Chapter 72: Deal
Trey looked at the clock on his Status Band and saw that the time for the Training Room was about to end.
"Two minutes and the one hour is done," Trey muttered, but instead of relief, confusion was evident in his voice. "And she's been there for at least thirty minutes…"
Trey leaned back on the railings and looked toward the anti-gravity elevators.
The people below—Primers or normal humans—went about their day, each in their own world and at their own pace. They wore smiles on their faces, some stoic, some frustrated as they dealt with the annoying ads popping up in front of them.
As he observed these people, Trey's thoughts wandered, until they circled back to the Training Room behind him.
He glanced at the Training Room door before his eyes returned to the crowd below. Trey continued observing them, as if trying to read their lives. His gaze never stayed on one person for more than three seconds—until it did, when he noticed a man and a woman talking merrily while sipping coffee in front of a café.
They wore bright smiles as they talked without a care in the world. Then they stopped, locking eyes—and the next second, they began kissing passionately.
The scene put a frown on Trey's face, but he continued watching.
Public displays of affection were normal—Trey had seen a lot of them—but what happened next made his face turn red.
The two passionate lovers didn't stop at kissing. They shoved their coffee cups off the table, shattering them and spilling the contents onto the ground. People around them were startled, but the lovers didn't care.
The man lifted the woman onto the table, and they continued kissing, hands fumbling over each other's clothes, trying to strip.
Trey's eyes widened even more at the sight.
"Are they really going to do it in public?!" Trey exclaimed, staring wide-eyed at the commotion, which had also caught the attention of other bystanders.
The lovers began taking off their clothes—and in no time, they were butt-naked in front of the restaurant.
"Oh sh*t, they really are doing it!" Trey shouted—and so did the others around him.
Trey couldn't tear his eyes away, eagerly waiting to see the climax of the scene. However, before the two could reach the act of "meeting God" together, the guards of the Level Up Center stepped in.
They pulled out stun guns, and with the crackle of electricity, the two lovers fell to the ground, convulsing from the shocks.
The fun ended just like that. Primers and normal people alike groaned in disappointment—especially the men, who had been hoping to see something "go in and out." But their fantasies stayed just that: fantasies.
"At least we got to see some boobs," a passerby said, and the words reached Trey's ears.
Trey stood frozen, still staring at the woman as she was dragged away by the guards. His eyes were glued to her chest, and only when she disappeared from view did he snap out of his daze.
"Sh*t," Trey cursed as he looked down at his pants. "What the hell is wrong with these people? Doing something disgusting in public... They're definitely on drugs."
"Definitely,"
Suddenly, a voice came from his right, startling him.
"F*ck!" Trey jumped, his chest heaving heavily as he turned to the source. Realizing who it was, he breathed a sigh of relief. "Oh, it's you."
"Yeah, it's me," Kael smirked.
"How long have you been out?" Trey asked, glancing toward the Training Room where Kael had come from.
"Since the moment they started kissing," Kael said. "The moment your eyes refused to blink and your head refused to turn. I must say, I admire your dedication for staring even while she was being dragged off."
Hearing this, Trey's face turned red with shame. He looked away, trying to deny Kael's words. "You're wrong. I was just curious, that's all."
"Curiosity kills a cat, but seeking wisdom pleasures a man," Kael said as he walked past the young man, patting his shoulder. "Do better. Instead of staring, why not start walking? Run if you can. But I must warn you—you'll fall and hit your face hard. Might even knock your teeth out, and if you're really unlucky…"
Kael tapped the young man's forehead with his knuckles a few times. "…you'll smash your brain."
Trey was left stunned as Kael walked away. He was confused why Kael was saying these things—and even more confused the more he thought about it.
"Where is she?" Trey muttered, realizing he hadn't seen the receptionist who went inside. As he thought about her and Kael alone in the Training Room, his gaze drifted back to the front of the café before snapping to the Training Room door. "Did they...? Wait... they really did it... they really did it!"
Realization kicking in, he hurriedly chased after Kael.
After running for a bit, he saw the lunatic entering the elevator.
"Wait!" Trey shouted, using all his strength to dive into the tube-type elevator, barely squeezing through the closing gap. However, because of his momentum, he crashed into the wall of the elevator, causing it to sway back and forth.
