Fated to a human

Chapter 26: Chapter 26

Melody POV

Time had passed, but I had no idea how late it was when a sudden bang jolted me awake. My heart pounded fiercely, and I shot upright in bed, scanning my room in the darkness. The noise echoed again, louder this time, making me jump.

What was that?

I took a deep breath, trying to calm the panic surging through me. Living in a house with rogue wolves was never easy. They were reckless, ruled by anger and chaos. Whatever this is, it can't be good.

Gathering my courage, I slipped out of bed and crept toward the noise, my bare feet moving silently on the wooden floor.

As I neared the source, muffled voices reached my ears. My heart raced as I recognized the voices of my brothers—Kyle, Xanden, and Stephan.

They were on the porch, their heated argument spilling into the quiet night. I pressed myself against the wall, trying to stay hidden, and peeked through a small gap in the curtain. The sight made my stomach twist.

Kyle's eyes were still red from his wolf form, his face twisted in fury. He smashed something against the porch railing, the sound splitting the air like a gunshot. That brother of mine has serious control issues, I thought bitterly, though fear coiled in my chest.

Their voices grew clearer as I focused on their conversation.

"She's close," Kyle growled, his voice thick with menace. "Haylie's within our reach. And I don't care who I have to kill to get to her."

My breath caught, and my eyes widened. Haylie?

"She must be determined by now," Xanden added, his tone sharp and calculating. " I could already taste her blood , I wanted to see her how she lost every life in her eyes" says Kyle with wicked voice.

I felt like the ground beneath me was crumbling. They're planning something—something terrible.

Kyle's anger was a storm, and his words were a death sentence for anyone standing in his way.

Panic rose in my chest, but with it came a grim resolve. I have to stop this. I can't let them hurt Haylie. If it means turning myself in to her. I have to protect her.

But first, I had to warn JC. He was the only one who could help me put a stop to this madness.

Moving cautiously, I backed away from the curtain and crept down the hallway, my every step slow and deliberate to avoid making a sound.

My brothers' voices faded slightly as I distanced myself from the porch.

I prayed to the moon and stars that I could make it out of the house unnoticed. For Haylie's sake—and for everyone else's—I can't fail.

I had to find JC. I knew he'd be at his usual spot, the place where he went to clear his mind. This was serious, and I couldn't let anyone die because of my brothers—especially Kyle. He was ruthless, cold-hearted, and twisted in ways I couldn't even begin to describe.

He would kill a human without a second thought, without a flicker of hesitation. He has no soul, I thought bitterly. And the worst part? All three of them—Kyle, Xanden, and Stephan—were just as wicked.

I hurried through the forest, my feet moving swiftly on the familiar ground. I needed to get to JC before it was too late.

As I reached the cliff's edge, I slowed to a stop. Sure enough, there he was—sitting on his favorite rock, staring out into the night sky. This was his spot, the one place where he could escape the chaos of our home.

"I thought I'd find you here," I called out softly as I approached him and sat down beside him on the rock.

"You found me," he said, his voice distant as he continued to stare at the darkened skyline, the stars above reflecting in his eyes.

I took a deep breath, trying to steady the urgency in my chest. "I know you've always been against everything, but Kyle and the others… they're planning to kill Haylie."

At my words, JC's head snapped toward me. His expression darkened instantly, his brow furrowing in deep concern. "What do you mean? Did you hear something?"

I swallowed hard, fighting to keep my composure. "I overheard them. They just came back from the town. Kyle said they were so close to getting to Haylie, but it seems someone stopped them just in time."

JC's face paled as his blue eyes went cold. "Haylie," he whispered, his voice full of shock.

I placed my hand gently on his shoulder, feeling the tension radiate from his stiff body. "I have to do this, JC. For Liam and Haylie. I need to protect her from them."

JC rose from his seat on the rock, his pace quickening as he began to pace back and forth. "How sure are you that this will work?" he asked, his voice laced with concern.

I stood up to face him, my resolve firm despite the uncertainty swirling in my chest. "It will work," I promised, trying to sound more confident than I felt. "I just need a pinch of her hair, and then it'll be done."

JC stopped abruptly, turning to look at me, his expression darkening. "If this is a spell from our mother, we're talking about using black magic." His voice was heavy with worry.

I let out a deep sigh, my breath shaky as the weight of the situation pressed on me. "I know," I admitted.

