Chapter 3: Secret Observer
Barbara knew she could collapse any minute. With the sickness she had on before the call along with her anxiousness and panic after the call. She curses many times as she try dialing Nancy's number the tenth time but it was still turned off. She had put the car in the highest speed, not caring that she almost collide with another person's car.
"You are going to get us killed before we get to her" Collins said.
"I don't even know if she's there Collins, I might as well die" Barbara said with her voice low but it was roaring fear.
"Look Barbara, this asshole is messing with you, I don't know how he got your contact but I'm suspecting that phone call was just to get you to be like this" Collins tried to calm her down.
"We will see" Barbara made an halt at the front of Nancy's apartment. She rushed out of the car and goes into the five storey building which had many rooms rented out to people. Barbara had her house spare key just like Nancy had hers. They took an elevator which took them no time in getting to the third line Nancy's room was. Barbara clumsily got the keys out of her pocket. She inserts it into the door keyhole and turned it. The door crept open and she barged into the living room along with Collins with their guns both held out. They saw how scattered Nancy's home was and assumed it to be the work of the serial killer.
Barbara sniffs back the tears that was threatening to fall. She couldn't help but picture Nancy in the room, with a stab hole, rotting for her to witness. They took slow steps and Barbara recognized Nancy's favorite lingerie on the ground. They could hear the sound of shower from the room and distance laughter. Barbara stopped right behind the corner of the bedroom with Collins beside her. They looked at each other skeptically as they both wonder what is actually wrong inside. Barbara took a deep heave before barging into the room with her gun pointed forward. They saw no one in the bedroom but it was obvious there were people in the bathroom.
Collins was trying to picture what the next scenario would be if they barge into the bathroom. He thought the it will be ugly to witness Nancy making out with a man in the bathroom. Barbara on the other hand also pictured the same but then she rushed forth to the bathroom door and pushed it open.
Nancy gasped and she quickly get a towel to wrap around her body not caring about the other party naked with her in the bathroom.
"Oh goodness Barb, what do fuck are you doing in here" Nancy said looking puzzled at Barbara who still held her gun pointed at them. Collins had known better than to go in when he heard Nancy's voice. He goes out of the bedroom and goes to sit on the sofa in the living room.
"Who the fuck is he Nancy" Barbara said as she walks closer to them.
"Calm down ma'am, I'm __" the man tried to talk but was shut off by Nancy.
"Do I tell you about everybody I fuck now huh?, come on Barb, he got no clothes on, get out" Nancy said while standing in front of the man, creating a cover up for him.
"Tell me who he is now or we are talking about it in my office" Barb said while the gun was pointed straight at the man's face. He had his hands raised up as he was already regreting sleeping over at the random girl he met at a nightclub's place.
"What the__" Nancy said with her face flared up. She was upset at how Barbara was acting up.
"We only had a one night stand, nothing attached, please if you could just let me off now, I will never come near her again, please" The man pleaded.
"You brought a stranger into your home" Barbara said wild eyed.
"Yeah so what, you used to do that" Nancy said.
"That was before everybody knew there was a fucking psycho playing around with people" Barbara half yelled.
"I'm not a serial killer" The man said and Barbara turned her gaze to him.
"Shut up" Barbara said to him.
"You don't speak to him like that" Nancy half yelled too.
"Hey, come out" Barbara said and the man didn't hesitate before passing by Nancy and walking out even though he was stack naked. Barbara walked behind him with her gun pointed to him. Nancy scoffs and trailed behind them.
"Get your clothes on" Barbara said and the man hurriedly picks up his pieces of clothes one after the other on the floor. Barbara had seen many men nude so she wasn't a bit flustered.
"You are seriously not going to watch him through the process, would you?" Nancy said with her arms crossed, wondering where Barbara's madness was coming from.
"Oh God" Nancy said when she saw Barbara kept still. Just then, Collins came into the room.
"Hi Nancy" Collins said as he gazed at her face, not wanting to look at her body which was only covered with the towel.
"Oh you are here with her, what do the fuck is going on, would you like to tell me Collins?" Nancy looked questioningly at Collins.
"Oh well, we would like to bring him into custody, to ask few questions"
"You are in on this too, oh great" Nancy said.
"Get some clothes on Nancy, you are going along with us"
"Oh yes I am, get out Collins, you wouldn't want to stare at me dress up like Miss Denkins here who doesn't know how to excuse a naked man" Nancy snapped and Collins quickly get out of the room. Barbara cuffed the man and take him outside, handing him over to Collins.
"I don't know what this is really about but I would like to make a call to my lawyer" the man said.
"Take him to the car, we will be down in a sec" Barbara said and goes back into Nancy's room. Nancy was picking out clothes from her closet when Barbara walks in. She looked up and a frown crept in her brows.
"I don't know what you on about but__" Nancy was about to query her when Barbara hugs her.
"Thank God you are okay" Barbara said as she held on tight to Nancy.
"What's going on" Nancy said and dissembled from the hug, her frown has faded into a worried look.
"I got a call" Barbara said.
"From who" Nancy asked.
"I don't know, he said__he said your name and I think he's the fucking psycho killing people around" Barbara said with gritted teeth.
"Oh God Barb, you should have explained, I'm sorry" Nancy said with an apologetic look on. She now understands why Barbara was acting up.
"Who is that man Nancy" Barbara asked.
"He said his name was Sam, I don't know him, we only met at a nightclub last night but he as hell doesn't look like a psychopathic killer to me nor does he act like one" Nancy said.
"Oh God Nancy, you can't bring a man randomly in your home, it's dangerous now and don't ever trust any one to look innocent, have seen a case of a little girl with murder instincts, I'm just trying to make sure you are safe" Barbara said, recalling the sometimes unbelievable cases they deal with.
"I won't repeat that" Nancy said and Barbara nods.
"You will stay with me for now, I can't allow you to be here alone" Barbara said while she pets Nancy's hair. Nancy could never grow in front of her, she still always thought of her as her little baby sister.
"That means I will have to go to work with you everyday huh?" Nancy said with her brows crept up.
"Look Nancy, I need to know you are safe every time okay and my house is much safer, I have things that will protect you and I will protect you whenever I come back from work" Barbara explained.
"I won't be going to work too?" Nancy said with her brows knotting back in a frown.
"You can't, at least for now, I will make a call to Miss Leila on your behalf" Barbara said and continues "Nancy please, just for a while" Barbara said pleadingly. Nancy nods after a minute.
"Okay then, get dressed" Barbara said and goes out of the room.
Collins on the other hand had collected Sam's ID. He inspected it after cuffing Sam's hands. Collins looks out from the windshield space which was opened. He saw rows of cars parked at the parking space for the apartment.
Unknowningly to him, a man in his late twenties, white skinned that almost make him look pale with messy brown hair and mustache sat in the driver's seat of one of the cars. Since his car glasses was tinted black, nobody could notice him. He watches Collins intently as he had the urge to murder him right on the spot. His gaze turned towards the door of the apartment hoping his new target would come out of it soon. Just then, Barbara and Nancy came out. A smile crept to his lips as he fantasizes of how good it would feel to have Barbara intimidated by him.
