Chapter 11: Unmerciful Punishment (Part 02)
The two vampires Angel and Brandon made their way back to Dusk castle. Luckily, It would take awhile for them to get there. Angel was in no hurry to return to his fiancee Blaire. He was certain she'd be pissed that he ditched her the night of their wedding. No doubt there was a sword in her hand with his name on it.
For the life of him, Angel could not shake the words. His mind kept going back to them, back to the moment where. Raven told him that she loves him. Her arms wrapped around him. She was begging him to stay with her. Like, he was everything to her. He never knew his life had that much worth to her. That it was even possible for her to love a monster like him. Even after she knew the truth about him. She still chose to fall in love with him. It meant everything, those words, they would be his strength from here on out. He would face whatever struggles that were in store for him. Just so he could hear those sweet words again.
"Come on Angel, Details," Brandon punched Angel's upper arm. "You had sex with a werewolf. You're the first vampire I've ever met to go balls deep in a werewolf. What's it like?" He asked. "Was it intense? Did you make her you know, Who am I kidding? Of course you did. I bet you tried everything."
"I don't think this is something we should discuss." Angel replied. "What happened between me and Raven. It should remain between us." He could tell Brandon wasn't satisfied with that response. "Sex should be something discussed in private between those involved. It would be rude to discuss it with someone else."
"No, it would be awesome to discuss with someone else." Brandon argued. "Especially if that someone was me." He smiled. "Come on man, please, tell me something, was she wet, did she suck your dick. I bet werewolves give intense blowjobs. Am I right?" He nodded to himself. "Yeah, I'm right, come on Angel please." He begged. "You banged a werewolf. This is one for the books. Angel the fucker of wolves or the wolf fucker. Has a nice ring to it right?"
"No it doesn't, it sounds disturbing." Angel added. "Forget it Brandon we're not talking about my sex life. It was good, can we just leave it as that?" Brandon gasped. "What? I said it was good that should be enough."
"Good, bitch, if I was Raven I'd slap you in the face." Brandon slapped him. "There that's for Raven. Good, that's all you got. You fuck a wolf and that's the best you got." He shook his head. "You could at least say. It was the best sex of your life or how about she blew me away or she took my dick to a place it's never been before. All of those are better than just good." He crossed his arms. "Now you've got to give me details."
"No I don't," Angel argued. Brandon pulled out his phone. "What are you doing?" He watched as he unlocked his phone. "Brandon, what are you doing?" He asked again. He began texting on his phone. "Brandon," He repeated.
"I'm just letting Raven know you said sex with her was good. Not great, not excellent but good." Brandon replied. No, he can't do that, that'll piss her off. Angel tried to grab his phone but he kept texting. "Nope, you did this to yourself man. You need to pay the price."
"Okay fine, I'll talk, just delete the message." Angel held up his hands. Brandon pushed send. "Why? I said I'd talk." He yelled. "Now she's going to be mad at me." Brandon laughed. "This isn't funny."
"Oh no, I just texted Claire." Brandon smiled. "See," He showed him the message. The message read: "Hey." He glared at Brandon. "I was never going to text her that. You're my bro, I don't sell out bros. Still, you promised details so," He shrugged. "I'm listening, what's it like fucking a werewolf?"
"I hate you sometimes," Angel let out a deep sigh. "Let's see well sex with a werewolf is well. That's hard to say, Raven isn't just a werewolf. That's part of who she is but it's not all of her. When we're connected as one it goes much deeper than that." He confessed. "When I'm in that moment with her, it's unlike anything. Even something as small as a kiss means the world to me. I've wanted it for so long and to have it happen. It's like having all my dreams come true in that split second. She's just," He shrugged. "Everything."
"Now that's better than good." Brandon added. "You should have led with that. Damn sex with a werewolf sounds intense. I've got to get me one of them. Speaking of," He began typing on his phone again. "This bitch is going to reply to me."
"Brandon, I'm pretty sure Claire doesn't like you." Angel commented. "In fact, there's a chance she might hate you. So if I were you, I'd just leave her a-," Brandon's phone vibrated, he smirked. "She replied?"
"You were saying buddy," Brandon checked his phone. "Let's see it says Drop dead, well that's rude. But I do like it when they try to resist." He started texting her back. "Check this out, I'm going to get Claire to go on a date with me. Thus proving that she digs me." Angel read Brondon's reply.
"That's mean, but I got to tell ya somethin'. You're kinda cute when you're angry. Dare I say, sexy even. ;-)" - Brandon
"Brandon, don't, I don't think she likes you like that." Angel cringed as Brandon pushed send. "She's going to delete you from her contacts. Great, now I'm going to lose contact with Raven." He rubbed his forehead. "You just had to," Brandon's phone vibrated, he checked the message.
Ew Gross, I wouldn't touch you with a stick. Perhaps if it was a sharp steak to the heart. Then, I'd make an exception." - Claire
"Brandon, leave it alone," Angel advised. "My relationship with Raven depends on you not pissing Claire off. So please leave it." He read what Brandon was typing as a reply. "No, don't send that. She'll delete you." The message read.
