Chapter 24: Ch 24 : Weakness
"So, this is what that person meant by the 'Cursed Fate' before they died?" Noel murmured, repeating the words over and over as he stared at the crystal-clear orb on the altar.
His fingertips had already dug deep into his flesh, and streaks of blood seeped through his fingers, dripping onto the cold floor—like a blood flower blooming in the emptiness, both tragic and resolute.
"Is this... the absurd and ironic fate that has shaped me into who I am today? But why? Why me? Can anyone tell me why this cursed fate chose me!?" Noel shouted, his voice filled with anguish, as if demanding an answer from some unknown force.
But the only response he received was the hollow echo of his own voice.
With a fierce punch, he struck the jade coffin, only to be forcefully thrown back again.
He stood up and punched once more—only to be repelled again.
No magic, no reason, no thought.
At this moment, Noel didn't need any of it.
All he wanted was to vent the endless frustration, helplessness, and pain within him.
He didn't know how long it lasted, but eventually, Noel collapsed onto the ground, unable to rise again.
Feeling the pain radiating through his limbs, he let out a loud, unrestrained laugh—wild, sorrowful, and filled with torment.
Tears streamed down his face, an emotional flood that had been suppressed for over a decade finally bursting free.
"At least... just this once... let me be weak…"

"You mean… you haven't seen Noel?" In the temporary settlement of the residents of Galuna Island, Erza, who had chased after them from the Fairy Tail guild, frowned as she questioned the shivering Lucy and Happy.
"Y-Yeah… We only saw Gray. We never saw Noel follow us at all," Lucy stammered, struggling slightly against the ropes that bound her.
"How could this be? Based on the time Noel set out and his speed, he should have arrived a day before me," Erza muttered, feeling a tinge of unease at the unexpected response.
However, her usual calm nature and her trust in Noel's abilities forced her to suppress her anxiety.
"It's fine, Erza! Noel is one of the Ten Wizard Saints, right? That means there's nothing to worry about!"
"Aye!"
Steadying herself and clearing unnecessary thoughts from her mind, Erza simply nodded without saying more.
At that moment, the tent's curtain was suddenly pulled open, revealing Gray, his body covered in bandages.
"You sure took your time, Gray."
"Erza! Lucy! And Happy!" Gray exclaimed in surprise upon seeing them, especially Lucy and Happy tied up.
"I've already heard most of the situation from Lucy. Gray, have you seen Noel?"
"Noel? Isn't he still at the guild?" Gray asked in confusion, glancing at Erza.
"So you haven't seen him either…" Erza sighed, while Lucy explained to Gray, "Erza said that Master sent Noel and then her to chase after us, just in case you couldn't stop Natsu. But now, Noel is missing."
"What?!"
"In any case, Noel should be somewhere on the island. Gray, go find Noel and Natsu—once you find them, we're heading back to the guild." Erza's voice carried an unmistakable sense of authority, and within it, a subtle unease.
It was clear that she no longer had any intention of completing this S-Class mission.
"You… What are you saying, Erza? Now that you understand the situation, you should know exactly what's happening on this island!" Gray immediately retorted without a second thought upon hearing Erza's words.
"So what? I'm only here to bring back the ones who broke the guild's rules. I have no interest in anything else," Erza replied coldly, her mind completely preoccupied with Noel's disappearance, leaving her in no mood to deal with anything else.
"Didn't you see the state of the people on this island?" Gray's anger flared at Erza's indifferent response as he questioned her directly.
"I saw it."
"And you still refuse to help?"
"The request has already been sent out to all the guilds. It's only natural to leave the matter to the wizards from the guild that formally accepted the mission, isn't it?"
"I really misjudged you, Erza!" Instead of calming down, Gray's fury only intensified upon hearing Erza's reasoning.
"What did you say?" Erza turned her gaze toward Gray, her already agitated emotions—caused by Noel's disappearance—now finding an outlet in him. "Are you planning to break the guild's rules as well? I won't go easy on you," she declared, summoning a sword with her magic and pointing it at Gray's throat.
Gray firmly grasped the blade's tip and pressed it against the guild emblem on his chest. "Do whatever you want! This is the path I've chosen—it's something I must do," he declared before turning and walking out of the tent without another word.
(Damn it… Why is everyone like this? Noel, Gray—they're all just a bunch of stubborn fools!)
Recalling the unwavering determination in Gray's eyes, Erza hesitated for a moment before clenching the sword in her hand.
Then, with a swift motion, she slashed downward, cutting the ropes that bound Lucy and Happy.
"This isn't going anywhere. We'll deal with the job first."
"Erza!"
"Don't get the wrong idea. You're still going to be punished." With that, Erza walked straight out of the tent.
Stepping out of the tent, Erza instinctively looked up at the sky.
Suddenly, she caught sight of a familiar blond-haired figure slowly drifting through the air.
Her heart tightened as she urgently called out, "Noel!"
"Ah."
The boy in the sky seemed to hear her voice and slowly descended to the ground.
"Noel, where have you been? You should have arrived a day before me," Erza asked, frowning as she looked at him.
"It's nothing… I just… got caught up in a small matter," Noel replied in a low voice, his head down, avoiding eye contact.
But his response only made Erza's frown deepen.
Her instincts told her that something was very wrong—very, very wrong.
Under normal circumstances, no matter what had happened, Noel would have at least looked at her with an apologetic expression and said sorry.
But today, he was absentminded, and more than that, there was a strange aura about him—an indescribable, heavy presence.
"Noel, what exactly happened?" Erza pressed, her voice firm as she stared at the blond boy before her.
A complicated expression flashed across Noel's face, and his body trembled slightly.
After a long silence, he finally spoke words that left Erza in utter disbelief, making her doubt her own hearing.
"Sorry, Erza… Can you… not ask? Consider this… a request from me."
His voice was as light as the wind, yet it carried an emotion Erza had never felt from him before—weakness.
A sharp pain gripped Erza's heart.
She looked at Noel's slightly pale face and the deep exhaustion he couldn't hide.
Clenching her fists, she screamed in her mind:
(Why? Why are you always like this? Always carrying everything alone, always trying to handle everything by yourself, always keeping everything hidden in your heart without seeking our help. You idiot… don't you know? Seeing you like this only makes us worry and hurt even more.)
After a brief silence, Erza reached out her hand.
Noel's eyes widened slightly in surprise as her fingers gently touched his cheek.
With a soft, pained smile, Erza looked at him and said, "I won't ask anymore. But, Noel, I've always wanted to tell you… don't carry everything alone, okay? Seeing you like this… it hurts all of us."
Noel remained silent for a moment before finally giving a small, apologetic smile.
"Sorry… I won't do it next time."
