Chapter 4: a fire
Both stared at each other for a few seconds.
Ben was not going to back down on his plans, even with the interference of this annoying girl.
Ben stopped looking at her and began to look at his other classmates. Stealing was not part of his plans, he was not in his house in the middle of the night.
Here he could be easily caught red-handed. He had to resort to other ways to cause harm.
Destroy!
That was the first thing that came to mind, either school property or that of his classmates. He had to do it in a way that he would not be caught red-handed and even after an investigation.
Since Becca seemed interested in his actions, it was obvious that he could not destroy any of his classmates' property without being discovered by her and being accused by her mother, who, in addition to being the vice principal, was the behavior coordinator and could easily get him expelled.
What was left for him was to destroy school property.
A fire! That was the first thing that came to mind.
Ben got excited imagining how many evil points he would gain from a fire. He really didn't care about destroying school property, only that an innocent person could get hurt.
With that idea in mind, Ben began to plan which place was the best to start a fire. Obviously, the first option would be the library, for obvious reasons starting a fire in that place was going to be very easy, but many students used the place daily, besides the possibilities of being discovered, there was also the possibility of hurting and even killing someone innocent in the process.
Ben imagined that he would get a lot of evil points for that, but he quickly shook his head as if trying to get rid of those thoughts.
The classrooms were not a good option, as there was always someone there. Even when it was break time, many students stayed in their own classroom and had snacks while talking with friends.
The hallways, the gym, the field, the cafeteria, and the teachers' lounge were the same with many students and witnesses to function.
Only two places were left that he could think of and might work.
The infirmary and the principal's office.
The infirmary was rarely visited and normally only had the school nurse on duty, who often went out for a break.
Ironically, the other best place to start a fire was the principal's office. No student wanted to go to that place, and since the principal could not be there all day, he would just have to wait for him to leave.
When the bell rang for recess, Ben left the classroom with a clear purpose. He ignored the students passing by around him and headed to investigate.
Halfway there, he realized that someone was following him.
It was Becca!
Ben increased his speed and tried to lose her among the crowd of students. When he looked around and couldn't see her anymore, he continued towards the infirmary.
To his great luck, the infirmary had three patients in bed and the nurse busy treating them.
It seemed that the school bullies had not been slacking off.
Shit!
Ben closed the door and headed towards the principal's office. Like the other students, he didn't want to go to that place if it wasn't strictly necessary.
Ben even noticed on the way that the principal was in the teachers' lounge.
Thinking about the evil points, Ben gritted his teeth and entered the principal's office, which surprisingly had no security.
He was already prepared to break a window. He was going to burn the place, a broken window was not his concern.
Upon entering the office, he discovered that the place was full of books, which made his plan easier.
He searched the office for a lighter or at least some matches, but found nothing.
How stupid of him to try to start a fire without a lighter!
"What are you doing?!"
Ben's body froze and a chill ran through his body as he realized he had been caught.
His heart was racing a thousand miles an hour and sweat drenched his back.
Turning around stiffly, he found Becca staring at him with her arms crossed and a cold expression.
"Are you trying to steal or something else?" Her tone was cold and condescending.
"I-I'm not what it seems." Ben stammered, his body shaking with panic.
"I don't give a damn what you're doing. Entering the principal's office is forbidden for any student without a permit, I can't wait to see what punishment they'll give you." The girl smiled smugly and proceeded to leave to accuse Ben.
"Wait!" Ben panicked, not knowing what to do, and grabbed her arm to prevent her from leaving.
"Let me go!" Becca pulled her arm hard and pushed him. But Ben clung to her as if she were his only hope of getting out of there alive.
They struggled for a few seconds before Becca slapped him hard, leaving the mark of her hand on his face.
That slap was all Ben needed to lose his cool. Without taking a moment to think about it, Ben returned the blow but with a strong punch to the face.
Arghhh!
Becca fell to the floor with a look of disbelief as she held her face with her hands.

"What the hell do you think you're doing? I'll make you pay for this! Not only will you be expelled, I'll make sure to send you to jail and ruin your life." Becca screamed hysterically.
Becca's threats were taken very seriously by Ben. Not only was her mother the vice principal of the school, but she was also an intermediate level mage.
The word of an intermediate level mage against that of a normie. He didn't have to go to trial to know what the sentence would be.
"Oh, really?" Ben replied with a twisted expression. "Well, I'll make sure you don't make it to the police."
Ben lunged at her and put his hands around her neck. But Becca writhed, scratching his face and getting him off her.
Ben didn't let her get up and, with his teeth clenched in pain, he kicked her in the stomach, knocking all the air out of her.

The reward in evil points only made Ben believe that what he was doing was right, and he grabbed Becca with an arm lock around her neck.
She began to writhe and scratch his arm as she tried to get him off her. But Ben tightened his arm more and more, cutting off Becca's breath.
In a last desperate attempt, Becca stretched her arms, trying to find something that would help her get Ben off her.
One of her arms grabbed something and pulled it all out so that a moment later the alarm would sound.
Riinnng! Rinnnggg!
A loud and shrill sound was heard throughout the school at the same time as the fire sprinklers activated and drenched everyone in the school.
Becca had set off the fire alarm!!