"I'd touch you with my steak, granted I think mine's bigger." - Brandon
"Brandon please don't," Angel reached for the phone but he pushed send. "Well that's it, I'm not going to be able to text Raven later." He let out a sigh. "Oh well, it was nice while it lasted though I never got to send a single text to Raven." He punched Brandon's arm. "Ou," Angel's knuckles started to bleed after hitting Brandon's diamond armor. "That shit, hurts," He held his knuckle as it bled.
"I hope you learned." Brandon grinned. "Never punch the guy with diamond armor." He patted Angel on the head. "It's cute when you try though." He teased. "I guess she's not texting back, so," He put his phone away. "So Angel, there's one more thing I need to ask you about what happened in the cave with Raven." He put his hands in coat pockets.
"I gave you details," Angel reminded him. "What more could you want?" He shrugged. Brandon's feet stopped in place. "What's wrong?" He turned to face him. "Why'd you stop?" He asked. They were getting close to Dusk Castle, it was just beyond that cave.
"This is important, Angel," Brandon spoke. "I need you to be honest with me here bro," He let out a deep sigh. "Did you wear a condom when you had sex with Raven? If you didn't. I need to know now." Angel let out a defeated sigh. He feared this conversation would come up and now that it has. He couldn't lie to him.
"I didn't, I should have but," Angel put his hands in his pockets. "I didn't have one and Raven said she was okay with it. I know I screwed up but, Hybrids are rare. The chances of her actually bearing a hybrid child is-,"
"Doubled, maybe even tripled." Brandon answered. -What?!- Angel jumped at the response. That didn't make sense how? "You didn't know that," He raised his brow. "Look bro," He let out a deep sigh. "The whole point of this Lunar Ball thing is to celebrate a werewolf's time of being highly fertile. Put simply," He shrugged. "It's like their mating moon, that's why they have a ball to celebrate it." He added. "You honestly didn't know that."
"I didn't," Angel sulked, dropping to the floor. "I screwed up," He lowered his head. "Bad," He hid his face. "How could I be so stupid?" He punched the ground as hard as he could. His fist left a small crater in the ground. His hands started to tremble as fear took over. His mistake, it was going to cost him everything. "No, No, No, this can't be happening. I just got her back and now because of what I've done. She's going to-, She's going to-," He knew without a doubt if Raven got pregnant with his child, a hybrid child. It would kill her, she would not survive and it would be all his fault. "Please Brandon," Angel forced a heavy swallow. "Tell me there's a chance, tell me there's a chance she won't bear my child."
"Well yeah," Brandon sat next to him. "There's always a chance it won't happen but if it does," He placed his hand on Angel's shoulder. "Patience once told me that the chances of a mother surviving a Hybrid birth is close to zero. It's hard enough to bear a werewolf child or even a vampire one but for both. There's just no way," He forced a swallow. "I'm sorry, I thought you knew and I really hope it doesn't come to that."
"It can't come to that," Angel acknowledged. "I can't lose her, Brandon. Not now, not when I need her most. She can't die, she can't." He curled up in a ball and tears started to fall. The thought of losing Raven because of his mistake was too much to bear. It was eating him alive, destroying him just the thought of her death was too much. "What have I done, this all my fault, I killed her. I just wanted to protect her and it turns out." He let out a sigh. "I couldn't even do that right. I'm just a failure."
"Listen to me," Brandon forced Angel to look at him. "Don't do that to yourself. You need to pull yourself together. This is not the time for you to be defeated." What does it matter, Raven's dead anyway. He already screwed that up. "Listen here," Brandon grabbed Angel by his shirt and picked him up. "You messed up okay but just because you messed up. Doesn't mean you just give up. That's not the Angel I know." He set Angel back on his feet.
"I killed her, Brandon. If something becomes of this. It's all my fault." Angel argued. "I barely got her and I'm already making so many mistakes. She's better off without me. At least without me she has a chance." Brandon slapped him across the face leaving a red mark. "Ou, what was that for?"
"You are not giving up," Brandon glared at him. "I agreed to help you and that's what I'm going to do. This woman loves you enough to put everything on the line just to make it work. The least you can do is try." He glared into Angel's eyes. "Don't just throw in the towel just because you made a mistake. The Angel I know doesn't do that. So, where's that guy at?" He asked. "That's the Angel we need right now. If Blaire sees you like this, she's going to know something is up. So you need to pull yourself together."
"You're right," Angel rubbed his cheek. "There's still time, we don't even know for sure if she's going to bear my child. There's a chance I could dodge it even if she does. We just need to be prepared for it. The problem is we don't know enough." He let out a sigh. "So everything leads to getting that key from Blaire."
"So, what's the plan?" Brandon crossed his arms.
"Sex is the plan," Angel knew Blaire's weakness. As much as he didn't like having sex with her. It was the only way that would guarantee success. Which meant he needed to get a hold of Selene. He pulled out his phone and called Selene. "Hey Selene, I need a favor, I want to have sex with Blaire. Think you can spike her drink with that stuff for me?" He nodded. "Thanks, there it's done," He hung up the phone and put it in his pocket. "Now I just got to do my part and we'll have the key."
