Chapter 1: West Sea, Jiao Dragon, Madness
West Sea, in the midst of a scorching summer.
The sun on the summer solstice was fiercely hot. However, to call it "scorching summer" might not be quite accurate. Due to the Coriolis effect, there were constant westerly winds here. The gentle sea breeze swept away too much heat and brought a considerable amount of moisture. As long as one wasn't directly under the sun's blaze, it wouldn't be uncomfortably hot.
The soft sea breeze lifted waves that were neither too high nor too low, with only a few rocks occasionally peeking through the water.
But beneath this calm surface, there were dangers lurking at every turn.
All because this was the West Sea, the location of the Holy Dragon Abyss.
The buoyancy of seawater counteracts gravity, allowing sea-born demon beasts to grow much larger. Consequently, their demonic power and vital energy were more abundant. Furthermore, the sea's vast expanse surpassed that of the continents, greatly increasing the likelihood of birthing powerful demon creatures. Amidst cruel competition, the sea's demon clan evolved superior combat skills.
Under the same conditions and cultivation levels, land-born demons were often no match for their sea-born counterparts.
Before the Human Clan came to be, the coastal territories had always been hunting grounds for the sea-born demon beasts. The top predators regarded it as their territory. During the Ancient Method Era, the best the Human Clan could achieve was to establish occupied zones along the coastline.
However, in the Modern Era, Modern Cultivators had successively "liberated" the North Sea, Southern Sea, and East Sea, driving the sea-born demons back, so they dared not come within three thousand miles of the coastline.
But the West Sea could not be handled the same way.
Because the Dragon Clan did not care about the continents, or the East Sea, North Sea, or Southern Sea. But the West Sea, the location of their sacred land, was where the Dragon Clan would never cede control.
That said, although the Immortal Alliance certainly feared the Dragon Clan's terrifying influence built up over a billion years, the dragon demons were also unclear about the depths of those "Human Demons" on shore. Both sides maintained restraint.
However, with the West Sea Dragon King's madness six years prior, the situation between sea and land had rapidly deteriorated.
The Mahayana Dragon Clan and Modern Carefree had already clashed several times, and low-level demon beasts were driven ashore to attack human settlements. Both sides had unleashed their True Fire. Amidst burgeoning hatred, from white-haired elders to young children, all bore bone-deep hatred for sea demons.
Among these "young children," there were occasionally a few... precocious ones, with cultivation already present within them.
"Dawu, hurry up! Faster!"
"This spirit pool is used up! Switch it!"
"Ah? That's my pocket money..."
"Yaya, Xu Xu, look over there!"
"Look at all those fish meows!"
A group of children, riding on a small Spirit Boat, was swiftly shuttling across the sea.
"Long'er, this really isn't too good, is it? Let's go home?" A child ultimately understood that this was too dangerous, not a place for children.
The leader of the children was named Wei Yilong, a notorious rascal from Long Port Village in Langde City. However, this kid was known for his heavy sense of loyalty, thus he was also king of the local children. He said fiercely, "Coward! If you want to go back, go back by yourself! This time, I must kill a few sea demons to stew in soup to avenge Sister Jing and Dayou's father!"
The kid was nearly in tears: "But... but... I can't go back..."
Seeing this, Wei Yilong sighed, consoled him, "It's okay, it's okay, my dad's boat is a true warship. He served as a Guardian Envoy, participated in the campaign against the Transformation Sea Demon, earned a great merit, and got his hands on a first-rate ship! As long as our spirit pool is not exhausted, we can easily blast away any Spirit Awakening and Qi Storage demon beasts, we can even fight a Core Formation Demon Clan."
"Wow!" A crowd of little devils let out exclamations, seemingly understanding this little devil's pride.
They all were counted as geniuses, having achieved Heavenly Communication before the age of ten. However, their parents felt that entering the Immortal Institute too early was not suitable for their development, so they were kept by their side. They were usually praised by others and direct beneficiaries of Immortal Dao Civilization. In their view, a high-order Magic Artifact should be almighty.
"Pah!" The self-importance of this group of kids lasted only a brief moment. A red figure racing from a distance leapt onto the Spirit Boat with a few bounds, and these kids didn't even have the opportunity to activate the Spirit Prohibition. The newcomer was a young woman around eighteen years old. As soon as she entered the cabin, she gave the child king a knock on the head without explanation: "Long'er! What did I tell you?"
"Sister Jing..."
Wei Yilong's sister, Wei Yijing, grabbed his ear and scolded: "What did mom and dad say to you? How could you run out here? And you've dragged so many kids with you? If something happened, it's a small matter if you died, but don't let our parents lose face in front of our neighbor Daoist fellows!"
Wei Yilong exclaimed, "Sister Jing, don't be mad... your leg! There's still a wound on your leg!"
Under Wei Yijing's flowing skirt, one of her legs seemed a bit thicker, wrapped in bandages. She had been accidentally cut by the fin blade of a sea demon three days earlier, and its poison and demonic power were corrupting her body. While it was not a critical injury, the Wei family belonged to the "working class" among cultivators. They couldn't afford immediate healing treatment, so Wei Yijing had no choice but to wait for it to heal naturally.
Wei Yijing knocked on her brother's forehead again: "Knowing I needed to rest, and you still caused trouble — nevermind, I am a disciple of the Liuyun Sect after all, I can still summon the wind to carry us."
Wei Yilong sulkily replied, "I just wanted to kill a few Knife Fish Demons to help you vent out a bit…"