"Oh sh*t!" Trey cursed as the elevator lit up red and a warning blared.
"Danger! Danger! Stability of Anti-Gravity has been compromised!"
"Fixing! Completed! Stability is normal!"
"Calm down," Kael said as Trey panted excitedly.
"I..." Trey did as he was told. He took a deep breath—and as he did, the elevator returned to normal.
The elevator then resumed its descent while Trey calmed down.
"What's the problem?" Kael asked.
"You... you did the deed with her, right?" Trey asked, eyes glinting with anticipation.
"Yes," Kael nodded. "Is that a problem?"
"Well... no," Trey shook his head.
"Then why are you so worked up?" Kael asked, raising an eyebrow.
"That's because I..." Trey trailed off, not knowing how to answer.
Yeah, why am I so worked up? Because I figured out they did it? Is that all?
Trey thought for a moment before shaking his head."It's nothing. Anyway... how did your training go?"
"As you might expect, it went well," Kael smirked as the elevator dropped another floor.
"Did you get any Skills?" Trey asked, ignoring the other meaning behind Kael's words.
"I got one," Kael nodded.
"Oh, that's good!" Trey said, surprised. "You've got some great luck. Only one out of a hundred Primers even have a chance to acquire a Skill."
"I can't use it. I know how, but my body refuses," Kael said, a frown appearing on his face as he recalled the humiliation of trying and failing to activate his Skill.
"Your body refused?" Trey raised an eyebrow. "That's impossible. Any Primer should be able to use their Skill. Wait... I think I forgot to mention something."
"Tell me," Kael said.
"Is your Energy Reserve still at zero?" Trey asked.
Kael nodded, though he didn't bother showing his Status Band this time.
"Oh, then that makes sense. You're not going to be able to use your Skill if your Energy Reserve is zero," Trey said.
"Then what should I do to increase it?" Kael asked.
"You'll need an Energium Shard. It's not cheap, but it's also not expensive. Anyone with Skills needs them," Trey explained. The elevator doors opened, and the two of them reached the ground floor.
"Energium Shard? What floor?" Kael asked as they walked out the door.
"Third," Trey nodded toward the third floor. "They sell the Shards there. Do you want to go back?"
"There's no need," Kael waved his hand, causing Trey to sigh in relief.
"Then where are we go—" Trey couldn't finish his words as he saw the lunatic talking to a hologram of a horse in front of him.The horse had something in its mouth, and looking closely, Trey concluded it was an Energium Shard.
The holographic horse nodded at Kael before flying off into the distance.
"You bought a shard from it?" Trey asked.
"Yes, using your card," Kael said, tossing the card back as he walked toward the door leading outside the Level Up Center.
Trey caught his card, stunned, unable to understand how Kael had stolen it.Shaking his head, he hurried after him.
Once they were outside, they didn't immediately walk away—they were waiting for something.
A minute or two later, the holographic horse popped up in front of Kael.
"Thank you for purchasing our Energium Shards! This is your receipt! Please take it!" the cute horse said, voice muffled but still very understandable.
"No need," Kael waved his hand.
"Alright! Here is your Energium Shard! Please enjoy!" the horse said, and right after, a man with a gem embroidery on his right chest came out of the door, holding a box with both hands.
"Here you go!" the man bowed, handing the box to Kael, who took it without saying a word. "Thank you! Please come again!"
The man then left, leaving Trey and Kael standing outside the Level Up Center.
"How many did you buy?" Trey asked as Kael opened the box.
"Ten," Kael answered casually—and before Trey could look inside, he closed the box again.
"Ten?!" Trey's eyes widened. "This item isn't cheap!"
"And also not that expensive—you said so yourself," Kael smirked. "Don't tell me, an Advanced Engineer like you can't afford ten Energium Shards?"
"I can, okay! I can! But that's my money!" Trey said, tears welling up in his eyes.
"Yes, but you are my subordinate. This is what we agreed on," Kael said, raising an eyebrow.
Trey was left speechless. Kael was right. "You tricked me."
"I didn't," Kael said, letting out a sigh. "How about this—I'll teach you something in return. Is that alright?"
Trey thought for a while before nodding. "Alright, but you'll teach me what I want to learn!"
"Deal."