"There we go," Brandon smirked. "That's the Angel I know." He draped his arm on Angel's shoulder. "Nice touch having Selene spike her drink with that stuff that stops you from getting her pregnant. You're getting good at this."
"If having sex with Blaire will get me that key." Angel shrugged. "I guess I could spare a few shots." The two of them walked into the dark cave. Perfect timing too, the Sun Repellant he took in Raven's cave was starting to wear off. They entered the dark labyrinth that dwelled inside the cave.
The walls of the Labyrinth were lined up with various silver weapons. A counter measure in case werewolves decided to invade the castle. Tiny shards of diamond embedded in the ceiling above them. Shards so small, they could hardly be seen. These shards were a trap set by Lord Alexander himself. He would use his ability to control diamonds to kill the wolves from a safe distance all before they reached the castle. It's reasons like this why it was safer for Werewolves to climb the mountain than to pass through it.
"Commander Angel," Three guards approached him. Two of them were holding a sword and shield. While the woman wielded a bow staying behind them. "We were just about to go out and look for you." The three of them lowered their weapons. "We feared something might have happened to you."
"Rest assured, I'm alive and well," Angel followed them back to the castle. "I take it my bride-to-be isn't thrilled with my sudden disappearance." He was handed a flaming torch by a fourth guard.
"No sir, she's quite displeased." The Female guard answered. "She spent the entire night ranting about your disappearance." She walked up next to him. "Sir, is it true?" Angel glanced over at her. "Rumor has it, you're going to be promoted to General."
"General," Brandon walked next to Angel. "You're getting promoted. What does that mean for the Commander position?" At last, they've reached the clearing of the Labyrinth. A guard handed him a dose of Sun Repellant. He took it and stowed the torch. Once he exited the cave, he entered a large vast plain, in the center of it lies Dusk Castle.
"We haven't gotten that far yet," Angel answered."I'm sure Lord Alexander will speak to me about it when I get to the castle. Until then, all I can say is, I'm not sure and you'll find out when I find out." The two of them walked into the castle being brought in by the guards. "Thanks for the escort. You may resume your duties." The guards left his side. "Brandon, wait here, I'll take care of the rest." He walked up the grand staircase and into the shrine of the Bats, Lord Alexander's throne room.
"Oh, look," Blaire set her spiked wine glass down and rose from her throne. She was dressed in a black leather outfit that was unzipped to where some of her chest could be seen. It was there chained around her neck. The key to the secret library. His target. "If it isn't my dear future husband," She created a diamond sword in her hand. "It's nice of you to finally come home," She walked toward him slowly. Her heels clacking against the floor. "After you left me at the altar." She appeared in front of him prepared to stab him in the stomach. Angel was quick enough to catch her by the arm before she could. He squeezed tight on her arm forcing her to drop the blade. "You bastard, I'll have you-," Angel pulled her in and pressed his lips hard against hers.
"You'll have me what?" Angel slowly ran his fingers through her crimson hair. "Killed, wouldn't you rather," He threw his black tank off bringing his bare chest and chiseled abs closer to her. "Have sex with me first." He brought his soft lips to her neck, letting his warm breath dance on her pale skin. "I've had some time to think," Blaire let out a soft moan as he teased her neck with a kiss. "I decided. I would no longer fight the cruel wanting that I have for you."
"What's going on?" Blaire asked. "Where's the defiance in your eyes?" She stared deep into his eyes. "What changed your mind?" She let out another fiery moan as he continued to kiss the side of her neck.
"I realized as evil and as fucked up as you are," Angel caressed the side of her cheek. "You're still an attractive woman. A woman that I can call mine, that alone is enough to marry you. Who needs feelings when you have," He brought his lips to her ear. "Lust," He whispered. "I want to fuck you so bad right now, I'd give anything to be inside you." He placed her hand on his pride letting feel his desire for her. "You could be mad and punish me or-," He lowered the zipper of her leather jacket revealing more of her pale skin. "I could give you my nice," He ran his lips down the side of her neck. "Long," He brought his lips to her ear. "Desirable," He brought his lips further down her neck. "Cock," Blaire forced a swallow at the word. "My body belongs to you does it not?" Angel slowly walked over to her throne. "So," He took a seat on her throne. "Come and take what is rightfully yours. Or," He unzipped his pants for her. "Should I take care of it myself?" A servant brought him a glass of blood. "The choice is yours," He took a drink from the glass, being sure to leave some blood on his lips to tease her.
"Angel, this is no way to behave in front of-," Lord Alexander yelled. He figured that he would be upset. What father would want to witness his daughter being seduced by her husband. However, this only added fuel to Blaire's lust for him. She wouldn't deny the opportunity to disrespect her father's wishes. She's always been the rebellious type. "Blaire, you will take this nonsense to your-," She grabbed her sword and threw it at the wall next to his head.
