Chapter 898: An Unsatisfactory Outcome
Richard took the protractor, watched the Witch Demon Elder leave, and didn't stop him.
Currently, there wasn't much that needed urgent help from the Witch Demon Elder, so it was fine for him to go study the Magic Puppet.
Of course, he was doubtful whether the other would actually research the Magic Puppet.
With a slight shake of his head, Richard picked up the protractor and began marking the stone table with flames, preparing for the installation of future equipment.
...
Soon, a week passed.
In the Mechanical Processing Sector, Richard had completed the renovation work on Research Room No. 2, and the equipment was properly arranged.
Without hesitation, after a few adjustments, Richard activated the instrument decisively, initiated the laser, and began testing.
"Buzz!"
Inside the room, the laser emitter made a noise, and a laser beam shot out from the small hole, hitting the target.
Immediately, the other instruments started in sequence to separate Uranium 235 and Uranium 238.
Richard watched the indexes of the numerous instruments, observing the progress of the reaction, occasionally making adjustments, with a very serious expression.
Just like that, an hour passed in the blink of an eye.
With the experiment finished, Richard sat behind a wooden table in Research Room No. 2, watching a stack of Papyrus filled with various data.
After watching for a while, the frown on Richard's brow became more pronounced, and he couldn't help picking up a quill to make calculations on a new Papyrus Scroll.
"Scratch, scratch, scratch..."
Soon, a final result appeared, which was 3.865±0.125.
"This number..." Seeing this, Richard frowned even more, speaking with a bit of confusion, "It shouldn't be, how could it be close to 4? The energy consumption is far beyond the theoretical value. In this case, the advantages of the laser separation method aren't very significant, considering some technical issues and equipment consumption, there are even some drawbacks."
"It shouldn't be like this, it shouldn't be like this..." Richard muttered, shaking his head, as he stood up and paced slowly in Research Room No. 2.
A moment later, he stopped, staring seriously at a spot in the air, and said, "There must be some deviation in a certain step, which led to a lot of energy waste. But because the overall value is too small, it was overlooked. In this case, to highlight the problem, the scale of the experiment must be expanded for a second trial. Then, we need to expand this lab again."
At the end, Richard surveyed the entire laboratory and said slowly:
"Alright then, let's begin."
After speaking, Richard hesitated little and started vigorously tearing down the wall.
"Crash crash crash..."
...
Outside the room, the sound echoed far and wide.
Dozens of meters away, at the door of the main laboratory, the Witch Demon Elder was lounging comfortably in a chaise, enjoying his leisure time...no, pondering issues related to the Magic Puppet.
His pet, the Golden Yellow Dog, lay beside him, lazily gnawing on a bone it found from who knows where, making a "crunch crunch" sound.
Suddenly, the "crash" sound of wall destruction came through.
The Witch Demon Elder opened his eyes, startled, looked warily in the direction of the sound. Then he stood up, picked up the chaise and quietly moved some distance away, placing it down behind the main laboratory, and then lay back on it.
He really had no choice, as he still had psychological shadows from the problem Richard raised a few days ago and didn't want to get caught and lectured by Richard again.
Sigh, indeed, once you get old, you shouldn't try to prove anything anymore; just resting with your eyes closed like this is pretty good.
After all, his initial wish upon awakening was to enjoy life.
What he was doing now was following his heart.
The Witch Demon Elder thought.
The Golden Yellow Dog, holding the bone, followed the Witch Demon Elder to the back of the main laboratory, lay down, continued gnawing the bone, and grinding its teeth, lazily and contentedly.
It too was following its heart.
The Golden Yellow Dog thought.
However, not everyone thought like this.
In a nearby room, Pandora, who was brought back by Richard, was frowning, preparing to tackle a difficult math problem.
Just at the critical moment, the "crash crash" sound reached her ears.
Truthfully, the sound wasn't very loud because her room had some soundproofing done; it sounded almost like a mosquito buzzing.
But Pandora, being restless at heart, found the more she tried to ignore the sound, the more it seemed to drill into her ears, making her furious.
Finally, Pandora exploded, threw the quill onto the table angrily, and walked out, ready to see who was disturbing her studies.
Pandora hadn't walked far before the Witch Demon Elder spotted her.
The Witch Demon Elder opened his eyes, scrutinized Pandora's appearance, guessed her thoughts, and asked casually from the chaise, "Was the noise disturbing you, girl?"
"Ah!" Pandora exclaimed, her little face tense.
"Hey." The Witch Demon Elder abruptly laughed out, "Let me tell you, it wasn't me this time, nor my dog; it was your Richard causing it. He should be demolishing a room right now; you can go talk to him."
As he spoke, the Witch Demon Elder pointed into the distance, ready to watch the show.
After listening to the Witch Demon Elder, Pandora took a couple of steps in the direction he pointed, then suddenly stopped. She gave a deep look at the Witch Demon Elder, then turned her gaze, locking onto the Golden Yellow Dog beside him.
"Tap, tap, tap!"
Pandora quickly walked to the Golden Yellow Dog's side, and before the Witch Demon Elder could react, she picked up the Golden Yellow Dog by the scruff like a chick and with the other hand, started plucking large tufts of golden fur.
"Hey, what do you think you're doing?" The Witch Demon Elder's eyes widened and he exclaimed, "Hey hey hey, little girl, you must be reasonable. Didn't you listen to me? This time, it really wasn't me or my dog making the noise; you should vent your anger on the right target."
Pandora ignored him, continued plucking fur, plucking quite a bit before putting the Golden Yellow Dog down and turning to leave.
The Witch Demon Elder was somewhat unwilling and shouted from behind, "Hey hey, Little Devil, you stop right there, you owe me an explanation for this. Why are you inexplicably plucking my dog's fur? This time it really didn't bark."
"Woo woo—" The Golden Yellow Dog made a low sound, seeming to echo the Witch Demon Elder's point.
Pandora quickly stopped again, turned and fixated on the half-bald Golden Yellow Dog.
The Witch Demon Elder felt uneasy inside, sensed something amiss, facial expression slightly changed, and waved, "Alright, alright, I won't argue with you at my age, just go." He suddenly realized that Pandora plucking his dog's fur wasn't because the dog provoked her, it was simply because she was in a bad mood.
Pandora turned again and went back into the room to continue solving problems.
"Woo woo—" The Golden Yellow Dog made a low sound, looking at the Witch Demon Elder reproachfully, as if displeased that the Witch Demon Elder didn't stand up for it.
"Alright, alright." The Witch Demon Elder comforted the Golden Yellow Dog, "It's just a little fur, no big deal. You have plenty, you're not missing any."
"Woo woo—" The Golden Yellow Dog's sound was even more pitiful, turning its body to show the Witch Demon Elder the plucked bald spot, its eyes seeming to say—Are you kidding me?
"Actually, being a little bald is a good thing for you." The Witch Demon Elder comforted from a new angle, "After all, it's spring, the weather is getting warmer, so you can be a bit cooler, right?"
Golden Yellow Dog: "..."
"If worst comes to worst, we can knit you a coat of the same color out of dog fur, make it identical to before, is that not enough?" The Witch Demon Elder finally sighed and complained while lying on the chaise, "I only want to enjoy life now, is that not doable?"
"Crash crash crash..."
In the distance, the sound of walls being torn down came through again.