The danger was real, but I had no other choice. "Melody's black magic... you know it's no good. You've seen what it did to Mom. Once you start using it, it grows inside you. It starts to consume you."

His face twisted with concern, and for a moment, he looked just like Xanden. The same warning, the same fear. I couldn't help but raise my voice. "I know, okay?"

JC's eyes widened in surprise, and he stopped pacing. "What are you saying?" he asked, his voice softer now.

I took a deep breath, feeling my heart race in my chest.

"I know the risks, JC. But I don't want anyone to die. And if I don't do this, nothing will stop Kyle. He'll kill her." I could feel my breath quicken as I spoke, the words rushing out of me. "I'm doing this because there's nothing else I can do."

My heart hammered in my chest, and for a moment, everything seemed too overwhelming. But I couldn't back down now. I wouldn't let my brothers' darkness take someone else's life.

My eyes met JC's, and I could see the worry etched in his expression. "Melody, I just don't want to lose you. I love you," he said, his voice filled with a quiet desperation. "You are my little sister"

A small, reassuring smile crossed my lips, despite the heaviness in my chest. "You won't lose me," I promised softly. "And if it gets too much, I'll pull out. We'll figure something else out, I swear."

I stepped closer to him, placing my hand gently on his upper arm. Our eyes locked, the weight of our shared history and bond hanging between us. "We have to do something… anything," I urged, my voice firm but laced with emotion.

He stared at me for a long moment, his gaze heavy with concern, before letting out a long, exhausted sigh. "So long as no one gets hurt in this plan..." he said, his voice tinged with a mix of caution and reluctant agreement.

"No one will get hurt" I promise my brother. I know the risk was high because I was already using black magic. MY brothers just did not know about it. This spell would be easy and I will try my best to keep Haylie save even if it cost my own life.

Haylie POV

I awoke from a deep, fulfilling sleep. I hadn't rested this well in ages—like a baby, completely at peace. As I slowly came to, I realized I was curled up on the pillow of the sofa. There was no sign of Liam.

I pushed myself up, stretching and rubbing the sleep from my eyes. Where was he? The big screen was off, and from the quiet stillness of the room, I guessed it was probably around seven in the morning.

I slipped out of the warmth of the blanket and looked around. The room was silent, almost too quiet.

My eyes then landed on the sliding door—it was slightly ajar. That was strange.

I yawned, still waking up fully, and walked toward the door. The sunlight greeted me as I opened it further.

Now that it was daylight, I could see the lush garden outside, bathed in soft golden light. I stepped outside, inhaling deeply the fresh scent of flowers and the sweet melody of birds singing in the distance. It was a perfect morning.

Closing my eyes for a moment, I breathed in the beauty of nature, then exhaled slowly, hoping to ease the sudden tension in my chest.

Liam must be nearby, I thought, maybe at the spot where we had shared ice cream last night and looked at the stars.

I wandered through the garden, letting the tips of my fingers brush against the petals of the flowers, feeling their delicate softness beneath my touch. But then, I heard it. Footsteps.

I froze, my heart pounding. I scanned the area, but saw no one. What was that?

Trying to dismiss the uneasy feeling creeping over me, I continued walking, but then I heard it again—this time, it was the distinct sound of something snapping underfoot, like a stick.

The noise was coming from behind me.

My body went cold as I turned around, and my breath hitched in my throat. Standing there, just a few feet away, was a large grey wolf, its blue eyes locked onto mine.

A gasp escaped my lips, and a tremor ran through my body as I took a step back.

Tears stung my eyes as fear coursed through my veins. The wolf was right there, staring at me, its presence overwhelming.

I lifted my hand instinctively, as if that would stop it, and then, without thinking, I turned and bolted. My heart raced, pounding in my chest as I ran as fast as I could, my breath ragged in my ears.

I heard the sound of paws hitting the ground behind me, and I knew—it was chasing me.

"Oh shit," my mind screamed.

My legs felt like they would give out at any moment, but I forced myself to keep running, each step more labored than the last.

Tears streamed down my cheeks, blurring my vision as memories of that night in the woods flooded back. Why was this happening again? Why couldn't I escape this nightmare? And where was Liam when I needed him most?

I stumbled upon the cliff—the same spot where Liam and I had shared a peaceful moment under the stars just last night.