"Leave us," Blaire ordered. "My husband wishes me to bear his child. Is this not what you want father?" He went to speak. "No silence yourself father," She glared into his eyes. "I will have sex with my husband. You can either watch or leave the room." She waited for her father to respond. He rose from his throne and left the room. "Now then, where were we?" She took a seat on Angel's lap, pressing her lips against his. He squeezed tight on her hips as she began to grind roughly against him. "I want you to fuck me, right here," She pushed his back against the throne. "On my throne, think, you can manage that."
"I know I can," Angel leaned forward, tasting her cherry red lips. His breath danced on her neck moving to the exposed parts of her chest. As he pecked her skin, his hand began to lower the zipper of her black leather outfit. The lower her zipper got, the more his eyes got a peak of her nice perky breasts. No bra, for some reason this excited him. He pulled down her jacket exposing her topless body. He lightly sucked on her right breasts while his hand caressed it.
"Oh, Angel," Blaire pulled at his hair and crushed their lips together. While they were kissing, his tongue wrestled with hers. He carefully moved his hand closer to the key she wore around her neck. With a subtle yank, the chain snapped and the key was in his possession. Angel switched positions with her placing her on the throne. During this action, he took the key and hid it in his back pocket, his lips never leaving hers.
"Fuck me, Angel," Blaire pleaded spreading her legs apart for him. "I want to feel you inside me," He dropped to his knees unlacing her square heeled black leather boots. He threw them aside and began to take off her tight black leather pants. Once they were off, he got a sight of red lace panties. He hooked his fingers on the sides and slid them off. Just as he was about to get back on his feet. He felt Blaire's hand grab the back of his neck forcing his mouth to taste her. Angel tried to pull away but couldn't. He never wanted to taste any woman but Raven on his lips this was something he only wanted to do for her. But, Blaire was- Angel gave up his fight and decided to indulge her. Not like he had a choice at this point.
"Unnn," Blaire threw her head back as Angel stuck his tongue inside her cleft. His finger slowly rubbed her clit while he tasted her. "Yes," She pulled at his hair harder as his tongue moved wildly inside her, his finger rubbing faster. With each lick, he felt her insides open up for him just begging for him to take her. While Angel tasted her, he took out his cock and began to slowly tease himself. "Oh yes," Her nails raked through his hair. "Fuck me, Angel," He placed her legs on his strapping shoulders and with one hard thrust. He felt his cock take refuge inside her. He forced heavy pants and placed his hands on the arms of the throne.
"F-F-Fuck," Angel could feel it with every thrust. He could feel himself going deeper inside her. He bit his lip trying so hard not to moan for her. He still refused to let her name escape his lips. Blaire could have his body but he'd be damned if he let her have his surrender. Raven would be the only woman who's name was worthy enough to escape his lips during sex. Blaire would always be nothing to him. Just a woman who craved his seed and nothing more.
"Oh, Angel, just like that," Blaire held him tighter as he continued to thrust his hips into her. His grip on the throne getting tighter and tighter, the wood was starting to snap his grip so tight. He crushed his lips against hers to drown out his need to moan for her. He felt it, his dick becoming full, ready to burst. With each thrust he felt himself coming closer to his release. He quickly took his finger and teased her clit as he pushed his hips harder into her. "Angel, yes, fuck me, oh yes," She let out a loud moan, her nails scrapping his back leaving marks.
"B-,"Angel quickly covered his mouth as his release shot inside her. He fought so hard not to cry out for her. As much he hated Blaire, there was something about fucking a woman that he hated that actually brought him pleasure. He would never understand why but he hated that she could have that effect on him. He released the arms of the throne, his grip was so tight, the wooden arms were almost broken.
"That was amazing," Blaire pressed her lips against his. Angel ran flipped his hair back, the doors to the throne room opened. -Lord Alexander?!- He pulled up his pants and closed his zipper making himself. Somewhat descent. "What is it now father?" Angel handed Blaire her clothes so she could put them back on. "Here to scold me for my recent behavior," Blaire quickly put on her clothes. "No thanks, I've had enough of your lectures." She kissed Angel on the cheek. "See you around my sweet Husband." She smacked Angel's ass and left.
"Ou," Angel rubbed his ass.
"Actually I came to talk to Angel," Lord Alexander gestured. The moment Angel's name left his lips. Blaire stopped dead in her tracks. "It's about the conversation we had during the Lunar Ball, I've made my decision."
"Really," Angel picked his shirt off the floor. "So um," He slid on his shirt, adjusting it to his frame. "What did you decide?" He asked as straightened up his hair.
"Yes Father, what did you decide?" Blaire crossed her arms. "I know all about your conversation with my husband. Explain to me how he has a right to decide who will be taking his position as Commander. I chose the commander, not him." She glared at her father. "My choice is Ziek, make him commander immediately."
"Daughter," Lord Alexander shifted his gaze to her. "This conversation doesn't concern you." Blaire tightened her hand to a fist. "Due to your recent behavior," He stated. "I see no reason to take your decision into consideration." He put his hands in his pockets. "Now It's your turn to be silent and have a seat." Blaire sat on her throne with her arms and legs crossed. She had the look of frustration on her face. "Angel, gather the team. I would like for them to be present for this conversation."
