Facing the Apocalypse with My Other Selves

Chapter 121: God Has Fallen! (Part 2)

There existed such a plane unnoticed by the Divine Spirits—it should have been used in absolute secrecy, moving people in bit by bit!

But now, it's all too late.

"Everything is over." King Senya closed his eyes in despair, praying to the Goddess with his dying breath, yet, as always, received no answer from her.

The Forest Goddess was barely able to save herself.

Yet after closing his eyes for just a moment, King Senya suddenly sensed that something was off.

Because, everything was deathly quiet.

The Divine Power of one god had utterly vanished, while the Divine Power of another seemed to tremble faintly.

King Senya instinctively opened his eyes—and what he saw was a scene he would never forget for the rest of his life.

A god—in terror!

Yes, terror!

Everyone could clearly see: Necros, the God of Disease, was staring fixedly at the spatial rift shrouded in Gray Mist, his whole form shaking violently, as if he had witnessed some unspeakable horror!

"What happened?" King Senya bitterly regretted that he had closed his eyes just moments before.

Then, all of a sudden, he felt as if something inside his own body was dissolving away!

It was Divine Punishment—a curse from a god!

And it was vanishing at frightening speed!

Everyone felt the same sensation, but compared to this, what truly shocked them was the scene they had just witnessed with their own eyes.

In the instant the Curse God, Maledeictus, charged into that spatial rift with boundless divine wrath, he didn't even make contact with the Gray Mist—his entire body simply collapsed! Dissolved! Disappeared without a trace before everyone's eyes!

It was as if that wasn't a god at all, but merely a bubble, an illusion!

No one could believe their own eyes—they even doubted whether they were dreaming.

What had they just witnessed?

What in the world had just happened?

"No, that's impossible! Impossible!" The trembling voice of the God of Disease shattered the silence; he had even forgotten to cover his voice, so that all within the Imperial City could clearly hear his terror in every word!

A god—in terror!

Countless people, countless mages, in that moment looked toward the Imperial City—where the deepest, most smothered hope flickered again within hearts that had been wholly lost to despair.

"What's impossible about it? Didn't you see it with your own eyes?" Wizard Shen Yu let out a mocking laugh, though even he was deafened by overwhelming joy in his heart.

It had actually worked!

That god had so blithely charged into the Gray Mist Space!

He could not even muster a moment's struggle—instantly dissolved!

And even delivered an enormous amount of Gray Mist to him!

Truly an enormous amount!

Wizard Shen Yu almost wanted to burst into laughter.

But he knew: although the hardest part was past, matters were not yet finished—what came next was just as important.

"Tsk, tsk." Wizard Shen Yu clicked his tongue twice, making no effort to hide his ridicule. "I've already said you were ignorant, but you just wouldn't believe—see, even Divine Power is reverting to chaos now, this means the consciousness is utterly dissolved, far more miserable than the Forest Goddess ever was… Hm? Why that face? No way, you can't seriously have believed that innate gods can't perish completely, can you? Hahahaha!"

By the end, Wizard Shen Yu couldn't help himself any longer and burst into unrestrained laughter.

That laugh was incomparably genuine, incomparably exuberant.

But in this moment, no one mistook it for foolishness or a reckless courage anymore.

Everyone looked at his expression—faces overwhelmed with unprecedented shock!

A god had fallen!

A true fall—as proved by the total dissolution of Divine Punishment curses upon their bodies!

This was a miracle! A miracle that surpassed the limits of anyone's imagination!

Even the boldest yearning wouldn't dare to wish for such a thing!

Most felt as though they truly might still be dreaming.

"Smack!" A sharp sound rang through the hall.

Everyone looked over and saw King Senya had slapped himself across the face.

And then, as if driven insane, joined in the wild laughter!

"Hahahaha!"

The wild, exuberant laughter rang endlessly throughout the hall.

The gods who attacked the Forest Goddess—it had to include that Curse God!

His fall—was a joy so wild, one could wake from a nightmare laughing.

The others seemed to have finally caught up, and one by one, they too erupted into mad laughter.

The great hall was filled with thunderous laughter.

It was as if to wash away the despair and pain of moments before—letting everything be released!

And amid this chorus of mortal mocking laughter, Necros could summon no anger at all—because in his heart, there was only fear.

Utter, unparalleled fear!

From the shock and disbelief at first, to the sight of the Curse Divine Power dissolving now, at last he was forced to accept this maddening truth.

The Curse God was truly, irrevocably fallen.

A fall bringing total disintegration of consciousness!

Since the gods arose from the primordial void to now, tens of thousands of years had passed; in all that time, the number of truly fallen gods could be counted on one hand.

And even then, every last one of those truly fallen gods was only brought down after repeated assault by other gods, their consciousness worn away again and again, their Divine Power stolen and rent—only then were they utterly destroyed.

But now, what had he just seen?

In but a single instant, just a fleeting instant! A god even stronger than himself—completely obliterated!

Necros suddenly remembered that lazy voice from moments before.

Those who cross the Gray Mist—die!

That hadn't been a bluff, but the truth!

But—how could that be possible!

Necros stared in terror at the spatial rift, still open, at the rolling Gray Mist within, as if gazing upon some monster beyond comprehension; he was seized by the urge to scream, to flee, and yet with his trembling heart, he dared do nothing!

And then, in the next instant, waves of Divine Power suddenly began to descend from the void.

Each one, carrying the gaze of a god.

Several gods had noticed the dissolution of the Curse Divine Power—realized some horrifying truth—and instinctively turned their attention here.

"What has happened?"

"Why has Maledeictus fallen?"

"Who are these mortals?"

"What is that plane?"

"Did Maledeictus fall after entering that plane?"

"Look back—look back and see what happened."

"..."

Voices fell from the heavens one after another, echoing in the great hall, echoing across the whole world.

In days past, these would have been called Divine Oracles—venerated by all, an unfathomable blessing to merely hear even a fragment.

But now, the voices of the gods sounded pitifully cheap as they rained down—everyone could hear the tremor of terror threaded through every syllable.

And they ought to tremble indeed.

How many years—how many ages since a god has truly fallen?

Even in the struggles between gods before, all they did was bind each other's divine forms and let their consciousness slumber for a while.

That never counted as a true fall.

But now—not only was this a true fall, it happened in the Mortal World!

This kind of anomaly was something the gods had never even imagined.

Anyone claiming it could happen would have been laughed out of the heavens as a lunatic!

The stares of countless gods seemed to bestow Necros a small measure of courage, yet when he opened his mouth, his voice still quivered:

"Maledeictus charged in to seize a mortal, and then... fell in an instant." As Necros spoke this, all the Divine Power in his being shuddered once more. "There was a voice in there, it said... Those who cross the Gray Mist—die!"

Though the gods had long paid some heed to the weirdness of the Gray Mist Space, they lapsed into silence at that moment.

Their Divine Power kept probing, attempting to decipher that mysterious space—yet they still sensed nothing.

But the fall of Maledeictus—that was no illusion.

They could even retrace what had just happened from the remnants of his Divine Power!