My heart sank as I realized I had run straight into a dead end. The drop was steep and unforgiving, leaving me no way out.

Panting heavily, I turned around, my back to the edge, trembling as I faced the wolf. Its blue eyes locked on me, its approach unrelenting, each stride echoing my impending doom. My tears fell harder as terror gripped me. Was this how I was going to die? Just like my mother, chased down by wolves?

I raised my hands defensively, my voice trembling. "Please, don't hurt me!" I pleaded, the words catching in my throat.

The wolf came to a sudden halt, skidding slightly as it stopped mere feet away from me. My breath hitched, and through the blur of my tears, I frowned in confusion. Its behavior wasn't what I expected.

Slowly, cautiously, I lowered my trembling hands to see what was happening.

My eyes widened as a sickening sound filled the air—the raw, unnatural crack of bones shifting and rearranging. The noise sent shivers down my spine as I watched in horrified disbelief.

Before my eyes, the wolf began to transform. Its fur receded, its limbs twisted and contorted, reshaping into a human form. My heart pounded painfully in my chest as I stood frozen, unable to comprehend what I was witnessing.

The transformation ended, leaving a man crouched on one knee, his head bowed. I recognized the dark hair, the strong, athletic build.

"Liam," I whispered, barely audible as my voice faltered.

He slowly rose to his feet, his movements deliberate and measured, as though trying not to startle me. Standing there, stark naked, was the man I thought I knew—the man who had been my safe haven.

"Haylie," he said softly, his voice a gentle plea. "Don't be scared. It's me."

I have heard stories of this my whole life but never wetness this in person how a wolve transform in a human and now I just wetness Liam the one man who I love so much.

Liam stood before me, his human form towering yet vulnerable, his eyes searching mine for understanding.

My gaze flickered over his muscular frame, but my thoughts were too frantic to focus.

As my eyes met his, a wave of dizziness overtook me. I opened my mouth to speak, but no words came. My legs gave out beneath me, and the world around me faded to black.

The last thing I saw before everything turned dark was Liam's worried face, calling my name.

My eyes fluttered open, vision hazy as the world slowly came into focus. The first thing I saw was Liam's face hovering above me, his expression etched with worry.

His deep blue eyes locked onto mine, a frown creasing his forehead.

"Haylie, can you hear me?" His voice echoed softly in my ears, pulling me further from the fog of unconsciousness.

I groaned lightly, trying to sit up, but my body felt heavy, my head pounding with a dull ache. As I moved, I realized I wasn't on the edge of the cliff anymore. Instead, I was lying on a bed—his bed—and the room around me was unmistakably Liam's.

The familiar scent of cedar and mint calmed me slightly.

I glanced up at him again, my pulse quickening. He was no longer naked; he had dressed in a casual blue shirt and jeans, but the memory of what I'd seen earlier flashed vividly in my mind.

I wiped at my eyes, trying to gather my thoughts, though the headache still lingered. "Liam…" I started, my voice shaky. "I saw you."

His jaw tensed slightly, but he didn't look away.

"You were a wolf and then turned in to a human," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. The words felt surreal leaving my lips, as if saying them out loud would make everything even harder to believe.

Liam's expression softened, and he reached out, taking my trembling hand in his. His touch was warm, grounding me amidst the storm of emotions swirling inside.

"You saw my wolf, Ace," he said gently, his thumb brushing lightly over my knuckles.

My brows furrowed in confusion. "Ace?"

He nodded, his gaze unwavering. "It's what we call it—my other side. My wolf. It's a part of me, Haylie."

My heart pounded in my chest, and I felt the tears prickling at the corners of my eyes again. "I never saw something like this, is this how it works" I whispered, pulling my hand back and wrapping my arms around myself.

Liam sighed heavily; his voice tinged with regret. "I am afraid it is how we transform in to wolf and back." As he continue I notice his voice become heavy " I wanted to show that part of me but I was scared of losing you Haylie and that you would think of me as monster."

I stared at him, the weight of everything he was saying pressing down on me.

Memories of the wolf's piercing blue eyes—his eyes—flashed in my mind. The way he had chased me, the raw sound of bones cracking as he transformed, and now this revelation.

"But you chased me," I said, my voice trembling. "You scared me, Liam. I thought I was going to die."

He winced, pain flashing across his face. "I didn't mean to scare you. I wasn't in control at first, Haylie. Ace was drawn to you, and when I realized it was you… I stopped. I shifted back because I didn't want to hurt you."