"As you wish," Angel kneeled to him. "Lord, if it's no trouble I've been on the road for quite awhile." He pointed out. "Before I gather the team, I would like to take a moment to myself to get cleaned up."
"Very well," Lord Alexander allowed. "I do ask that next time you decide to flaunt your features in front of my daughter. Please refrain from doing it while I'm in the room or next time," He created a sword from diamond. "I will not be so kind, do we understand each other Prince Angel?"
"We do," Angel acknowledged. "I do apologize for my behavior. It's just hard to keep my hands to myself when your daughter has such beauty. I guess," He shrugged. "I let my desire for her overwhelm me. I won't let it happen again." Lord Alexander nodded as a way to accept his apology. "Excuse me while I go get cleaned up." He left the throne room.
The second, Angel walked into his bedroom. His pale hazel eyes lingered on the platinum chained necklace that he left on his dresser. Moments before the Lunar Ball, he took off this necklace as a sign of surrender. However, hope was not lost, his heart wasn't caged, it was free to fly into the arms of the woman that meant everything to him. He just had to fight for her and perhaps in his fight. He would find a way to bring a peaceful end to this war.
But first, Angel clinched the necklace in his hand. He had to fix the corruption that rests within these castle walls. If Lord Alexander takes his advice and puts the decision to a show of skill. It would be the first step to moving this Kingdom in the right direction. He just hopes, he listens. He put on his platinum chained necklace.
"It's not over yet," Angel held the ring attached to his necklace. "I still have some fight left in me." He took out the key that he stole from Blaire and hid it in his top drawer. He made sure to place an invisibility curse on the key. This way only he would be able to see it. "We'll be together soon, Raven." He shut the drawer. He took off his black tank, throwing it on his bed. He unzipped his pants and removed them leaving them on the floor. He slipped off his boxer briefs and left them on his bathroom floor.
Once the warm refreshing water touched Angel's skin. He let out a sigh of relief. For the first time since he's been in the castle. He felt relaxed just knowing that he had Raven by his side made him feel at ease. She was worth dealing with Blaire, she was worth the two year wait that separated them. He didn't care what struggles he had to face. If he had Raven, he had everything. While the water ran down his skin, Angel pressed his forehead against the wall.
"You did it," Angel smiled to himself. "You finally did it, you got the girl." He let out a deep sigh. "Now, I just have to make sure that I don't lose her." He shut the water off and grabbed his towel, wrapping it around his waist. He walked to his closet to get dressed, the second, he removed his towel. He heard a knock on his door. He grabbed some boxers out of his drawer and slipped them on.
"Coming," Angel walked over to the door and answered it. "Scythe, it's you," He noticed Scythe's pale green eyes staring at his fine flesh. His eyes were following the water droplets as they dripped from his skin to the floor. "One sec," He gestured. "Let me get dressed real quick." He shut his door and put on a grey long sleeved shirt. He slipped on a black short sleeved shirt to wear over it. He put on a pair of dark blue jeans and grey converse shoes. Once he was finished, he returned to the door, answering it. "Sorry about that, I wasn't expecting guests."
"No, it's fine, I actually found that quite enjoyable." Scythe smiled. "You have such a nice body Angel, I can see why Blaire has taken a liking to it. Even I'd struggle with keeping my hands off you." He cleared his throat. "May I come in?" Angel shrugged and let him come into his room. Scythe walked over to Angel's bed and sat down.
"What did you want to talk to me about?" Angel began picking his clothes up off the floor and threw them in his hamper in the bathroom. "If you're trying to ask where I was last night, I was out with some friends. I decided to play hooky and take some time to myself. After a while of just sitting there thinking. I decided that marrying Blaire isn't such a bad idea." He explained. "I guess all I really needed was some time to think about it."
"I suppose that is understandable," Scythe reasoned. "This wedding was brought on rather quickly, it hardly gave the groom any time to really consider it. So, I don't suppose I blame you for getting cold feet. But," He rose to his feet. "I didn't come here to ask you where you went last night. I merely came here to tell you that." He walked up to Angel. "Lord Alexander told me about your plan to put the commander position to a show of skill. I just wanted to say," His lips formed a kind smile. "I admire your decision, I think that is very wise of you and to be honest." He chuckled. "I never expected such wisdom from you, it is nice to know. We finally have a commander or rather," He paused. "A general who cares for us. It's very rare we get one that does."
"I do care," Angel replied. "Like I said when I first met you guys. I considered you all to be my friends. You guys are trusting me with your lives. The least I could do is return the favor by making things right." He shrugged. "Things are going to start changing, I'm not going to let Blaire mistreat you guys anymore. I'm in a position where I can finally do something about it and I don't want to screw it up. So, I guess," He let out a deep sigh. "All I can ask of you is, as Lord Alexander's friend. I know he values your thoughts more than anyone else's so please help me make this right. Back me up, please."
"That's funny," Scythe smiled. "You didn't even have to ask because I already did." He walked to Angel's door. "I think you'll be surprised at what Lord Alexander has to say. Hurry and get dressed. We're waiting." He left the room.
