Chapter 31: The Trials Continue

About a day later, now with the glistening sun beaming overhead giving a gracious kind warmth to all it oversaw, seemingly a present for the man who lay most below its potent energy, Axis who was just starting to wake up as the sun got into his eyes as he blocked it out with a hand as he slowly got up. The king stretched his body and immediately felt the painful backlash of the fight after the adrenaline had worn off as shocks came from both his head and back making a slight grunt as he opted to hold in the pain that coursed through it making a feel of the spots where he felt pain, but it was odd, it felt like something was there. Axis would have a slight smile on his face, it seemed that the monkey was at least nice enough to patch him up before he let him off. Within the hands of Axis a walking stick would be formulated out of bravery to alleviate the stress on his body so he could better recover. Axis would now do a quick 360 of the area looking for his next plan of action, and this where he would see that seemingly a new path had opened after he had passed the trial.

Axis would have of course been quickly captivated by the newfound path before him as he would think little more before simply continuing on his journey wanting to make it through this as efficiently as possible, for he fears what may happen if he does not complete it soon enough. And so Axis would've walked along the path maintaining a steady but somewhat quick pace, Axis seemed to disregard his wounds that were still fresh and had barely healed seeing his own pain as something that mattered very little when compared to the grand scheme of things. As Axis walked the only thing that filled the silence of his lonesome journey would be the sound of the birds chirping in the sky and animals rusting through brush. The emptiness of the expanse only made him remember and long to be peace with his family once more and go back to enjoyable times, yet he knew he had to be strong and endure this time apart for things in life had not always gone his way. To fill the void he would begin to sing a small hum as he trudged through the bright walkway with a song that Toriel always seemed to have on, the song of her home. It was peaceful and relaxing, he'd only ever had good times when it played. That was until he would come to a sudden stop.

He gace a look to his right being slightly surprised but at the same time relieved from what he saw. In an opening within the forest there appeared to be a small village of people, within his mind he was curious if this was apart of the trial or were these just people that happened to live in this realm. His legs would wander over towards the village, yet with a closer proximity there would be notice of its apparently derelict status. The homes seemed to be broken down and uncared for as if they had been left alone for many many years, the grass seemingly dead, and their crops wilting and gloomy as if they'd not a drop of water in centuries. Everything about this place seemed utterly depressing and this left a certain unease

"Hello anybody there?"

When he posed the question to the world, there was only a cacophony of pure silence that echoed back giving him an answer of nothing, the only thing that filled the silence were those birds that kept chirping, but there was no more chirping there were sharp caws. All the more peaceful birds from before were not there, and instead what replaced the elegant vibrant ones, were these stark black birds with eyes to match, their whole vibe was menacing with their long sharp beaks and eyes that always seemed ready to kill as they calculating scanned the area as if waiting for something to happen.. and then they would strike.

Axis would pick up a slight trail of his aura causing it to rise in a close proximity around him just to be cautious as he made his way to what appeared to be the leader of the villages house from its special design that stood out, not only was it bigger than the rest but it had several trinkets and decorations on it although faded they seemed somewhat fancy. He would slow his steps the closer he got as there was a mystery about this place, and he did not want to be caught off guard. Axis reached the doorknob with his hands slowly gripping it, he would quietly open the door and…

"BOO!"

An unknown voice from the inside would have yelled out when Axis had entered, this would immediately alert Axis as he was about to attack the voice, but luckily they quickly put their arms up in the air as they let out a laugh when they were about to be hit. The voice or rather the man as Axis could tell would stand up straight and started to walk back further into the house. Axis made some quick assessments about the man, he had quite dark skin and he was fairly short and scrawny, yet despite his appearance there seemed to be some fire in the man. They appeared a tad bit old probably around middle aged. When Axis finished his quick assessment the man would continue to speak.

"Ohoho, i'm sorry for giving you a scare boy, just a little fun is good in these times ey? Though just from looking at you I can tell you aren't one of us and you certainly aren't around here. So tell me what brings you to our village.."

The man makes a pause as he suddenly turns around with a slight look of embarrassment on his face.

"Sorry I didn't introduce myself! I am Chief Harrison, pleasure to have a guest around here."

The man would have delivered a slight bow which Axis would quickly reciprocate. And moved quickly to speak after and shook the man's hand.

"Pleased to meet you Chief Harrison, if we're going by titles I am King Axis, but just call me Axis. I was just walking by on a path and ended up here.Though I have a question Mr uh Chief Harrison, what goes here in your village? And where is everyone. You say people live here but it looks quite rundown and uncared for."