I held his gaze, my mind racing. Part of me wanted to run again, to get away from the overwhelming truth. But another part—the part that knew Liam, trusted him—wanted to stay and understand.

"Why now?" I finally asked. "Why did this happen now?"

Liam ran a hand through his dark hair, his shoulders slumping slightly. "It's complicated," he admitted. "But you deserve the truth. You deserve to know everything."

I swallowed hard, forcing my emotions deep inside as I got out of bed.

My legs felt numb as they touched the floor, but the sensation quickly faded as strength returned. It was hard to believe that this was the life my mother and father lived before they died.

My parents had a wolf like Liam, and they endured this countless times.

I walked to the window, craving the fresh air streaming in from outside. The stories I'd heard as a child echoed in my mind, tales of things I'd never expected to witness with my own eyes.

Liam's warm presence filled the space behind me, drawing my attention. I turned to face him, his voice breaking the silence.

"I don't want you to be afraid of me, Haylie," he said, his tone laced with love and reassurance.

Our eyes met, his deep brown gaze pulling me in. I could feel him moving closer, his presence both intimidating and comforting. "I would never hurt you, Haylie," he said softly, his voice low and soothing.

When he stopped in front of me, his hand gently cupped the side of my face.

His touch was warm and calming, like a blanket of security wrapping around me. I closed my eyes, leaning into his touch as silent tears streaked down my cheeks.

This was overwhelming, yet in some corner of my heart, I'd always known it would come to this. Liam had a wolf, just as his father did, just as my parents had. This was my world, and I had to accept it.

"Haylie," Liam said, drawing my name out like a lifeline. I opened my eyes, meeting his gaze through my tears. "I don't want you to fear me or my wolf," he continued. "He would never hurt you. He loves you just as much as I do."

His hand fell from my cheek, and I watched as he stepped back. My confusion grew when he began pulling his shirt off, revealing his bare, athletic upper body.

"Liam, what are you doing?" I asked, my voice laced with worry. My heart raced, pounding against my ribcage.

"Don't scream," he warned, his tone serious.

Fear and anticipation churned within me as I watched him, unsure of what was about to unfold.

My eyes stayed locked on him, unable to look away as the transformation began. The sound of bones cracking filled the air, sharp and terrifying.

Each break and shift in his body echoed in my ears, sending chills down my spine. My hands flew to my mouth to stifle a gasp, but tears streamed freely down my cheeks as I watched Liam's human form dissolve, replaced by something primal and powerful.

His clothes tore apart as his body contorted, fur sprouting where skin once was.

Within seconds, a massive silver-gray wolf stood before me. Its striking blue eyes, so familiar yet otherworldly, stared back at me. My body trembled uncontrollably, my knees threatening to give way. Somehow, I remained upright, though it felt like a miracle.

"A-Ace?" I whispered, my voice shaking with fear.

The wolf dipped its head in a nod, confirming my suspicions. My throat tightened, and I swallowed hard, struggling to suppress the panic rising within me.

Despite my efforts, my body betrayed me, trembling as I took an unsteady step back.

"P-Please don't hurt me," I managed to say, my voice barely audible.

The wolf—Ace—stepped forward cautiously, his massive form intimidating. My legs finally gave out, and I sank to the floor, my back pressing against the wall as my chest heaved with ragged breaths.

My heart pounded so violently that I could feel its rhythm echoing in my ears. I braced myself for the worst, my tear-filled gaze fixed on him.

But Ace didn't lunge or growl. Instead, he stopped a few feet away, lowering himself into a seated position. His head bowed slightly, a gesture so calm and deliberate that it caught me off guard.

Through the blur of my tears, I wiped at my face and studied him more closely. His blue eyes, so vivid and full of emotion, were nothing like I expected from a predator. They were kind—soothing, even. Not a trace of anger or malice lingered in his gaze.

Liam was right, I realized. He wouldn't hurt me.

I hesitated before closing my eyes, drawing a shaky breath as I tentatively reached out a trembling hand.

My fingers brushed against his fur, soft and warm beneath my touch. My eyes snapped open, and I stared at him in wonder.

"You're...you're a friendly wolf, aren't you?" I whispered, my voice barely steady.

