Extra's Path To Demon King

Chapter 314: Artificial...?

With each word she spoke, an illusion formed on the vast skies above, and all around them were shown the moving images of the colossal continent and visuals of the various species of ancient times. How they looked and behaved. Without being a Seeker, those so-called powerful species did not seem that impressive to all of them at all, but none of the students underestimated them just because of that.

Apart from that, everyone seems more surprised by the fact that no demons or dragons existed in those ancient times. Since many of them had read that the seven ruling species had lived on the continent for far before, possibly even pre-dating humanity as a whole. So, they could not help but feel confused by the contradictory statements of the professor. Lumina, Heinz, and Vyra all showed skepticism and shock.

The story continued through the illusions, and the female professor's voice continued to echo -

The other races were strong, but humans were too numerous, which equalized the political field to a certain extent. But they were still suppressed more often than not. Humanity was too fragmented, spread throughout the many areas of the continent. But things truly changed on that one day.

Then one day, the world cried out in pain; the sky itself cracked, and the sound of roaring thunderbolts spread through the world. Animals cried out in terror, and trees rustled from the violent wave of winds that swept across the continent. All the residents of the continent began to feel terror deep in their bones. And then, on the very eastern corner of the continent, the two most powerful races of that time, who were the vampires and werewolves, looked upwards.

Something was falling from the high heavens, from that large crack in the sky. At first, it was only a black dot, but as the calamitous sound grew louder and louder, the black dot began to grow larger in their eyesight. Finally, they could see a fraction of what was falling, a gargantuan black pillar of unending length. The bottom part of it caught on fire due to air friction. Every single vampire and werewolf living in that whole area started to run for their lives.

But the moment the first pillar landed on the continent….

Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom

A world-ending explosion occurred. Everything within hundreds of kilometers was vaporized to cinders. The werewolves and vampires, barely out of the explosion's range and in a half-dead state, got up as they looked high into the skies again. They all cried out in despair. Countless more black pillars were descending from the crack in the blue heavens.

But there was something else happening as the first pillar dug itself more than 15 kilometers deep into the ground of the continent. The pillar was indeed unendingly long, stretching maybe even beyond the skies. Golden rune patterns started to appear all over the black pillar, pulsing dangerously, almost akin to a living organism's quickened heartbeat.

Dham! Dham! Dham!

Black, ominous roots spread from the bottom of the black pillars into the far depths, as if searching for something. In the meantime, more and more of the black pillars continued to descend from the heavens, a good number of them landing on the eastern part of the continent. But as the falling pillars went towards the western direction of the continent, the number of them became fewer and fewer in the very western corner where humanity currently lay. Only three pillars had descended.

But the catastrophic results of their alien terraformation of the continent killed more than 50% of the intelligent inhabitants. Many species went extinct or were killed by the surviving races, who seized the opportunity. Especially the strong species that lived on the eastern corner of the continent. The world itself cried out in pain, and sorrow spread through the living beings of the world as a whole.

But to the sheer horror and amazement of the continent's living beings. The destruction-filled state of the continent began to change right in front of their eyes in a matter of a few hours.

In every location for hundreds of kilometers where the pillars descended, the places that had all turned barren started to grow vegetation again. As if the world was healing. But the lingering sadness in the air intensified. The crack in the bright blue sky closed up extremely fast. No more of the black pillars descended. The whole sky above the continent started to darken. The day turned into night in a matter of a few minutes.

An enormous purple moon appeared in the night sky. Opposite to the massive purple moon, three smaller white moons appeared. Their combined luminosity contended against the vile light of the purple moon. To the beings from below, it looked like the combined might of the three moons was overwhelming the large purple moon, as the three white moons eventually devoured it.

No one knew on that day what it meant, what it signified. But people unconsciously regarded the purple moon as a representation of some evil, specifically those black pillars; mostly, at least, humans did think that way. And the three white moons were the symbols of justice, echoing the fact that their continent had survived. Many stories were created around that one event, in which their continent had survived against those black pillars landing from the broken heavens, which wanted to destroy it all.

Humans and the rest of the species that survived the 'Calamity of the black Pillars' had lived in a much primitive manner in those times, so there was no shortage of stories that became legends of that day throughout the countless ages. This event is said to have occurred more than 100,000 years ago.

But no one knows the truth for sure. Eventually, after countless years, when the inhabitants of the continents discovered the nexus stones they could extract from the black pillars, they would go through a trial in their dreams, survive in an unknown world, or experience a difficult event. They would connect to the prime Nexus. Who finally introduced everything about the Seekers' path to them. All the surviving species, all at the same time, started to get stronger. However, no one could obtain answers from Prime Nexus regarding the origins of the black pillars or their true purpose, except that they help the living beings of the continent grow stronger.

And that was the very beginning of humanity's actual vulnerability to those races, to the point where humans no longer stood a chance against them. But the truth of the matter was that humanity did not become helpless against the other races due to the racial advantages of the superior races. But it was because of the intervention of both Prime Nexus and the World Will. The weak state of humanity was always artificial.