Once Angel walked through the doors of the throne room. He saw Selene, Scythe, Ziek, Brandon, Fate and Jayden all lined up in front of Lord Alexander. The entire team was here awaiting the king's decision. Scythe must have gathered them for him. Selene and Ziek stepped aside letting him take his place in the front of the line up. "Sorry it took so long everyone," Angel apologized. "My shower took longer than expected." He kneeled down in front of Lord Alexander. "I'm ready to hear your decision, my Lord."
"Now that you all are here, it's time for me to clear up some rumors." Lord Alexander began. "The rumor that Angel has been promoted to General is true. As of this moment he will no longer be your commander. Congratulations on your success Angel," He clapped followed by the rest of the team. "However this leaves a new pressing matter." He paused. "The role of commander,"
The moment the word Commander was said Selene lifted her head up. Angel knew better than anyone how much the commander position meant to her. This was her dream, everything she's ever wanted. Angel had once promised her a chance to be commander. If Lord Alexander takes his advice. He would finally be able to fulfill that promise. Her dream hinged on Lord Alexander's decision. Angel hoped that Lord Alexander would make the right choice and give Selene this opportunity to prove herself to him.
"At the Lunar Ball," Lord Alexander snapped his fingers. A servant brought him a wine glass filled with blood. "Angel and I shared a drink and discussed what would be done to solve this matter." He took a drink. "He had a recommendation," Lord Alexander's eyes lingered on Selene, she forced a swallow. "But then he said they were a lot of capable candidates and that it could be put to a tournament."
"A tournament?" Ziek asked.
"I haven't decided yet whether or not that's what will happen." Lord Alexander replied. "However," He rubbed his chin. "I'm curious, should there be a tournament." He rose from his throne. His eyes were completely focused on Angel. "Whom will you choose to compete and why?"
"This should be good." Blaire smirked. "Go on," She crossed her legs. "Angel, tell us all about your choices." Angel took a deep breath and rose to his feet. He knew what Lord Alexander was after. He wanted to peck his brain, find his train of thought. Very well, if that's what he wanted then he saw no reason not to give it to him.
"My first choice," Angel kept his voice calm. "Selene," He urged her to step forward. She did and he stood behind her. "As second in command, it seems only befitting that she would be the one to take my place. Not only that much of my success comes from what she's taught me." He explained. "She does have her weaknesses. Regardless of that, she knows the team better than I do. That's why I believe she will make for a great commander. Though, she would need to fight for it." He placed his hand on Selene's shoulder and brought his lips to her ear. "This is your chance, Selene. Your dream is finally in your grasp, don't let it slip." He whispered, She nodded and rejoined the rest of the team.
"Oh please," Blaire rolled her eyes. "That'll never work. She doesn't have what it takes. Father, this is a mistake." She argued, Lord Alexander shifted his gaze to her. In an instant her words were silenced. She shook her head and Angel resumed.
"My second choice," Angel let out a deep sigh. "I'm not sure he wants it but nonetheless he has the right skill set. His swordsmanship is unrivaled, he has a great deal of intelligence and could easily lead our team in the right direction. That person is," He faced Scythe. "Scythe, your close friend and possibly one of the strongest people on the team."
"I'm honored," Scythe stepped forward. "Such praise, I never would have expected this from you, former Commander." He bowed to Angel. "If there is to be a tournament then, I'll gladly compete, anything to impress my dear friend." He flashed a smile at Lord Alexander. Angel brought his lips to his ear.
"Scythe, you have always been a good friend." Angel whispered. "You've never turned down a chance to help others and that is something. I admire. Most about you," He placed his hand on Scythe's shoulder. "If there is to be a tournament, you'll do well of that I'm sure." Scythe nodded and stepped back.
"Well I can't argue with that one," Blaire rolled her eyes. "He's the person who trained me." She let out a deep sigh. "Okay what's your third choice?" She asked. Angel knew he was taking a huge risk with this one. However with the right guidance, he too would make for a great Commander. He just hopes Lord Alexander agrees with him.
"My third choice," Angel put his hands in his pockets. "Brandon," Brandon stood there in disbelief, his finger pointing at himself. "Yes, you, step forward." He nodded and stepped forward. Angel took his place behind him.
Angel could already tell, Lord Alexander struggled with this decision. Brandon's young, not as experienced as Scythe or Selene. The king could get behind Selene and Scythe but Brandon was going to be a tough sell for him to consider given his experience. Despite that, Angel believed with the right guidance, Brandon could be a good fit.
"I understand that Brandon has a lot of growing to do." Angel reasoned. "In your eyes, he may not be the best fit. But, I encourage you to think differently." He turned to face Brandon. "Brandon has a lot to offer, he just needs someone willing and able to mold him into the proper commander. I would also like to add that one thing I do know is that," Angel smirked. "Brandon is full of surprises so, let him surprise you."
"Brandon," Blaire laughed. "This is a joke right?" She laughed harder. "You honestly think he can be commander. He doesn't know the first thing about it. He has no regard for his teammates, he's never issued an order in his life. He's inexperienced. Not to mention, he was sent on a mission and his teammate died."
