Chapter 73: Custodian Meets The World
I adjusted my cloak, feeling the weight of the new responsibility I had taken on.
"Alright,y" I said with a firm nod, my voice steady. "Let's get moving, we need to leave this place and find somewhere safe for you to rest and recover."
As we began to make their way out of the crumbling ruins, I felt the bond pulsating faintly within me, a constant reminder of the pact I had made.
The ancient, desolate halls of the castle seemed to watch us depart, as if aware that their last inhabitant was finally leaving after centuries of solitude.
The world outside the ruins was stark and unyielding. Shadows cast long, dark shapes across the barren landscape.
As we walked, Elora's gaze took in her surroundings with a sense of awe and melancholy. Everything had changed.
The land she once knew was gone, replaced by a strange, unfamiliar world.
We paused by a cliff, overlooking the horizon. I glanced at her, noticing the sadness in her expression.
"This world…it's different now, isn't it?"
She nodded, her voice filled with a quiet sorrow. "Everything I knew is gone. My people…my family…the land we protected it's all vanished, lost to time."
Her voice faltered, and she looked down, the pain evident in her eyes.
I hesitated trying as much as possible to be sensitive, unsure of how to comfort her. I had never been one for words, especially in moments of raw emotion.
But seeing her pain struck a chord within him. "I know I can't bring back what was lost," I began, my voice soft. "But I can help you find a new purpose. Together, we can make sure that your people's memory lives on."
Elora looked up at me, a glimmer of hope sparking in her gaze. "Do you truly believe that?"
I nodded. "Yes. And I believe that with your knowledge and my abilities, we can protect others from suffering the same fate, from whatever attacked your people... I may not fully understand your pain, but I know what it means to lose someone you love." My voice wavered slightly, memories of my own family surfacing.
For a moment, there was a silence between us, a shared understanding that needed no words.
As we continued on our journey, my mind drifted to the challenges ahead.
My quest for answers about my family, my need to protect his siblings, and now, this new mission to help Elora recover her strength all of it weighed heavily on me.
The road would not be easy. But with each step, I felt my resolve harden.
Elora, despite her weakened state, seemed to sense my inner turmoil. "You carry a heavy burden," she observed quietly. "Perhaps heavier than you realize."
I glanced at her, a faint smile on my lips. "I think you know something about burdens, too."
A faint chuckle escaped her lips, and for the first time since we met, I saw a glimmer of genuine warmth in her eyes.
"Perhaps I do," she admitted. "But we both know that there is strength in carrying them."
Our conversation continued in companionable silence, each of us gaining strength from the other's presence.
As dusk settled, I set up a small campfire, gathering some sparse branches and stones to shield them from the cold night winds.
We shared a quiet meal, and under the blanket of stars, I finally allowed himself a moment to rest, feeling the peace that came from shared purpose.
The journey ahead was uncertain, but I knew I was no longer alone.
And as I looked across the fire at Elora, her eyes glowing faintly in the dim light, I instantly understood that we had both found something invaluable in each other a connection that binded us.
Elora stood slowly, her body still frail but stronger than before.
I observed her carefully, wondering if she truly could be trusted.
But for now, I was satisfied. The contract ensured that I had enough control to keep her in check if needed.
"Alright," I said, feeling the weight of the situation settle in. "Let's sleep now ."
Together, we left the ruins of, the past now behind us and the future uncertain.
In the morning I saw Elora condition is very bad. She was out on the world after thousand of years.
She was already injured and the current Anti-arcane affinity caused her too feel ill very much.
I wasted no time. He needed to ensure her recovery started as soon as possible.
Her injuries were far too severe to leave untreated, and though she could heal naturally, the process would take centuries. I couldn't afford to wait that long.
So, I made my way to a well-known healing center located in the city of Cindralock, one specializing in Arcane treatment.
"We'll get you patched up here," I said, glancing at Elora as we approached the healing center.
She walked slowly beside me, her ethereal presence catching the attention of passersbys.
Her weak state was apparent, but her aura of ancient power still lingered.
People gave us curious looks, but I didn't care.
Inside, the healers were stunned by her condition. They could tell right away that Elora was no ordinary person, given that she used Anti-arcane energy instead of Arcane energy.
After explaining the situation and what kind of care she needed, the healers set to work.
I stayed by her side as they began the slow process of stabilizing her energy veins, using advanced techniques and potions to prevent further deterioration.
After a few hours, the Healers managed to provide some temporary relief, but the prognosis remained the same: it would take time and more resources for her full recovery.
After coming Back home, I introduced Elora to my siblings, Percy and Jackson.
The two children were sitting at the dinner table when I entered with Elora.
Their eyes widened at the sight of her, a mysterious woman they had never seen before.
"This is Elora," I said, placing a hand on her shoulder.
"She'll be staying with us for a while. She's very important and has been through a lot, so be respectful, alright?"
Percy and Jackson nodded, though their curiosity was clear. They had a million questions, but they held them back for now.
