Chapter 277: Kraken (2)
The kraken released the ship after it was assaulted with the lightning weapons again. The wood mage and a few other tried to repair the damage to the vessel as quick as they could, but things didn't look the good. The ship was no longer being rolled over but there were many cracks in the hull, and they were taking on water. It didn't look like it would be able to take too much more abuse.
Everyone tried to steady themselves as the ship came under attack again, but this time when they looked around, they couldn't find any tentacle to attack. They couldn't find anything to attack. The ship began to lean to the side, and they were even starting to cut through the water.
When the ship tilted to almost a forty-five-degree angle, many players had made their way to the edge to see what was going on. Once they looked into the sea, it became clear.
The kraken had created a whirlpool with it at the center. The players ship was caught in it, but without sail and having a damaged hull, there was no way they were going to get out. They began to circle the giant beast that was pulling everything towards itself.
Closer to the center of the whirlpool was the pirate ship that was once control by Captain Uno. As that ship s was sucked further down into the whirlpool, several tentacles emerged form the water and slashed into it. The tentacles acted like knives and clubs, turning the ship into nothing more than pieces of scraps.
The tentacles then began to pick up those pieces of scarp, with a flick of its tentacles, those pieces were hurled towards the players ships while they circle deeper into the whirlpool.
The ship may have lost both its sails, but its rudder still remained intact. The whirl pool was causing them to move at a decent speed, so Super pushed the sailor out of the way and took the wheel of the ship for himself. He began to crank on the wheel and spin it as fast as he could while trying to avoid the large chunks of scraps that were flying towards the players.
A few barriers were raised to try and deflect the pieces that super wasn't able to avoid. So far, Super and the others had managed to keep the ship intact.
The ranged players turned their spell casting devices, bows and crossbows toward the head of the squid like creature that was protruding from the center of the whirlpool.
Lucan had drunk several mana potions and was pouring his magic into a phantom he created. The phantom was then thrown into the water. Since the phantom was only asn illusion, it wasn't swept up in the spiraling current. Instead, the phantom made its way straight towards the kraken.
*Boom*
The phantom detonated in the face of the creature. It took away half a percent of the kraken's health, but it had taken far to long to make the phantom bomber. He doubted he would be given enough time to make another. And in the end, the bomber didn't disrupt the krakens attack pattern. The pieces of scrap debris still kept flying towards the ship that was slowly getting sucked further and further into the whirlpool.
The battler went on for several minute without any great changes. The players kept attacking the kraken from afar, barely doing any damage. A few players were keeping their eyes on the large storm cloud overhead, but it showed no signs of discharging lighting.
The kraken kept throwing things towards they players, trying to destroy their ship while they were slowly sinking further and further into the massive whirlpool. Thankful Super was control the rutter. He was avoiding most of the objects and he made sure that they were descending towards the center of the whirlpool as slowly as possible.
It had been almost ten minutes and the clouds still showed no signs of discharging lightning.
The sailors who had mostly hidden below deck showed themselves.
"Captain! Captain! We won't let you fight this sea devil alone. We have your back!" Yelled a few sailors as the struggled to climb to the main deck.
Super put all his strength into controlling the wheel of the ship as the strong current tried to fight back against the rudder. "Get out of here. You lot need to stay safe below so you can help use sail out of this mess once we win."
Super could see the sailors give him a cheeky smile as they ignored his orders. A dozen sailors brought up six half full barrels. It didn't take Super longer than a moment to understand what they were thinking. He didn't try to stop them.
The sailors crawled towards the edge of the ship, and one by one threw the barrels into the water.
Since the barrels were half filled and still sealed, they were able to float.
"Aim for the barrels when that bastard picks them up!" Super yelled. "Use fire or if you have it."
An elemental mage saw what was happening and understood what he needed to do. He began his chant as the barrels in the water swirled down closer towards the kraken.
When the barrels started to near the creature, it used its tentacles to pick several of them up.
The mage finished his chant and unleashed hi most potent spell that could only be used once a week.
Fire began to fill the sky as fireballs started to fall like shooting stars. Mist and steam exploded from the ocean water and fire met. The attack wasn't able to precisely aimed, but when over fifty fireballs fell towards a single location, they were bound to eventually hit their target.
*Boom* *Boom* *Boom*
Once the first barrel of black powder exploded, it triggered the other that were near by in a chain reaction. Several explosion sounded out as the explosions shook the beast that was holding the barrel with its tentacles.
"RRAAAHHHHHHH!!!"
The kraken cried as it thrashed around. But this time the players in the whirlpool were too close. No mater how good Super's steering was, he wasn't capable of avoid all the blows
*Crack* *Slam* *Rip*
The tentacles pulverized the ship. It broke into several parts and the vessel as no more. Now the players and sailors hung onto the broken chunks of the ships as it was sucked deeper into the whirlpool.
The deeper the chunks went, the closer the players came to kraken who had its head sticking out of the water. Most of its tentacles hung limp at its side while they were covered in severe burns.
The storm kicked into its highest gear as the winds started whipping around even harder. This was a literal 'Do or Die' moment. The players were coming closer towards the beast. Even if they defeated it, they may not live. A few players capable of flight tried to fly out of the whirlpool and gain the high ground, but the winds battered them and pushed them back down. Melee players pulled out their weapons and prepared themselves to charge forward. The ranged attacked began firing right away, they held their aim towards the massive eyes on the side of the krakens head. And the casters began their chants.
Lucan himself was chanting he released a beam of soul fire. He knew that he wouldn't be able to affect the creature with the slowing property but if he could hold onto the beam long enough he would be able to throw a good bomb. Who knows, maybe if he got lucky he would be able to throw it at a vulnerable location.
The players who were closest to the beast, started to dive forward. Their weapons plunged into the exposed head of the creature. They aim at the eyes, but the kraken didn't stay still and let them attack as they pleased. Most of the creature tentacles were badly damaged, but its mouth like beak was as sharp and fierce as ever. One by one, players were snapped in half after they attacked with their full might.
The caster released their spells and an earth mage was lucky enough to send rock spike directly into the one of the creatures eyes.
"RRAAHHHH!!!!!"
Its beak opened wide while it screamed in pain. The remain players didn't miss the wide open target. Lucan joined in to as he threw the soul fire bomb directly into the creatures mouth.
*Boom* *Boom* *Boom*
Explosions sounded out as the kraken wailed before its mouth blew apart. The beast turned gray and then disappeared. The problem was that the players were still at the very bottom of the whirlpool. When the kraken stopped controlling the water, it all rushed in. The swirl currents pulled the surviving players deep under water.