The man's demeanor would slightly change for a moment and his body slouched, a slight displeased sigh would escape the lips of the old man as he stared at the ground and back up towards him. Though the man seemed to try and shift back yo his previous jocular attitude.

"Well if you're just Axis, i'm just Harrison alright!"

Though the man cleared his throat as they would shift to the seemingly deeper topic of conversation.

"Well I will be honest with you on everything, I don't know what to do anymore here. We have tried our best here, we have thrived for many many generations. But now, something has stumbled upon us and threatened all of our lives. There's a creature out there that's scaring all our villagers, taking them away, eating them. This creature is rumored to be some sort of gigantic snake that's got everyone running about. It's just."

The old man seemed to discontinue talking as he slouched over onto a counter and sipped a glass of what Axis hoped wasn't water. It was somewhat murky and unrefined.

"I don't know how much longer we'll last."

Hearing this Axis would instantly shift to an attentive demeanor, how could he just let this happen to people? Even though they were not under his governance, it mattered naught. Axis seemed to think very little before speaking.

"Harrison, let me help you and your people. I just happened to stroll by here, I just can't turn a blind eye and let a whole group of people like this die like nothing. It's not right to let lives go to waste when I can help you know."

This seemed to almost bring a tear to the old man's eye as he wiped his face off with his hand, but the old man's pleasure shifted from one of pleased to shocked. The old man looked him over and it took him to now to realize the injuries he had accumulated onto him.

"But, but sir. You've got all those bandages on you, you must be really hurt aren't you? I can't have you go out and help us like this, you'll just get yourself killed like the rest. I appreciate your offer but I mustn't put another on the casualty list."

Axis would simply shake his head from side to side.

"I am not your average man, It will take a lot more than these simply injuries to truly hurt me, besides I have another plan. Show me all the people of the village."

The old man raised an eyebrow as the scene suddenly shifted. Axis was now in a tree that was in the deep forest of the village looking for the snake like creature that was rumored to have been the cause of their troubles. His mind would flash back to the various descriptions he had gotten from some people within the village about it, now that he knew what it might look like he must study the animal before going to the next step of the plan. He focused all of his energy on his eyes as they had a slight orange glow enhancing his vision great. He peered through the night trying to find it. His eyes caught nothing, but his ears picked up a faint rumbling, it didn't sound like a pack of animals and it sounded too loud to be caused by any singular large animal he knew of. He would enhance his hearing as well and turned his head over to where he heard the egregiously loud noise.

When he turned around towards it he would combine his hearing and his eyesight till he pinpointed tue source of the noise, that source was infact the humongous snake that was fabled by the village. It was a long black snake with 3 red triangles on its forehead. Axis continued looking at the snake trying to break down the structure of it with his eyes and see any sort of weak points or possible things to watch out for. Although the scales on it seemed to be armored and tough, it was serrated so there was a bit of room in between where it was fleshy and possible to strike. The snake coiled up on itself now seeming to lay down to rest itself, this was the best time to leave now without getting caught.

Yet it was never that easy. The birds from earlier had finally found their prey and dived down onto the sleeping snake aiming to kill it while it was at its most succeptible state, yet when they thought it was the snake suddenly opens its eyes as a natural power explodes from its aura. It sudddnly thrashes about smacking away all the birds with its body as if they were nothing. The birds that could still continue would flap around the snake and cawed at it with a sound that was enough to cause a sonic boom towards the snake. The snake puts its armored shell towards the caws as it seeks to cause him no harm besides the multiple powerful attacks. The snake would recite the birds by swiftly spinning around in a 360 and spitting out a slimy and slick purple substance that stuck to all of the birds as they flapped around. The substance would have instantly made all of the birds fall ill and not only that they were poisoned by the substance, they all fell down to the ground without even a chance to defend themselves from such a powerful creature. The snake would slam its tail down onto the ground as a huge explosive shockwave would occur from it as it caught the purple substance on fire and caused the birds to combust into flames. The snake would suddenly glare at where Axis was as their glowing red eyes shone, but Axis had already left leaving nothing there.

"Prey never escapes from Obtuseslither"

The snake would say with a hiss, it was quite the odd name, but the triangles on his head were all at obtuse angles so that may explain it. Axis had quickly appeared back towards the front of the village where a group had been congregated, and he now had a plan on defeating this creature.