Ace's tail began to wag, slow and deliberate, like that of an oversized dog. The sight of it brought a fragile smile to my face, the first I'd managed through my tears.

My hand moved gently over his head, stroking the soft fur as I murmured, "You're not here to hurt me."

My heart become to calm down in my chest so as my breathing and I become more to stroke the wolf pulse.

His fur was so soft against my hand it was incredible.

"You are very soft" I whispered and notice the wolf move closer to me slowly as both of us become familiar of each other now.

But before I knew it the wolf start to lick me on the side of my face making me to giggling of his touch and then I notice that I wasn't any more scared and found it save around Ace.

I never have been licked by a wolf and this was giggling and different. "It tickles" I say through my laughter.

He leaned into my touch, his calm demeanor easing the fear that had gripped me moments ago. The tension in my chest began to fade, replaced by the faintest glimmer of trust.

For the first time, I allowed myself to believe that Liam—and Ace—might truly mean no harm.

I looked at the wolf who lean in and lay his head on my shoulder. His fur body was warm and I could feel save with him. My world chance for the first time and I could understand were my parents come for the first time. I let my fingers slide through his soft fur. A smile tugged at my lips as I lean my head back against his body and hugged him back. I wasn't any more scared and becomes to relax under his touch.

Liam POV

Ace was growing comfortable with Haylie, and I could feel the affection he had for her. It was as if their connection transcended the boundaries between human and wolf. Ace, despite his primal nature, accepted Haylie wholeheartedly, cherishing her presence in this tender moment.

When Haylie finally pulled away from their hug, I silently told Ace it was time for me to take control again.

I promised him he would have another chance to be with her soon. Obediently, Ace stepped back, retreating a safe distance from her before surrendering control.

The transformation back to my human form began, my body shifting and contorting until I knelt on the floor, breathless but whole again. "Liam," Haylie's soft voice reached me, drawing my gaze upward.

Her emerald eyes no longer held fear, and the relief on her face was a balm to my nerves.

I managed a reassuring smile, but my awareness quickly shifted to the awkward realization that I was completely naked. My shredded clothes lay discarded on the floor, remnants of Ace's emergence.

Heat rose to my face, but I used my wolf speed to dart to the cupboard, grabbing a pair of black sweatpants and a gray shirt. Within seconds, I was dressed and back at her side, kneeling before her once more.

Haylie still sat on the floor, her back pressed against the wall, her expression a mixture of lingering shock and quiet acceptance.

I extended a hand to hers, enveloping her trembling fingers in mine before pressing her hand to my chest. "It's okay, Haylie," I said warmly, my voice steady and soothing.

Her fingers rested against my chest, feeling the steady rhythm of my heartbeat and the warmth of my skin. "You're... you again," she whispered softly, her voice laced with wonder and relief.

I inched closer to her, maintaining a gentle demeanor. "I will never hurt you, Haylie," I vowed, my tone full of sincerity. "And neither will my wolf, Ace. He cares for you just as much as I do."

Her gaze met mine, searching for the truth in my words. Slowly, the tension in her shoulders eased, and I could see the faintest hint of trust beginning to bloom.

I gently placed my hands on her upper arms, drawing her closer until she was pressed against me. My arms wrapped around her, holding her tightly yet tenderly.

I felt her bury her face in the crook of my neck, her breath warm against my skin. The soft, floral scent of daisies filled the air around me, sweet and comforting. It overwhelmed my senses in the best way, wrapping me in a blanket of calm and love.

This was Haylie—pure, innocent, and completely captivating.

Her presence made me vulnerable, yet it was a vulnerability I welcomed. It stripped away all pretense, leaving only the raw truth of how much she meant to me.

"I love you, Haylie," I whispered, my voice steady despite the rush of emotion surging through me. My arms tightened slightly, giving her a gentle squeeze as if anchoring her to me, to this moment.

Her warmth against me felt perfect, like a missing piece I had finally found.

Our embrace felt natural, as though we were made for one another. Then, I heard her voice, soft yet steady, as she replied, "I love you too, Liam."

Her words were like music to my soul, each syllable resonating deep within me. I closed my eyes, holding onto the moment, savoring the weight and beauty of her confession.

It was as if her words had strung themselves around my heart, binding me to her in a way that was unbreakable.

In that moment, I wished time could stop, that we could stay like this forever—wrapped in each other's arms, connected by a love that felt as timeless as it was powerful.
