseid's smile widened. "Two-on-one? No, Raiden Kagawa. This is annihilation."
Before Raiden could retort, the monstrosity lunged again, its shadowy mass shifting into a writhing storm of tendrils and fists. Raiden dashed to the side, his form a golden streak, but even Achilles' unparalleled speed could not keep him safe forever.
A tendril snaked through his defenses, slamming into his shoulder and spinning him mid-air. Another followed, striking his back and hurling him toward Darkseid.
Darkseid caught him with one massive hand, gripping Raiden by the throat. His glowing red eyes bored into Raiden's, and for the first time, Raiden felt the weight of Darkseid's full power.
"This ends now," Darkseid declared, his Omega Beams igniting again.
Point-blank, the beams seared into Raiden's face. Achilles' divine armor absorbed much of the attack, but the sheer force left him gasping in pain. Smoke rose from his scorched helmet as Darkseid hurled him into the ground.
Raiden struggled to rise, but from the void, more shadowy hands erupted. They gripped his arms, legs, and torso, pinning him in place. Around him, ten more monstrosities emerged, each one a towering abomination.
Floating above, Darkseid spread his arms wide, his voice resonating with absolute authority.
"Behold, the end of light. Darkness is not merely power—it is the universe in its purest form. And I am its herald."
Above him, a sphere of darkness began to form. It pulsed with malevolent energy, growing larger with every second. Its gravitational force warped the very fabric of reality, pulling debris and light into its depths.
Raiden struggled against the shadowy hands, but they held firm. He could only watch as the sphere swelled, its size eclipsing mountains.
"Darkness Unleashed: Sphere of Dark Matter!"
The massive sphere descended, its weight and energy crushing everything in its path. The ten monstrosities holding Raiden made no attempt to flee—they were sacrifices to Darkseid's will.
The impact was cataclysmic. The sphere detonated, releasing a shockwave that obliterated the Phantom Zone. The cracks from their earlier battles spread, and with one final explosion, the dimension itself collapsed.
Darkseid stood alone in the void, his form a monolith against the backdrop of stars. In the distance, the shattered remnants of the Phantom Zone revealed Titan's moon.
No trace of Raiden remained.
Darkseid raised his arms, triumphant. "The forces of light have been vanquished. I, Darkseid, proclaim to the gods of light and all who oppose me: your time is over. The universe is mine."
Silence reigned, the void itself bowing in submission to its master.
...
Raiden drifted in an endless expanse of light, weightless and disoriented. The air around him was thick, oppressive, and seemed to hum with a celestial resonance. His body ached as if every fiber of his being had been torn apart and haphazardly stitched back together.
With great effort, he pushed himself upright. The light seemed to part before him, revealing a figure of unparalleled beauty. She radiated a regal presence, her form glowing with a warmth that was both comforting and heart-wrenching. Her golden hair flowed like streams of sunlight, and her emerald eyes held the depth of ancient forests.
Raiden's breath caught in his throat. He knew this woman. He had named the entire planet after her—the mother of life itself.
"Gaia…" he whispered, his voice trembling with reverence.
The woman smiled, but her expression was tinged with sorrow. Tears cascaded down her cheeks, glimmering like liquid diamonds. She looked at him not as a goddess, but as a mother mourning her child's pain.
"I see… I must have lost, haven't I?" Raiden said, his voice heavy with despair. "I'm sorry, Mother. I tried my best. But… he was unstoppable. The power he held—it was beyond anything I've ever faced. No attack, no strategy… nothing could harm him."
His voice cracked as he continued, "Zephyr… my son… my wives, my friends. I failed them all. I failed the world."
Gaia's tears did not stop, but her smile softened. She stepped closer, her voice a melodic whisper filled with sadness and love. "Raiden… you haven't failed me, nor have you truly lost. If anyone has failed, it is I, for I could not protect you from what I warned against."
Raiden frowned, confusion etched across his face. "What do you mean?"
Gaia raised her hand, her fingers trembling as she pointed to his chest.
Raiden looked down, expecting to see the familiar scar—the mark left by the Outer God, a reminder of his torment over the past two years. But what he saw froze his blood.
The scar was gone. In its place was a gaping, black void—a darkened eye, swirling with an ominous energy. It seemed to pulse like a heartbeat, showing visions of apocalyptic chaos, as if it were a portal to the end of time itself.
"No… What is this?!" Raiden's voice was laced with panic. "The scar… the Outer God's mark! Why has it become this?!"
Gaia dropped to her knees, her sobs echoing through the expanse of light. Her radiant glow dimmed as her grief overtook her. "I'm sorry, my son. I tried… I tried to save you from it. That darkness—it is stronger than I. It is one of the Creators. Its mark was not upon your body but your very soul, and the soul is the most precious and vulnerable part of a human."
Raiden's mind raced. "Is that why I could never see you? Why I couldn't speak to you all this time? Because you were protecting me?"
Gaia nodded, her tears staining the ground beneath her. "Yes, Raiden. I shielded you as best I could, using all my strength to slow its spread. But darkness is relentless. It is the ultimate force, and it used your soul as a gateway to existence. Now… now I can no longer hold it back."
She reached out, cupping his face with trembling hands. "Raiden, we don't have much time. Please, listen to me. Stay strong. Do not lose yourself to it. This darkness… it has awakened your Alter self—the part of you born from despair and rage. You must resist it, no matter what."
Before Raiden could respond, the light around him began to dim. Darkness seeped into the space like ink spreading across a canvas. Gaia's form flickered, her voice becoming faint.
"Raiden, remember who you are… do not let the darkness take you…"
And then she was gone.
Raiden stood alone in the encroaching darkness. The silence was deafening, broken only by the faint sound of his own breathing. Then, from the shadows, a figure emerged.
It was him—or rather, a reflection of him. The doppelgänger was identical in every physical detail, yet fundamentally different. Its eyes were voids of pure darkness, devoid of emotion or light. Its posture exuded malice and dominance.
Raiden's fists clenched as he took a step back. "Who are you?"
The copy's lips curled into a cruel smile. Its voice was cold and hollow, yet somehow it carried an overwhelming presence.
"It is Time to Let go, Child of Light, I Will take over from now on"
Before Raiden could respond, the shadow lunged at him. It moved with terrifying speed, and when it struck, the impact sent Raiden reeling. He tried to fight back, summoning the golden aura of his light, but the darkness consumed it effortlessly, It was as if Raiden tried to fight, but didn't want too, as if he wanted it to take over
In the end, the light dimmed.
When the darkness cleared, Raiden stood again. But this was no longer the man who fought to protect the world.
This was Raiden Alter—a being of pure destruction, born of darkness and driven by an insatiable desire to annihilate all who stood in his way.
And his first target was clear: Darkseid.