"Bitch," Brandon went to speak but Angel shook his head at him. This was a tactic, Blaire wanted Brandon to act out. This was her way of proving that Brandon had no control over himself. If he couldn't have control over himself. He had no right to be in charge of an entire team. He stood there in silence accepting Blaire's words. Thus, proving the opposite.
"You're right," Angel agreed. "Brandon did lose his teammate on a mission. However, his partner had no place going on a mission. She was not in the right state of mind. The very fact that you were the one who sent her. Shows that it was a reckless decision on your part and not his. Therefore, I see no reason as to why he's at fault for it." Blaire bit her lip in frustration.
"You're taking a huge risk, choosing Brandon. " Lord Alexander tapped his finger on his chair.
"I'm aware but, I know, Brandon will pull through for me." Angel placed his arm on Brandon's shoulder.
"Bro, you're going to make me cry," Brandon turned his head. "You really need to warn a guy before you say things like that. Come here Bro, " He grabbed Angel pulling him in for a hug. "I promise you, I'll do my very best. I will fight all these bitches and I will destroy them for you. You have my word, I will win this thing." He punched his chest. "This tournament is going to be my bitch."
"Proof enough why Brandon can't be commander." Blaire added. "However, it's your decision. Not mine, so." She shrugged. "That's three, so far I only agree with one of them and it's the person who trained me." She added. "This is absurd. Father, you can't honestly tell me you are considering these people."
"Silence, let the man have his say." Lord Alexander rested his arms on his chair. "Now if this tournament were to be held. Who would be your next and final choice?" He asked. "You managed to peak my curiosity, Angel. Please don't disappoint me now."
One more person, well if Angel had to choose a fourth. He would have to go with the one person he's yet to see fight. He had no idea how skilled he was but that shouldn't count him out. He could still be given a chance to impress him. -So his next choice is..-
"Fate," Angel answered.
"Me?" Fate pointed to himself. "Are you sure?" He asked him.
"Yes, that is unless," He shrugged. "You don't feel like you're up for the task."
"No, No," Fate put his hands up. "It's not that, I'm up for it, believe me." He stepped forward. "I just want to say ugh," He rubbed the back of his neck. "I'm honored, truly, to think that me, a healer, could get your recommendation. That's more than I expected." He laughed nervously. "Thank you Angel," He bowed to him. "You won't regret this."
"I choose Fate because," Angel put his hands behind his back. "I have yet to see what he is capable of. I feel like this presents the perfect opportunity for me to see what he can do. Based on what I know, he's been in battle before and he's been trained by Scythe." He added. "It would be foolish of me to dismiss him just based on the fact. I've never seen him in action. So I figured, I'd present this tournament as a way to challenge him. Help him hone his skills and take them to the next level. This will also give him a chance to impress me." He placed his hand on Fate's shoulder. "I've barely met you but," Angel brought his lips to his ear. "I can tell there's untapped potential in you. I'm excited to see what you can do." Fate nodded and rejoined the others.
"Those are your choices," Blaire scoffed. "Selene, Scythe, Brandon and Fate." Angel nodded standing by his recommendations. He believed all four of them had the potential to be commander. "Indulge me," She crossed her legs. "Why isn't Ziek among your choices?" She asked. "He has the skill and the leadership qualities. The perfect candidate if you ask me." She added. "I'm sure Father would agree."
"I do agree," Lord Alexander nodded. "Please explain to me why Ziek isn't in the line up." Well, if Ziek wanted it. Angel knew without a doubt he would make a great candidate. The problem is that he doesn't want it. Ziek wouldn't take Selene's dream from her. He'd rather take himself out of the equation.
"The reason for that is," Ziek stepped forward. "I have no desire to be commander. I'd rather give these four candidates chosen by Angel a chance. It's better than me taking a position I don't even want. Besides," He glanced over at Selene. "My interests lie elsewhere." He smiled at her, Selene turned her head.
"I see, I suppose there's no reason to force you." Lord Alexander accepted. Blaire rose from her throne. It was clear that she was upset by her father's response. She wanted Ziek to be commander. It didn't matter if he wanted it or not.
"The fact is," Blaire argued. "Ziek has the skill and is capable of filling the role of Commander. He should be in the line up, whether it's his choice or not. We need the best candidate and we all agree he's one of them." She crossed her arms. "He should compete," She offered. "After all, he's my recommendation."
"Of course he is," Angel glanced over at Ziek. "Still the fact he doesn't want it should be taken into consideration. Wouldn't you rather our next Commander be someone who wants it? At least then, we can be sure that they will take on the role with the intent of doing well. Perhaps doing even better than myself." He argued. "I beg of you Lord Alexander," He kneeled in front of him. "Give these four candidates, I've chosen a chance. If you do, I promise they won't disappoint you. For centuries the Commander position has been given to those we favor. It has never been put to a test of skill. I encourage you to break the cycle," He begged. "I'm asking you to do something that will help our Kingdom grow. Give hope to those who have lost it. Is that alone not enough to consider my proposal?"
