Fate of Mirithia [LitRPG, Isekai]

Chapter 308 – Leaving The Battlefield

Meera nearly pressed the Kyldar button, which would give the call to Munral and his closest Reapers that she needed help. He had promised to send aid if she needed it. If that promise still held, well, she would find out once she pressed the button, but before she did, she needed to sort some things out first.

"Rehia, I told a rumor to some of the Frostweavers that your father had agreed to send aid to your cause."

Her eyes widened. "What?"

She glanced at Lainor. "We were cornered in a sense, and that was the only way that I could think of at the moment to free ourselves. By now, that rumor must've spread like wildfire through the Spire."

"But my father was quite explicit that he would send me no aid, no matter what happened."

Meera gave a slight nod. "That might be true, but I was also promised aid if I needed it." She motioned to the Kyldar button.

"And you think the Reapers are going to come to our aid, just because you pressed this button?" Rehia did not look the least bit convinced.

"Princess, I think, nothing happens in this empire that your father isn't aware of. Meaning, there have to be some Reapers that are lurking nearby, who are undoubtedly reporting all that has happened to your father."

Rehia contemplated that for a moment, then gave her ascent. "Okay, let's say that is true for a moment, even still, that doesn't mean that my father will send anyone to my aid, because I so blatantly went against his wishes."

"Only one way to find out."

Meera pressed the Kyldar button.

Rehia was stunned for a moment before she deflated in her chair. There was a part of her that wanted to do this on her own, but she was being too ambitious. There was no way that she could've brought down the cult with only fifty or so sorceresses. Elrasil was too strong. There was no one here who could match him in strength and cunning. Not when they had a traitor in their midst.

"So, now we wait," Rehia said.

"Not quite," Meera replied. "Now, we find out who the traitor is. Firaan, I want you to read the minds of every sorceress, starting with the ones in your circle. If you think they are trying to hide something from you, well, then you might have your culprit."

Firaan glanced at Drurith, who looked like she had swallowed a rotten egg.

"As much as it pains me to say this, but we need to do this," Drurith said. "Do it."

"Another thing," Meera said. "Once you find the traitor, I want you to do nothing but follow the woman and see how they are sending information to the enemy."

Firaan snorted. "Once I know for certain who it is, that won't be necessary. I'll crack their minds open, and all their secrets will be laid bare. They won't be able to hide anything from me."

A shiver went up Meera's spine, and she did her best to suppress it, but the creepy smile that Firaan gave made Meera want to never talk with the woman again or be near her in any capacity.

"Fine, do that then. You should be able to do that until I get back."

That got their attention. Even Lainor sat up straight at that.

"Get back?" Rehia asked. "Where are you planning on going?"

"To find you an archdragon, of course. How else do you propose we're going to get through those walls?" Meera said.

"Are you mad?" Drurith practically shrieked. "The last time you brought an archdragon, it killed our leader, destroyed our home, and nearly wiped us off the face of Gethys."

"Relax, you won't have to worry about that this time," Meer replied. "I'll make sure that it's friendly, and besides, it's not like I'm bringing Ze-Raxor Winterbrace. Even I don't want to tangle with that one."

"There is another option," Lainor said. "If we can find a Cosmarian who can teach us Ashtarian, then we can do the runes."

"Do you know a Cosmarian who can teach us their language?" Meera asked pointedly.

She wasn't about to reveal to the sorceresses all she had learned about his new master. If she did that, he would be the first one they killed, as soon as Meera was gone. Or maybe they would torture him for information. Neither of which would help their cause.

Lainor lowered his head. "No," he said quietly.

"I do," Meera replied. "But he's half mad and only cares about tending to his garden. He probably doesn't even remember how to write his own language."

"You mean the Saint that dwells in the glade," Drurith said.

Meera nodded. "He's the one who saved me from Raxor's wrath when he learned that I had stolen his chance at revenge after I fulfilled Veridiana's dying wish."

