Fate: Emiya the Host

Chapter 123: A Second Battle with Medusa

"Sorry, Caster, can you hand Lancer over to me?"

Cú Chulainn flashed in front of Fujimaru Ritsuka, shrugged his shoulders, "Mm, of course. But be careful, that woman's spear isn't ordinary."

He more or less understood now, his Master looked as if he was familiar with everyone.

"Don't worry, I'll prepare in advance," Shirou looked seriously at Medusa, saying, "I'm sorry, looks like this time I still can't save you."

These words stirred ripples in Medusa's heart.

Not because they touched her emotions, but because from this boy's eyes, she truly saw an expression of wanting to save her.

"You, exactly…"

A flash of sword light came, Medusa bent backward, leaping away quickly.

Shirou didn't give her the slightest chance to breathe, drawing his bow.

"So the earlier attack was your doing, was it?", Her emotions turned cold again, Medusa dodged swiftly, her agility astonishingly high.

Even for Shirou, he had to concentrate fully just to follow her.

Arrows shot out rapidly.

Medusa was forced to block with her spear.

"Brat, aren't you getting too arrogant?"

"Your words have gotten many, haven't they?"

Shirou remained calm, dozens of Noble Phantasms appearing behind him.

"Could it be that blackening can actually reverse even a cold person into this?"

"Those are!", Already shocked enough that Shirou could fight against Servants, Olga Marie's eyes nearly popped out at the sight of these Noble Phantasms.

"Noble Phantasms!"

Mash was also astonished.

Only Fujimaru Ritsuka was still shallow in understanding of the concept, but from the other two's surprise, she understood, these weapons were anything but ordinary.

"As expected," Though not the first time seeing it, Cú Chulainn still examined Shirou carefully.

This wasn't something magecraft could accomplish.

Noble Phantasms, regardless of quality, were the trump card of a Servant.

Most summoned Servants had only one Noble Phantasm.

A few might have two or three.

And once broken, they were lost forever.

That's why every Servant cherished their Noble Phantasm.

But Shirou had broken this understanding.

Even if the quality was low, it didn't change the fact that they were Noble Phantasms.

Combined with the possibility that Archer might be a future version of him, no matter how you looked at it, it was something extraordinary.

In a future where the Age of Gods had ended and mysteries faded, for such a person to appear, who knew if it was good or bad.

"You brat, exactly what are you?", Medusa didn't dare underestimate Shirou now, staring at him with a heavy expression.

His superb archery combined with Noble Phantasms had already caused her no small trouble.

Then she lightly smiled, "Never mind, doesn't matter who you are."

Licking her lips, "You're still a very valuable prey."

Her hair turned into chains, lashing out, "Pay the price for your arrogance, HUMAN!"

Countless chains blocked Shirou's barrage.

For a time, the clash of arms rang endlessly.

Taking the chance, Medusa blinked, and in an instant appeared behind Shirou, spear's tip already aimed.

"Watch out!"

Mash couldn't help but want to help, but was blocked by Cú Chulainn, "Just watch closely, little girl. My Master isn't some half-baked magus."

Sure enough, the holy sword Durandal and the cursed sword Dáinsleif appeared in his hands.

The holy sword blocked behind him, and at the very instant of contact with the spear, he twisted with the released force, counter-slashing.

Medusa, at ease, blocked it and sneered, "Hehe, human is still human, too slow."

The spear in her hand stabbed out fiercely, so fast only afterimages could be seen.

"Is that so," Shirou gave no answer, both his swords swinging rapidly, continuously striking and parrying.

Even so, this made Fujimaru Ritsuka and the others tense.

Because if Shirou made a single mistake, the spear would pierce his body, certain death.

And yet, each time he managed to block in the nick of time, all while closing the distance.

This was the close-combat method used when red Archer fought Dog Brother.

Using precise defensive swordsmanship to block quick straight thrusts, seeking the chance to close in.

Medusa was clever, exploiting the spear's advantage, opening distance against Shirou.

While thrusting straight, she also attacked with the scythe-like back end.

Whenever this happened, Shirou would project a Noble Phantasm to break her assault.

Amid flashing blades, finally, Medusa entered Shirou's melee range.

From here, they were equal.

If touched by Medusa's spear, Shirou wouldn't live. But if struck by his cursed sword, Medusa wouldn't live either.

"Success!", Mash saw Shirou's intent.

"That's right," Dog Brother commented, "Lancer underestimated my Master."

"Hmph~"

Though the situation turned against her, Medusa laughed proudly, her pose alluring, "Brat, do you really think, with your level, you can block my attacks?"

She flicked her long hair, her purple eyes flashing with strange color.

Mystic Eyes of Petrification, activated!

She mocked, "Turn into stone, brat."

"Damn, Mash, quickly save him!", Olga Marie panicked.

But again she was stopped by Cú Chulainn, who said impatiently, "Can't you just watch? Even I, as a Servant, am not nervous, what are you panicking for?"

"But that's a Jewel-ranked Mystic Eye of Petrification."

Olga Marie hurriedly explained, "The opponent is the famous monster of Greek mythology, Medusa. Looking directly into her eyes, even a Servant would be turned to stone."

Resting his spear on his shoulder, Cú Chulainn casually said, "So what?"

"I say, are you really that guy's Servant?"

Olga Marie couldn't believe it, "Your Master is…"

"Ahhh!"

Medusa screamed miserably.

She was pierced through the heart by the cursed sword.

"Impossible, you actually blocked my Mystic Eye?"

Shocked and bewildered, Medusa clutched her chest, falling forward. And was caught by Shirou.

His voice entered her ears, "I hope next time I can see you in your normal state, Rider."

'Rider, what does that mean, this human…'

Medusa disappeared within this embrace.

"No way?", Olga Marie's mind couldn't process it, "That Servant, Medusa, was just eliminated, by a Master?"

"Hmph! Told you not to underestimate people," Dog Brother, for once, acted tsundere.

"Thanks, Caster," Shirou was referring to him not interfering the whole time.

"No big deal," Cú Chulainn waved his hand, his gaze landing on Fujimaru Ritsuka and the other two.

"So then, Master, what do we do with these three?"

The sudden pressure made the three retreat, wary.

"So they really are enemies?", Olga Marie felt crushed by pressure.

She had just seen Shirou's combat power.

Comparable to a Servant.

If even a Master was that strong, how strong would the Servant he summoned be?

"Senpai, hurry and run while you can!", Mash wanted to sacrifice herself.

"No, impossible! How could I let you face this alone," Though afraid, Fujimaru Ritsuka still spoke out.

For a moment, the atmosphere grew tense.

Only Fou jumped again onto Shirou's shoulder.

Shirou stroked his chin, saying, "Enough, Caster. Don't scare them, explain the situation clearly."

"Got it."

Cú Chulainn withdrew his killing intent, smiling roguishly, just about to act, but was stopped by Shirou: "No fooling around, settle it quickly."

"Fine, fine," Cú Chulainn sighed, "I really don't get why you're suddenly so impatient."

The shift in attitude didn't relax the three's vigilance.

Seeing this, Cú Chulainn chuckled, "Only now you keep your guard up? Too slow. If I had wanted to kill you just now, it wouldn't have taken me the slightest effort."

The three had no words.