"I've made my decision." Lord Alexander rose from his throne. "The role of Commander will be-," Angel closed his eyes. He hoped his words reached him. Please Lord Alexander do the right thing. Give these four a chance. They deserved it. "Put to a tournament," Angel rose to his feet, Blaire crushed the wine glass in her hand. "Selene," Selene glanced up at him. "Scythe," Scythe bowed to him. "Brandon,"
"Yes," Brandon raised his fist in the air.
"Fate," Lord Alexander smiled at him. Fate replied with a nod. "The four of you will compete in a tournament. The winner will be given a chance to prove themselves worthy of Commander. They will be given the position but," He held up his finger. "They will be tested by me." The four of them gulped. "Three strikes," He held up three fingers. "If you fail, Blaire gets to decide on the person that replaces you. So, my best advice to you is do not fail." The four of them nodded.
"Hold on," Jayden raised his hand. "How come I don't get to compete?" He asked. "I should be given the right to compete for Commander. This isn't fair, Fate gets to and he's only one rank higher than me. Angel," He turned to face him. "Why didn't you recommend me?" He complained. "I'm just as good as these guys," This wasn't going to be easy, Angel let out a deep sigh.
"Jayden," Angel put his hands in his pockets. "I can't recommend you because one, you're a new blood." He added. "Two, you just got a master." He motioned to Scythe. "Three, you've yet to unlock your special ability which would separate you from the other Vampires. The point is," He let out a sigh. "There's so much you've yet to learn and to put you in charge of other Vampires wouldn't be a wise decision." He placed his hand on Jayden's shoulder. "I know it sucks but you're not ready yet. Give it some time, you'll get there."
"I want to get there now," Jayden argued. "I can do it," He grabbed Angel by his arms. "Come on, let me compete." He begged.
"I agree with Angel," Lord Alexander added. "Letting you compete would be unwise. The rest of the team is quite experienced and you are not." Jayden lowered his head. "Perhaps, some other time after you've completed Scythe's training." Scythe placed his hand on Jayden's shoulder to counsel him.
"It's much too soon." Scythe agreed.
"Alright fine," Jayden groaned. "I'm placing bets tho and my money is on you Scythe." He added. "It's not like any of them are going to be able to beat you." Ziek cleared his throat and stepped forward.
"I'd like to weigh in on that," Ziek offered. "I think Selene could take him. In fact," He held up his wallet. "I'm willing to bet on it." Jayden grinned. "Twenty dollars says Selene wins the tournament."
"Oh you're on," Jayden took out twenty dollars. "I got Twenty for Scythe." They handed Angel the money. This made no sense, why are they handing him the money? "This tournament was your idea so you're hired as the bet collector."
"Fine," Angel put the money in his pocket. Blaire held out Twenty dollars. "You too?" He raised his brow. "I thought you didn't like my choices."
"Yeah but I can never resist a bet." Blaire replied. "As much as I detest Fate, He is my sibling student. So, I should root for him. " She tucked the money into Angel's back pocket. "If I have to cheat on you with one of them might as well be him."
"What," Fate jumped. He must have overheard her. "Did Blaire just say that she wants to have sex with me?" Angel replied with a nod. "Oh hell no, see, ugh, Blaire," He tapped her shoulder, she turned to face him. "You can't have sex with me because I'm gay. Scythe's my boyfriend, see." He grabbed Scythe and kissed him hard on the lips. Selene's eyes shot open in shock.
"That's hot," Selene pointed at them. "I want to see more of this."
"Sorry but that is not going to happen," Scythe glared at Fate. "Our Relationship wasn't supposed to be on display, Fate," He gripped his sword. "I hate people knowing my business," Fate crossed his arms letting out a deep sigh.
"I know babe, but," Fate shrugged. "It's a Blaire thing." The fact that Fate would rather come out as gay than to be with Blaire. It didn't sit well with her, she was pissed, Blaire took a seat on her throne, her eyes glaring at him. "Aw, did I piss you off?" He asked. "Good," Fate smiled at her. "Oh and Scythe," He frowned. "Please don't be mad at me, you know I don't like her."
"I'm not mad," Scythe reasoned. "I understand she tests my patience as well."
"Yes, we're going to have a tournament," Brandon cheered. "All of you bitches are about to get your asses beat. Let's go Brandon," He clapped his hands. "Let's go Brandon," He clapped again. "Oh hell yeah, I'm going to win this thing."
"I can't believe it," Selene tightened her hands to a fist. "It's finally happening, Angel," She walked over to him and gave him a hug. "You actually did it," Her arms held him tightly in her arms. "You kept your promise." He hugged her back. "Thank you."
Before Angel knew it. Selene, Brandon, and Fate were all hugging him. It felt great to know that he was able to make a difference. Things were finally starting to change. If only he could have stuck around longer. But he knew. Eventually, his relationship with Raven would push him away from his friends. He would be branded as a traitor to his kind. His friends would be tasked with killing both him and Raven. As much as it hurt to admit, he would have to fight them in order to protect Raven. The hardest part for him to accept was saying goodbye.
