Fated to a human

Chapter 16: Chapter 16

Haylie POV

I had never slept so peacefully as I did in Liam's arms. He was like a warm, fluffy teddy bear, and the whole time I lay quietly, wrapped in his comforting embrace. It felt as if I hadn't truly rested in ages—until now.

His warmth calmed me in a way nothing else could, and a part of me wished I could stay like this forever.

When I finally woke up, a soft glow of happiness filled my heart. I couldn't help but smile as I looked up to see him still asleep, his expression relaxed and peaceful. He looked so adorable, with his slightly messy, misty-brown hair and lips parted just a bit as he breathed.

If I had my camera with me, I'd have captured this moment for sure—it was too perfect not to remember.

He smelled incredible—a delicious, earthy mix of early morning woods and fresh rain, like the perfect scent of the forest after a downpour.

It was everything a man should smell like, and as I lay next to him, his rugged features made my stomach flutter. He was everything I could ever want, effortlessly drawing me in with a quiet strength that left me feeling both captivated and safe.

I had no idea how late it was—maybe afternoon, maybe later—but time felt irrelevant. Lying here beside Liam, it was as if the world had paused just for us.

His arms wrapped around me like a blanket of warmth, making me feel fragile yet perfectly protected in his touch.

Then, I noticed his eyes beginning to flutter, signaling he was waking up. A rush of excitement and nervousness sparked inside me as I watched him, unable to stop the smile that spread across my face.

As his gaze slowly met mine, I felt my heart skip a beat, and I couldn't help but look up at him with a curious, eager smile, waiting to see the warmth in his eyes as he opened them.

I bit my lower lip, trying to calm the nervous flutter in my stomach as I looked up at him.

His warm brown eyes met mine, soft and full of life, with a faint blush coloring his cheeks that made him look so endearing. "You look adorable when you wake up," I said, my voice soft and warm.

A grin spread across his lips. "Says the girl with the messy red hair," Liam teased, "but you still look sweet, and I still can't believe you're mine." My heart swelled even more at his words—why did he have to be so sweet? *Damn you, Liam,* I thought with a smile.

"How do you feel?" I asked, trying to shift the conversation before my heart exploded from his kindness.

"Better now that I've had some rest," he said, his tone gentle. I reached out, letting my fingers trace the side of his face as I whispered, "You look so much better, too."

Our eyes locked, caught in the moment, until my aunt Camelia's voice cut through the quiet. "Looks like you two are awake!" She stood at the door, and I immediately sat up, blushing as if I'd been caught doing something mischievous. Liam pushed himself up, smiling softly.

"I feel so much better after the rest," I said, standing up from the bed, relishing the steady feeling in my legs—no more dizziness or sickness weighing me down.

"I'm glad the two of you are okay. I've made supper, and we're just about to dish up if you're hungry," Aunt Camelia offered.

"Wait, is it already night?" I asked, surprised, glancing at Liam, who looked just as caught off guard as I was.

Camelia nodded. "You both were so tired after the blood transfer spell that we thought it best to let you rest," she explained.

I crossed my arms, processing the fact that I'd missed school and half the day, though a part of me knew it was worth it. After all, I'd come so close to not making it through. Aunt Camelia smiled at both of us before adding, "Come on, Liam, you're more than welcome to join us for supper." With that, she exited the room, leaving us alone once more.

I looked up at Liam, who was now standing beside me, and I felt a warmth as he joined me.

"So, what do you say about having supper with me?" I say, smiling warmly at Liam.

He returns my smile and says, "That sounds like a great plan to me."

It'll be my first time having supper with Liam, but I think I can get used to this.

"Then let's go eat—I'm starving!" I say.

Liam Pov

We made our way downstairs to the kitchen. This place felt like a magic house; I could practically smell the magic in the air. I connected with my father through our mind link, letting him know I'd be late, so they didn't need to wait for me at supper. He reassured me that it was fine.

Ace, my wolf, was happy, practically buzzing in my head. It seemed that whenever we were around Haylie, he felt content.

Her scent captivated me, and everything about her drew me in, like she was the only woman who existed. It was as if every other woman faded away; I had eyes only for her.

As we entered the kitchen, we were greeted by Aunt Amora, Delila, and Aunt Camelia, who were setting the table.

The warmth of love filled the room, making it feel like a true home. The aroma of delicious food hung in the air, and the table was set beautifully.

Unlike back at my home, where we had a chef preparing meals and a fancy glass table decorated with crystal champagne glasses, porcelain plates, and golden tablecloths, Haylie's table was simple, made of wood.

But I liked it—a normal table with normal things, comforting in its simplicity.

"Come in, Liam, and sit down," Aunt Camelia said warmly. I took a seat at the table, and Haylie sat next to me.

The spread was mouthwatering: roasted chicken, baked potatoes with pumpkin and green beans, rice, and a fresh green salad. The scent of home-cooked food filled the room, making my stomach rumble in anticipation.

I could feel the warmth in the room as I sat beside the table, surrounded by Haylie and her family.

When I glanced over at Haylie, she gave me a warm smile and asked, "Would you like some juice? My aunt makes the best juice ever!"

I didn't know what kind of juice it was, but I was curious enough to try it. "Sure, why not," I said with a smile.

My eyes fell on Aunt Camelia, who took my plate, cut me a piece of the roast chicken, and placed the plate back in front of me. "I hope you like my chicken," she said warmly. "It's an old recipe I've been trying out." She then took Haylie's plate and began serving her as well.

"It looks delicious," I replied, admiring the meal in front of me.

Once everyone's plates were served, we all gathered around the table and began to eat. Dinner was incredibly delicious, and the atmosphere was filled with laughter.

Aunt Amora entertained us with funny witch jokes, and Aunt Camelia shared childhood stories about Haylie. It was wonderful to hear about what Haylie was like as a child—mischievous, curious, and full of life.

The evening felt magical, and I felt truly welcomed.

After supper, I helped Haylie with the dishes, taking turns as she washed and I dried. It was the first time I'd done something like this—at home, the servants usually handled the dishes.

But here, doing this simple chore alongside Haylie made me feel more grounded, more human. It was nice to just do normal things with her instead of the usual duties expected of an Alpha.

By the time we finished, it was already late. I didn't mind, but I knew Haylie's Aunt Camelia had strict rules, especially on school nights. I said goodnight to everyone, and Haylie walked me back to my truck.

"Did you at least have a good time?" she asked, glancing up at me as we strolled through the night air.

"This was amazing," I replied, smiling. "Any time with you is special."

As we reached my truck, I took in the sight of her, still in her nightwear, her emerald-green eyes bright against her wavy, misty red hair.

She looked beautiful, effortlessly so, and it made me wish I could stay longer. "I wish we could do this more often," I said. "Having supper with you, just being here with you, means everything to me."

A blush spread across her cheeks, and I lifted her chin so her gaze met mine, leaning down to give her a kiss. "Thank you for saving me," she whispered softly through our kiss.

"I'd do it again in a heartbeat," I murmured, pressing one last goodnight kiss to her lips before stepping into my truck. I didn't want to leave, but it was late, and with Aunt Camelia watching us from the doorway, I knew it was time.

As I closed the door, I caught one last glimpse of Haylie, trying to smile despite the sadness in her eyes. It was hard to drive away, but I reminded myself that I'd see her again tomorrow.