She almost said, when she killed Veridiana, but that was still a sour subject for this lot. So, she had to remind them that it was Veridiana herself who wanted to die by Meera's hand. Saying it this way made them a little sad, but at least they didn't look like they wanted to murder Meera...yet.

"Meera, even if you find an archdragon, how will you convince it to fight for us?" Rehia asked.

"You leave that to me. I have ideas cooking in my head. You focus on holding your own until I'm gone. That brings me to my last point: no one can know that I'm gone. I fear that Elrasil will throw everything he has at you almost immediately once he learns that I'm no longer here."

Rehia nodded. "We need to find the traitor at once. And don't worry, we'll say that you are staying here with me."

"I can create a double of you that we can parade around in the streets to make it look like you are still here," said the last person Meera had expected. Drurith was the sorceress of papers, so that should be in her powers.

"Great," Meera said. "Since all that is settled. I need some rest. This night has been…taxing to say the least."

Lainor stood. "I'll be at my grandmother's. Send for me if you need anything."

With that, the group dispersed.

Vasda led Meera to a room with a bed and very little in the way of amenities, which was fine with Meera as she didn't need anything else, anyway. She just needed a place where she wouldn't be attacked if she slept.

What she really needed was a quiet spot where she could check her notifications.

Next came the litany of skills that she had already seen and discarded because nothing interested her. It had become a chore as these Frostweavers never gave her anything fun anymore. That was until she saw this next set.

[Class Ability Activated. You have stolen the skill White Spire Wolves – Level 396. White Spire Wolves – Type: Active. Affinity: Ice Affinity. The caster exhales icy breath into the air, which solidifies into spectral wolves made of ice and snow. These wolves relentlessly hunt the user's chosen enemies, tracking their scent no matter where they flee. Each wolf shatters into razor shards of frost upon death, wounding and slowing its prey. Would you like to acquire this skill?]

[Class Ability Activated. You have stolen the skill Murder of Frost – Level 287. Murder of Frost – Type: Active. Affinity: Ice Affinity. The caster conjures a swirling murder of spectral ice ravens. They circle high above the battlefield, letting out bone-chilling cries before diving down in sudden, razor-sharp swoops to tear at the user's enemies. Each strike saps warmth and vitality, leaving frostbite in their wake before the ravens scatter back into icy mist. Would you like to acquire this skill?]

This stumped Meera. They were both good. She didn't know which one to take. They were both crowd control skills. One was aerial and the other was more territorial. She didn't know which one to take. If only there were a way to try out the skills before actually choosing which one to pick.

That really should've been part of my personal Ascendant powers.

She sighed and picked the wolf's skill. She figured that she could already go airborne and rain down fury from the skies, so it was best that she picked the wolves, who could keep her enemies locked down in the fight while she rained hell from the air. Plus, it was the stronger of the two skills.

She gave up the Bone Ice Bomb skill, as this way she would be exchanging an ice skill for an ice skill. The wolves' skill did the hunting on their own, versus having to shoot the ice bombs.

[You have acquired the skill White Spire Wolves (III) – Level 10]

She sighed contentedly and was about to shut her eyes and take a much-needed nap, but someone knocked at her door.

She frowned. "Who is it?"

"It's Vasda, Reverent Lady."

"Come in."

Vasda opened the door with a broad smile plastered on her face. "I'm sorry to disturb your rest, Reverent Lady, but the princess has asked for you immediately."

It was still dark out, so she knew not a lot of time had passed since their last meeting. So, Meera figured, that something must've come up that Rehia wanted to converse with her. Given Vasda's expression, it was definitely something good.

Meera jumped off her bed and followed Vasda down the stairs, and turned to the meeting room, where they always met, but Vasda was heading towards another room. Meera frowned. She had never met Rehia in any other room of this hut-turned-mansion. She shrugged and followed.

Her feet faltered, and she came to an abrupt stop when she noticed who was waiting for her.

Prince Manazhar and Garal were lounging on the lavish couches opposite their sister, talking fondly to each other.

The God King hadn't just sent some Reapers when they called for aid.

He had sent his sons.
