Chapter 111 Soul Theory Fundamentals
Spiritual Energy would automatically converge towards complex, ordered systems. This was one of the most fundamental physical laws of this world. In terms of priority, this law, called the First Law of Spiritual Movement, even ranked above the Third Law of Burning the Heavens, the "Second Law of Thermodynamics."
Living organisms were the most complex systems among all standard-scale entities. Every living organism began gathering Spiritual Energy from the moment of conception.
This gathered Spiritual Energy then formed the Soul.
The Soul was an organ of thought. The lower the animal, the more it relied on the thinking capacity of the Soul. Thinking with the Soul was also the process of strengthening the Soul. The strengthening of animal souls gradually led to the formation of a true Personality, known as Spirit Awakening.
However, the Human Clan had embarked on a quite unusual evolutionary path. Human brains had evolved to a high degree and could form independent personalities, capable of thinking on their own, without depending on the Soul. In the thought processes of the Human Clan, the role of the Soul was negligible.
This led to two outcomes. Firstly, the difficulty for humans to embark on the Cultivation Road on their own was higher than that for beasts. For beasts, the real organ of thought was only the Soul, while the brain was subordinated to instinct. Any thought process of a beast could strengthen its Soul, whereas humans could only practice how to use their brains. The second point was that human learning and thinking abilities were terrifyingly high—they even researched and discovered the secrets to embark on the Cultivation Road on their own.
For the Human Clan, the first step of cultivation was to learn special methods of thinking. Visualization, meditation, and Mystical Thought, all involved bypassing the brain and letting the Soul undertake the thinking process.
This was also why Visualization required calmness—it was essentially about suppressing the brain to let the Soul become active.
Once the Soul became sufficiently active, it could capture Spiritual Energy and infuse it into the body. The human body itself had a special system for processing Spiritual Energy—the Meridian System. This system had developed to adapt to the innate circulation of Spiritual Energy within the body.
Activating the Meridian System was the true essence of what the Ancient Method called "opening the meridians," the legends that opening the meridians would expel filth like defecation were purely because the cultivator's control over Spiritual Power was too low, killing the normal tissues surrounding the meridians. These tissues, after decaying, were squeezed out of the body, forming that disgusting filth. As for what the Ancient Method Practitioners said about "postnatal impurities clogging the meridians and opening them expels the impurities," that was pure nonsense. If there were so many impurities inside a body, then the person's primary task should be to see a doctor—not Cultivation—definitely depicting liver function loss, late-stage liver necrosis.
Then...
"Stop! Stop!" Wang Qi suddenly interrupted Chen Feng, who was rambling on in front of the sandbox, "Boss, I didn't get up early in the morning to listen to you spout pseudoscience!"
Yesterday's visit from the Criminal Law Department slightly disrupted Wang Qi's routine. But that was hardly a major event, as Wang Qi didn't waste another brain cell thinking about it.
The matters concerning the Chen Family weren't going to be let go just like that, but unfortunately, the Immortal Alliance still found that sheep's head quite useful, so Wang Qi couldn't take action personally. The line through Du Bin was managed personally by Zhen Chan, who assured no precious time of Wang Qi would be spent, so Wang Qi also didn't contact his "old classmate" again.
Then, everything went back to normal. Today was another beautiful day with clear skies and gentle breezes, and Wang Qi continued his studies to enhance his strength—at least, in theory, that should have been the case.
But why is the first thing I do at work to listen to these remedial lessons?
I heard about these principles before I even entered the Immortal Institute!
Chen Feng explained, "These are the foundational theories of Yangshen Pavilion and indeed all cultivation, listening more won't hurt."
Wang Qi slammed the table and roared, "The most useful mathematical reasoning I've learned in my life is 'one plus one equals two,' but do I spend my days studying why one plus one equals two?"
Chen Feng asked doubtfully, "I heard from Youjia that you are indeed studying why one plus one equals two? The exact words were 'proving from within mathematical reasoning why one plus one equals two'..."
Oh... I almost forgot that I'm currently working on Pianuo Axioms, arithmetic systems, mathematical logic…
Wang Qi's mouth twitched twice. Although his mastery in the field of mathematical logic was comparable to the masters of his previous life, subconsciously, he still felt it was the fruit of someone else's labor. His eyes rolled twice, and finally, he awkwardly criticized Chen Youjia's assessment, "A dog can't spit out ivory…"
Chen Feng sighed, "Look, since you're taking my monthly salary, can't you just put aside our differences here?"
"She can't even understand the significance of my work! This is one of the greatest tasks in the history of mathematics!"
"Alright, alright. Since you think you're qualified in this part, I'll give you some test questions later to see your scores. Let's move on to the next topic…"
"Hold on," Wang Qi interrupted Chen Feng again, "I have another question."
"Please, make it quick. I plan to complete the lecture today and officially start your work."
"Uh, I can understand your rush to work and your fondness for doing charity and teaching," Wang Qi said expressionlessly, nodding at the stool and the desk he was using, "but I don't understand why you would hold the class here… Don't you think this setting is quite unsuitable for me?"
More than unsuitable, it was extremely unsuitable. The set of desk and chair was clearly designed for seven-year-old children. It was less like Wang Qi was sitting there and more like he was curled up.
Chen Feng nodded, "Quite unsuitable."
"Then why don't you teach in the study or the yard?"
"The study is occupied by Youjia, and my other Empirical Proofworkers are training in the yard."
Wang Qi pointed outside, shouting, "But don't you think the looks from passersby outside are quite piercing? They think, 'Which family's idiot is bothering the Immortal Master again?'"
Chen Feng's yard wasn't located in a particularly secluded alley and wasn't far from the main road. Now, as the sun was just rising, it was the peak time for the civilians of Divine Capital to go to work. Occasionally, pedestrians would pass by Chen Feng's door.
Chen Feng nodded, "I do have training for congenital thought disorder…"
"You admit it!" Wang Qi was furious and slammed the table hard. With a crack, the cheap little desk split into two.
Chen Feng silently stared at the desk. Wang Qi covered his face, "I'll pay for it…"
"Forget it, I'll have a carpenter make one later. I run a Charitable School without charging; getting some wood and asking a parent to make a desk shouldn't be hard."
Wang Qi asked, "Boss, it's not going to work if you keep teaching like this. Just tell me directly what you do and what work I need to do."
"But if I don't help you sort out the basics, you probably won't understand."
"I can just ask directly about the parts I don't understand!"
"What if there are misunderstandings?" Chen Feng murmured, then replied, "The problem I am researching is the human heart."
