Chapter 1268: 【1268】Presence or absence of breathing
Under the gaze of dozens of children's eyes, the medical staff on site felt the pressure from above to some extent.
"Step back a bit." The female teacher waved her hand, calling the students not to watch here, not to interfere with the medical staff saving lives.
The students could only helplessly retreat, retreating ten meters away as the teacher required. None of them wanted to leave; each heart was hanging, gazing at their classmate lying there motionless.
A few students whispered into each other's ears, "Those two doctors seem about our age."
These kids were referring to Xie Wanying and Yue Wentong, both in their early twenties, not long past their own high school years.
The medical staff carrying emergency supplies arrived beside the patient.
By now, nearly an hour and fifteen minutes had passed since receiving the 120 call, a terrifying amount of time for a patient in need of urgent care, a matter of life and death.
Xin Yanjun dared not look at the watch. She only knew that from the moment the ambulance arrived at the school, her doctor's intuition told her something was seriously wrong.
A completely unorganized emergency scene, no one had directed ahead where the ambulance should park, and the school teachers found out about the situation much later.
If the patient's condition were minor, wasting time wouldn't matter. Otherwise, every second lost here would be fatal.
It's not that the teachers and students on site didn't care about this student.
Seeing that it's autumn and somewhat cold, the teachers didn't dare let the sick student lie on the cold gym floor, and with other students' help, they lifted the patient onto a long bench to lie down.
However, lying on a bench or the ground wasn't the most critical thing. The most critical thing was to get the patient to the hospital in time. This, neither the students nor the teachers on site managed to do.
At the moment of seeing the patient's face, only two words floated through the medical staff's minds: It's over.
A fifteen-year-old boy, slightly overweight, with a blue face and purple lips.
"He's breathing," the male teacher told the doctor.
What kind of breathing is that! The doctor at the scene felt like crying.
Xin Yanjun rushed to the patient's head, turned on a flashlight to check his pupils.
Xie Wanying recalled the patients in the hospital ER before, her heart ached: this student is probably in a similar situation.
The patient seemed alive, making a gurgling sound as if phlegm was blocking his throat. The nurse heard it, purely a professional reaction, and said, "Oh dear, no suction device." Saying this, she wanted to run back to the ambulance to fetch other emergency supplies, including the AED defibrillator.
Hearing this, the female teacher said, "I'll arrange it, I'll let our school security lead your driver, guide the ambulance to our school's back entrance, you don't need to run."
Several enthusiastic students heard this and promptly responded, "Teacher, we'll go guide the ambulance."
In the eyes of teachers and students, as long as the student is breathing, and the doctor is here, there's hope for rescue.
Only the doctors knew in their hearts: there's no hope left.
Xin Yanjun's flashlight shone over, and the patient's pupils already showed signs of dilation and fixation, indicative of brain death due to oxygen deprivation.
"Put him on the ground." At this stage, Xin Yanjun had no choice but to make a final effort at rescue on site. She couldn't possibly tell these people right now: this child is about to die, there's no way to save him.
The teacher hearing the doctor's words, helped the medical staff hastily move the patient from the bench to the ground.
